Curious question for the people here on the LH Useless Fact thread:

Other than Yoko Urashima (Haruka's birth mother), were we ever informed of who the other child of Grandmother Hina is?

In other words... <s>who married into the Urashima family Keitaro's mother or father?</s>

Edit: never mind,
from the first page and alansg's links, <a href='http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/276/lhmharukauh8.jpg' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>the scan of Haruka's info</a> from the LH Mugendai book, Kei's father married into the Urashima family.
So his father took his mother's name?
I think the implication is that the Urashima family is quite important, especially given that I once guestimated the area of the land the Inn is on to be about 5 hectares.

That's a fair chunk of land to have in the Tokyo area.

A man taking his wife's name is not uncommon in Japan; it's usually done when the bride's family, as in here, has no sons.

And yeah, the Urashima family have to be obscenely rich. Granny could make a ton more off that building than she does. That she uses the property essentially for her whims is staggering in the amount of money it implies she is worth.

I've been wondering for a while,

we know that the LAND the Inn is on means that it's prime property
we know that someone who takes a round-the-world trip must be loaded

But, as far as finances go, does Keitaro have access to the funds? I'm guessing the only thing he does have access to is money for repairs.

Speaking of which, did we have any arc where "lack of funds" was the theme in the manga? I don't recall anything ATM.

There was an episode about that in the anime, but I'm pretty sure it was just filler.

I doubt Keitarou would be in charge of anything significant before he marries, and especially before Hina dies, which doesn't look like it would be any time soon. She's not actually that old; I think she's only in her sixties during the series. Once he marries, she probably will discuss finances with him to some degree, but his job until Hina dies is pretty much: manage the property, and start a family.

EDIT: Timeline confirms. Hina is sixty-four in 1998. The old bat probably has quite a few years left, even by the time of Kei and Naru's wedding.
