Here's something I wrote up real quick like, not at all happy with it, but meh. It deals with the whole 'Kyuubi-less!Naruto' view point I wanted to try out.
You'll notice I took the route were the 4th sealed the Kyuubi, but into who/what isn't listed. It certainly isn't Naruto, however, as he's being treated as a 'Prince' of a sort. This Naruto, even while 5 years old, still has a lot in common with the old Naruto, at least with certain events.
He's segragated from children and people, and is being trained/tutored when he really should be out playing with kids his own age. This takes a decidely "Sasuke' ish type of approach to personality, but it'll be noticeably different.
As for desiring power, Naruto in this peice of fiction desires a normal life away from the expectations placed on him.
He's a lot more mature, even at the age of five, simply because he isn't given a chance to be anything but. And he hates that, really hates that. Anyway, it's a small snippet, and does nothing other then give a breif view point on how Naruto see's the people and the village therein.
And no, I have no plans for a match up, so don't read into the text as if I'm setting it up for one.

Orange rays of the setting sun filtered across the green canopy of trees, shining their blazen light across the rusty homes and buildings, reflecting off the colored banners and floating confetti of the people below. Those very same people busy with preperations for cheer and jubilation of a deeply solemn event of years past. An event that saw to the deaths of many, many people, including the greatest Nin and Hero the people of Konoha had ever seen, but ultimately saw to the 'death' of the greatest force of nature ever to besiege the people of the Elemental Nations. From the window he could see people walking the streets, see their gorgeous happy smiles, see their carefree looks as they cried and cheered and happily enjoyed the event. They were celebrating...
The death of Kyuubi no Kitsune, five years prior.
Striking a match, the sharp scent of sulphor assualting his nose breifly, he tentatively lit the sole candle placed by his window. The flame took to the wick, it's flickering flame so very weak at first, wavering in the still air like a desperate bird flapping it's wings in hope it would take flight for its first time, before long settling into a strong, powerful single flame that cast it's luminance. Like a silent sentinel, the bathing fire lit the dark, solemn room, casting its shadows.
The young boy watched the flame quietly for a time, admiring the illumination it gave him, before turning his eyes back towards the window and the people below. Back to the celebration, back to the endless parades of children giggling in the warm light of the sun, and the adults lifting a drink to the torments now long past. They were celebrating...
The death of his Father, five years prior.
He had never had a chance to know his parents, his father who died shortly after he was born, nor his mother who quite frankly no one save the Fourth himself knew of. Perhaps she died? It didn't matter. His fate was sealed, he realized bitterly, the day he was born, that very same day his father died to protect the village. He was the child of the Fourth, the most beloved Leader and Hero ever to grace Konoha. He was the only heir to the Umazaki Clan, the Clan of Power Personified, if his brutal tutors on the matter were to be believed. He didn't see it, but then again he was only five, and it certainly wasn't uncommon for 'Clan Traits', or 'Bloodlines' as the average nin would call them, to appear later in life.
He was the 'so-called' Prince of Konoha.
Oh how he hated that name.
"Uzumaki-sama." the stern and authoritative voice of his oldest tutor broke the solemn atmosphere, ripping him from his thoughts. "It's time for your afternoon session with Yuuhi-san on Genjutsu forumlae and application."
Naruto grimaced. Yuuhi Kaji, one of the few Genjutsu masters still alive in Konoha proper after the 'Kyuubi' massacre. 'Or rather.' he sighed, tiredly. 'One of the few who didn't charge off to fend off that bastard fox thinking Genjutsu would even bother the damn Bijuu.' While he didn't hate this man as much as he hated that prick Ebisu, bastard wouldn't even let him play with kids his own age, Yuuhi-san only ever talked about two things.
Genjutsu, which was understandable and expected considering that was his job, and his daughter Kurenai, who he probably knew more about then the girl in question probably knew about herself. "Gomen, Aoba-sensei." he replied simply, exiting his room where he left the candle burning, his own silent greivance to his departed father
