What (anime) are you watching?

What have you been watching lately? I figured we could recommend or diss any anime/other shows that we've seen recently.

I myself am watching an anime called "Ichigo Mashimaro." The premise of the anime can be broken down into "Cute girls doing cute things in cute ways." For instance, one of the characters is a Brit that moved from her hometown (Cornwall) to Japan around five years ago, and thus has forgotten pretty much all of her English. What makes it amusing is that she tries to get past any ridicule by acting like a foreigner (She has blonde hair and blue eyes), but of course, her English skills are horrible. In actuality, she has a very good knowledge of Japanese, above that of any average Japanese, but she isn't able to speak to avoid looking like a fool. Added to her rather odd last name (Coppola) and her hometown, she's very sensitive about her differences (although at the same time, she is also somewhat proud of being British).

Another anime I've seen recently is "Mahoraba - Heartful Days." I won't go into it, but the anime made me realize that multiple personalities allow for legal polygamous relationships (at least, in a way). Oh, and that masochists are amusing.

I almost never watch anime. I'm deaf, you see, and anime in Italy tend to be mostly dubbed, without subs, so they're completely boring for me - another reason why, when discussing series, I generally disregard anything that's not in the manga as 'filler'.

About the only series I watched lately is Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan, whose title sums it up (literally 'Club-to-death Angel Dokuro-chan'). :D

Kage Kara Mamoru and Magikano are the latest things to have been added to my 'anime I'm trying to keep up with'-list alongside with staples like Prince of Tennis, Bleach, Yakitake Japan, Naruto and whatnot.

Kage Kara Mamoru is about this family of ninjas that have protected a family of complete airhead artisans for 400 years, focusing on the youngest ( male ) ninja who's currently assigned to protect the youngest ( female, of course ) airhead. Bit of fanservice here, bit of stereotypes here and whatnot. Typical Tenchi-wannabe anime.

Still, it does manage to amuse me.

Magikano is another harem-anime, 'bout this Keitaro-like dullard living with his hawt younger sisters, when all of a sudden a witch moves in with them because she needs to make him a man so he can break a curse on her. Which isn't an easy task, as one of the sisters is *really* hung up on her older brother and all three of them are secretly witches to. Things get fucked up even further as the dullard attracts the attention of another sorceress at school, alongside with a young witch-hunter who also falls for him.

Really catching ending-tune, that bastard can quite easily get stuck in your head for hours in a row. :)

-Bleach
-Witch Hunter Robin
-Elfin Lied (seen the first five, need to get around to the rest)
-Eyeshield 21

Was watching Naruto, but just couldn't stomach things after The Valley of the End. Especially this super long stretch of fillers. Bleh.

That's unfortunate, to say the least. I watch anime for the most obvious reasons of course, (giving the characters motion, etc.) but I doubt I'd watch it much either if I couldn't hear it. Painfully dull without the voice actors and music/sound work put into it, I'd imagine. Anyway, I agree that they can't really be used for canonal information much. (God, is it just me or do I sound like an elitist bastard when I say/write that?) However, there are some special cases, Evangelion being one (as it came before the manga) and Mai-HiME being another (the anime being completely different then the manga, and better in my opinion).

Regarding Dokuro-chan, I was rather... surprised by that anime's abrupt gore-filled moments.

Bah! Of course I'm watching Fate/stay night. I'm just not watching at the moment. Actually, it's been a while for me, in a way, since I've seen the last episode (07). Because, since then, I've already gone through well over 40 episodes of different anime. Mahoraba - Heartful Days, Ichigo Mashimaro, Canvas and Canvas 2, Mai Otome and many others.

Currently, I'm still watching Canvas 2, and I just finished downloading a few episodes of Eureka 7, so I'll have to see how that is. (Yes, I watch a lot of anime, sue me!)

