Bleach Ururu and Jinta

Since they both work at Urahara shop they must know something of Soul Society, Rukongai, etc. and they are both obviously able to see (and fight against) spirits and Hollows. So are they effectively humans that had high spiritual sensitivity that Urahara and Tessai somehow picked up on and hired, possibly adopted?

I've been wondering this for a while. I figure they're either spiritually-sensitive humans that Urahara found and adopted, artificial humans created by Urahara or an experiment of Mayuri's that got tossed and ended up in the human world.

I don't think there's enough to say for sure, one way or the other. You could go with the simplest explanation which is probably the first one. Ururu's Genocide Mode could be something Urahara installed or it could be a natural thing for her (perhaps a result of some type of trauma, given the change in personality).

We can only guess at this point.

Jinta's probably a kid for all intents and purposes, there's nothing really terribly off about him. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if the bat he uses is just something Urahara patched together that he can use.

Ururu on the other hand is almost certainly some kind of genetically altered being of some kind. Genocide mode isn't something that develops naturally to say the least, shenanigans be up with that one.

Given Chad's arm, I don't think it's that outlandish to say Genocide Mode is just an extremely weird creation of the evolution of her spiritual power.

I normally assume that the Genocide thing is due to Urahara but I thought that it'd interesting if it was actually due to some type of scarring event in her past. From a story-wise perspective at least.

Urahara is the more likely cause, though it's strange that he'd do something to Ururu but not Jinta. Unless their origins differ more than I thought like if only Ururu was a creation but Jinta was adopted.

That or nobody has managed to push Jinta's buttons yet like a couple have with Ururu.

I was rather fond of the working theory that both were adopted, the actual story behind them being that Jinta found a very weak and starving Ururu who'd been discarded after whatever turned her into that (General culprit being obviously Mayuri) and had been stealing from Urahara's shop to try and take care of her, and the guy just took them in.

Which was either the story used in Hammered Down or Treading Icy Waters, I can't recall which, but it was a rather intriguing way to take it. Actually I think it was Treading Icy Waters, I think Hammered down instead had them being some weird clones of Renji and Rukia that I really didn't get.

Yeah, you're thinking of Treading Icy Waters.

This is the bit from Hammered Down (which was strangely easy to find):
"Speaking of shocks," his lifelong friend looked up sharply, "what did you do to those two golems of yours? I certainly don't remember them looking like that prior to today, and she seemed to take it rather hard."

"Oh, you mean Jinta and Ururu?" He waved a hand. "Well, they've been requiring an infusion to stabilize them for a while now. Wouldn't have done to have two little versions of you and me running around, people would have started jumping to conclusions. I simply borrowed some of Lady Kuchiki's shinigami reiatsu profile to give them the upgrade and facelift. The boy got the most prominent male's reiatsu, and the girl got the lady's. I was thinking that they would come out looking more like her and Byakuya, but that proved only half right. I can only assume Jinta's new look is owing to the influence of her friend Abarai. Ururu seems to have gotten the better deal out of it."

"They look enough alike now to be sisters," Yoruichi supplied. "Right down to those locks of hair hanging between their eyes. Lucky for you she didn't see what they looked like beforehand, or we might have had some explaining to do."

I'd say Ururu is most certainly not human, and perhaps share the exact same origins as Nemu. Given how Jinta treats her with no one batting an eye, this would almost certainly be proof of that sort of heritage.

Well, either that, or proof that Urahara and Tessai should never be left to care for anyone under the age of the majority and without a job.

Jinta is also the one who explains to Ichigo while he's in the pit about how souls close to turning into Hollows will first turn hungry and then lose thirst, which at least implies he must have some scientific knowledge of souls.
