I think Hawk wrote one.

I know Hung Nguyen has a cross with it, but it's worse than his usual stuff. Blargh.

Ehhh... do you mean 'vandreadknights of cydonia'

You are revamping a 600 word story from nearly 2.5 years ago?

Shrugs, Ok.

I wrote a bunch of Vandread stuff a while back. They're still on ff.net.

Eh. One of the reasons why Vandread doesn't get a lot of fanfics is, it's an older series. An older series that doesn't have a huge fan base to begin with.

That being said, looking at FFN, the fandom isn't completely dead. Quite a few have been updated within the year (some fandoms could only wish to have that much activity). Still, there isn't going to be a huge groundswell of support compared to current series like Bleach and the Juggernaut Naruto.

Besides, I believe it should be about quality. Not quantity. FFN isn't exactly a Bastian of either.

I always disliked the abandonment of some of the older series before they got big.

- El Hazard Fanfiction I happened to love.

- Crest/Banner of the Stars, Happy Lesson, Irresponsible Captain Tylor, Macross 7, Tsukikage Ran, and Witchblade I had always hoped for more on.

- Golden Boy always surprised me with its lack of fanfiction, considering its setup, I thought it would lend itself well to it.

- History's Strongest Disiple Kenichi is still relatively new, but still IMHO should have more than it does.

Other Fandoms I actively avoid despite liking their canon material

- Hellsing and Slayers come immediately to mind.

I do too.

But that's just a fact of life. People move on to newer series. Barring a remake that occasionally happens.

Oh, and speaking of big fandoms, just because it's big, doesn't mean it's full of quality fics either.

Look at, xxxHolic. 90% of the fics there, yaoi. Granted, it's not as bad percentage wise as say, Air Gear (which is a smaller fandom BTW), but you'd be hard press to find a straight fic there. Much less, a GOOD straight fic. <_<

[edit]And there are some fandoms where, the canon does a great enough job telling its story that you really don't need to read fanfics on it. For me personally, Ergo Proxy comes to mind.

Well okay. Maybe not the best example since I don't think it's perfect as it stands. But given the limitations imposed on the characters and in the series, it's doubtful anyone could make a good fanfic that would do the series justice.

Ditto for both El Hazard and Vandread. About once every couple of months, I take a peek at their sections to see if anyone I know has updated recently. About the only good thing about having such a small fanbase is that most or all of it's good writers are already on my list.

It seems to me that Kenichi is still building up steam. The section for it is relatively new.