That I'm watching recently, not really much, that I'm keeping -track off- (and unfortunately, isn't really released that regularly): Fate/Stay Night, Beet Vandel Buster, Gakuen Alice, Detective Conan, and...that's it. I'm more of a manga and fanfiction freak, to be honest... >_>;

Edit: Oh, and I've been watching my Sailor Moon DVDs also.

yes manga and fanfic is gooood
still i'd probably watch a lot more if 2 things happened
1: get broadband
2: get round to the people who do have broadband and "borrow" off them a bit more often.
jay (who has been getting his hands on scrapped princess, fumuffo, madlax and escaflowne recently as well)

Fumoffu! Oh, I need to rewatch that again! The episode with the rugby team is so frickin' hillarious that it defies description.

Yah, I personally nearly busted my gut with that one scene where Sasuke springs out of the ground (it seems like) in all his camoflouge (sp?) gear and points the rifle at that guy who's harassing Chidori. Oh and does anyone else notice the odd coincidence there, Sasuke - Chidori? I forget if it's Sosuke or Sasuke.

SOUSUKE.

And technically Chidori is her last name. Her name is Kaname, and in the manga they call her that.

Yah it's been a few years since I last watched that so my memories of it are a bit foggy, I just remember bits and pieces such as the above mentioned scene.

I've been watching a ton of Eureka 7. The music in it is pretty good, as well the animation (although it really reminds me of early anime works like Cyborg 009, especially two of the characters in the second season). It also has an Evangelion like mood to it (and by this, I mean it starts out fairly happy/humorous, and then starts slowly growing darker).

Surprises me though, I mean, Mecha isn't new, but Mecha that surf is quite the spin.

Premise: Boy lives with his grandfather, dreaming of going off and adventuring with a group of rebels and the like, and soon after the start the rebels got and find HIM.

Not exactly original by any stretch, but the fairly different spins the anime gives a clichÚd plotline are sometimes quite interesting (the love interest in this case has already adopted three little kids, so she's technically a MILF, or at least to the main hero). Of course, as I said, it starts to grow a much darker mood in later episodes (past the first 13 episodes), it also give some mindfucks at certain points similar to Eva. Nothing really horribly has yet to happen though (like someone getting off-ed), but there have been some really WTF moments, and also "Ooh, DAMN!" moments as well. (I'm currently at episode 26, with there being 50 planned episodes)

If you've got the time, and the harddrive space, check it out, it might be worth your time.

I've been (re)watching Happy Lesson over the last week, hoping to get some inspiration for a stalled HL-fic I've been writing on for a while.

For those of you unfamilliar with the show, it's about an orphaned guy who tried to live on his own, only to have five of his teachers from school move in with him and sort of adopt him as their joint son.

One is a sort of Kasumi-like mellow housekeeper. One is a Tsuruko-like kendo-chick who likes to mess with spirits. One is a cosplay-lolikon chick who looks'n acts *WAY* younger then she really is. One is an Ayanami-like inventor chick who likes to blow shit up and mess around with weird animals. One is a beer-guzzling training freak chick, who likes to wrestle, speak really loud and get her 'son' to go through hell-like training programs.

Add onto this the glasses-wearing class rep chick who has a crush on the main character. The main characters friends/sisters from the orphanage, one who is younger and wants to marry him when she gets older. One is a famous singer who's also a speed-eating champion. Then we have the two stalker-guys who constantly pesters class rep chick and acts out these silly scenes between her and the main character. Then we have Ayanami-chick's old partner in crime, who's also a crazy inventor chick who grows a crush on the main character.

Hjinx ensues.

Animation detail is kinda crappy at times, but otherwise it's a good watch.

I've been watching the new TV series of OMG, it's great and a little closer to the manga in some areas, though still off, and still made Belldandy too fluffy sometimes. I also picked up a box set of Gantz at WAL-Mart this week, and have just watched the first two eps. of that, along with Withch Hunter Robin, and The Big O.

Heh, I love Happy Lesson, hilarious show, though I think your description of the first one is a little off, while she is a housekeeper type she's also the main 'momma' and she is also very manipulative, very forceful, and tends to overreact when the main char does something that upsets her.

That's probably an inherent female trait. :) *ducks and heads for cover*

But yeah, unlike Kasumi who mostly acts as Ayanami on happy pills, Mutsumi actually shows her emotions and isn't above using the emotions of others against them instead of just acting as if whatever chaotic event is going on around her isn't anything out of the ordinary and certainly nothing worth getting upset about.

