Hey, a Red Riding Hood movie, this could be kind of interest-

"A Gothic imagining of the classic fairy tale in which a young woman is confronted by a werewolf, this time with a teenage love triangle at its center."

...

Fuck. You. Hollywood.

Well, it's not the worst thing that has happened to a classic fairy tale. In watching the trailer, it actually doesn't look half bad. It certainly could have been far worse, and at the very least, you have Gary Oldman playing the hunter.

On the other hand, it is being directed by Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, so take from it what you will.

Speaking of which, has anyone heard anything more with Dreamworks making the Halo film?

I'm blaming Twilight for this one.

I really didn't care too much what Smeyer's influence did to the book industry. Shitty authors follow her trends and write shitty books, good authors ignore the whole mess and keep writing good books. The only reputation an author can screw up is their own.

Movies, though...lot's of people names attached. When an asinine idea like this threatens to taint quality actors like Gary Oldman, it is indeed time to sharpen the pitchforks and light the torches.

He survived that piece of shit Lost in Space.

He can deal with a forgettable crappy werewolf movie.

Gary Oldman as the Wolf and Natalie Portman as Little Red Riding Hood.

Which would've been awesome if this was done in the mid-90s.

Gary Oldman has experience hunting Natalie Portman, if the Professional is any indication.

Eh, the <a href='http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1486185/' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>IMDb</a> page says Amanda Seyfried (who's not that much younger) is playing the female lead. Where are you getting Natalie Portman from?

I was saying, it would have been awesome if those two were the cast and this was made in the 90's.

Exactly.

Actually, there apparently already was a story of Little Red Riding Hood where she seduces the wolf. So...a three way romance between the huntsman, the wolf and the girl is just making her a bit more of a bitch compared to a previous version.

That one (to my understanding) was a feminist story (albeit kinda creepy).

This movie is an odd way of making a Softer and Lighter story* into something Darker and Edgier.

Also, Meyer didn't create this phenomena. The Anita Blake series came about before them and the Vampire Chronicles came even before that. Of course I still blame things like Anita Blake for bringing badly written erotica to my Dragonlance novels.

*Compared to what was in the original stories a LOT of fairy tales are much lighter than their original versions.

You're right, she didn't create this attitude of dumbing down the supernatural and 'tru wuv' towards things that should be eating the heroine's face instead of kissing it. She sure as hell popularized it though. Just take a look at the publisher stats. The Anita Blake series all together has sold about 3 million copies. Twilight series? 100+ million and five movies.

The concept had its niche pre-Smeyer, but it's been leaking into other genres ever since her initial publishing.

That's all besides the point. The topic is Red Riding Hood, and it's likely going to suck and further fuel this damn attitude towards classic fairy tales/supernatural. Even the trailer sinks to trite and unappealing, and that's supposed to showcase the best parts of the movie.

Who here is looking forward to SuckerPunch?

It's like Machete and Alice in Wonderland by American McGee put in a blender. It looks fun.

Re: Red Riding Hood -

When I first heard the vague notion of a RRH movie, my brain turned to <a href='http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/347117/' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>the bestest Red Riding Hood story around</a>.

It was a nice delusion for those few moments.

<a href='http://kotaku.com/#!5782713/red-dawn-remake-pulls-a-homefront-retcons-korean-invasion-of-us' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Red Dawn remake retconned so North Korea is invading the US</a>.

Huh. Did anybody else know they were doing a remake for Red Dawn? This was the first I've actually heard of it.

Considering the recent release of Homefront, a video game about the invasion and occupation of the US by a unified Korea, penned by the writer of the original Red Dawn, no less, this seems oddly fitting. It seems the remake was originally about China invading and occupying the US, but in order to not piss off the Chinese government, the producers are digitally altering the film such that it is really North Korea doing the invasion.

Finally, a remake I'm glad to hear about.

The original Red Dawn, iconic as it is, kinda sucks. It'd have to be pretty bad to be worse than the original.

On the other hand, it's probably gonna be more racist.