Had myself an anime day today instead of being a good little writer, typing away. Went through the second season of Initial D and the first fifteen episodes of Hajime no Ippo. Both are great shows and even greater mangas, but the animes are more then good enough to justify watching.

Initial D, for those who're unfamiliar with it, is a show about street racers. Mainly about the racing bits, of course, though we also get some bits where some of the characters get entangled in various romantic messes from time to time. Haven't gotten around to watching the fourth season yet, I figured I should rewatch the rest of the show before getting into that as it's been quite a while since I last saw it. The animation is a blend of rather nicely rendered cars and weirdly drawn characters, but the storyline behind it makes up for the seriously weird-looking characters. 'sides, they get better drawn as the show goes on.

Hajime no Ippo is a show about boxing and after rewatching the first fifteen episodes, I've rediscovered my total admiration for my idol, Takamura. He's like me after eight or nine beers, but even more over the top. :) The show has a catchy story which grabs ya by the nuts and ensures your continued interest in it. It's also has the honour of being the fandom which first got me hooked on manga/anime. I had watched an episode or two of various animes before and read a couple of chapters of various mangas, but never really got into it before I got my hands on Hajime no Ippo. The manga is better, but the anime is certainly nothing to sneeze at either. Well worth a watch or two or three or four...

Hmm. Well, recently I have watched the first episode of Bleach, Azumanga Daioh, and Ah! My Goddess TV series, and One Piece (fansubbed) all online. How? YouTube. Great place for someone as poor as me (Though I do intend to one day own the AMG series on DVD. That and for some series like One Piece, avoid butchered Americanized 4Kids version). ^_^

Ugh Hyne I don't even bother watching anime on TV anymore as it's so butchered there's no point anymore, I only buy and download and I only download what I can't buy (like Naruto and the Negima anime). I haven't really been watching much lately as I've been too wrapped up in Shadow Hearts: Covenant and, now that I've gotten it, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, oh and GH, thanks for the warning about the Matador, it made it slightly less painful when he kicked my ass from here to Tokyo because I had been forewarned at least.

I hate 4Kid's with a burning passion.

Actually, I hate censoring with a burning passion, so it simply extends over to 4Kid's for being such a dirty little whore, who ass rapes innocent anime.

Oh, that reminds me, I have Howl's Moving Castle... yet I've not yet watched it... Heh... -_-

BTW, Simmy, how far does the YouTube One Piece go? I've seen the uncensored episodes up to something like 40, but haven't been able to find torrents of it to my liking. (Yes, I blatantly ignore any 4Kid's licensing, because I have utterly no respect for them)

Currently Watching: Noein.

I'm only seen the first episode and part of the second, but it looks... really interesting. I'll give my opinion on it once I've seen more of it.

Well, using this site that convienantly has the episodes listed (it doesn't host the site itself, it just links them to the episode on YouTube. So you don't have to search at the YouTube site directly), it goes up to Episode 256.

Online Anime Episodes (Os2 Anime)(Keiichi Anime Forever)

Likes to One Piece Videos

The only thing about using the above site is that it uses a popup (not an ad. But, well, an extra window in order for you to watch the video), but I had no problem with it. In fact, I thought it was pretty convienant the way they set it up.

Mind you, its not a complete set (so for AMG TV series, it only goes up to episode 10. It might be more at YouTube but they haven't linked it yet), and they don't list all the series there. BUT, still, for many anime series that I would have never been able to watch before, well, it's all right there! ^_^

And I'm against censorship of anime in general too. The thing about 4Kids though is, they take it the extra mile and censor the shit out of anything they touch (I watch things on say, Adult Swim. While they will still censor some stuff, excessive blood for example, they at least try to keep the meaning in the scenes in tact)! Heck, 4Kids even goes the extra mile and even CHANGES the race of one character on the other series that they have (Shaman King) from Chinese...to British. -_- So, a man wearing Chinese clothing, is somehow now talking with a British accent. WTF is wrong with them?!
