What (anime) are you watching?

Thanks for the links. ^_^ I'll actually be able to watch it un-butchered.

Yeah, 4Kid's is really bad for anime. They go for the younger audience, and basically screw over any other viewers. I have absolutely no respect for Al Kahn, as not only is he a complete idiot, but he's not even a very good businessman either. Thankfully, everyone's displeasure with 4Kid's is finally showing, as the profit for it is down by 60%. ^_^ Hopefully, that is a sign of the beginning of the end for 4Kids.

Wow I'm surprised he wasn't booed straight off stage with a 'performance' like that. He just made a LOT of enemies right there, they should'a lynched'em.

Yeah, but I'm feeling very satisfied now that sales are really down (enough that 4Kid's apparently had to sell their Pokemon share). Not only that, but Al Kahn is now "Extraordinarily disappointed & furious at the results of this year.ö  Idiot.

I've been watching three different anime that have really caught my attention.

The first is called "Utawarerumono," and is based off an H-game. One of the things that keeps me interested in this anime is the main character's personality. Normally, the main hero is very... hotheaded, and/or somewhat apathetic and anti-social (angsty, emo, or whatever you wanna call it), Hakuoro is... stoic. He is the perfect image of a reasonable, responsible adult. Granted, he gets his bouts of angst with him being afflicted with amnesia, but those don't really last long. Other then that, the whole... epic feel I get from the opening animation interests me, as it makes the world seem vast. It helps that the world is occupied by wolf/dog/cat-people, and apparently some bird-people too. Neko-mimi and all that. ^_^ Anyway, this is most certainly one I'm itching to watch more of, it's only a pity that the fansub seems to be quite slow with this one (I checked after I watched the third subbed episode and noticed that the fourth was already out in RAW. Slow, considering the third had just been translated).

The second is called "Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu." Right off the bat, this anime is original by actually playing the episodes out of order! The first episode is probably somewhere in the middle of the series, and the second is actually the first episode of the anime. The third is the second episode, the fourth is the seventh, and apparently the fifth is going to be the third. Nevertheless, while it does get somewhat confusing to watch, the pure hilarity and amusement keep this from giving you a headache. The quality of the animation is fricking AMAZING. Seriously, the detail that goes into some of these scenes is awe-inspiring. To make an example, during the first (aired) episode they had a short (maybe... five second) scene of one of the girl's panties. Thing is, the first episode was a sort of 'home movie' style of humor, so the girl actually knew the camera was there. So, while it only gives you less then a second to see it, she blushes before jumping over the camera.

However, there is a certain mood that is required to watch it. The first time looking at it, I almost dropped it because the first episode's style of humor somewhat annoyed me at the time. However, after coming back and viewing it later when I was in a more relaxed mood, the humor had me laughing out loud throughout the episode. Needless to say, IÆm with the countless others when I say this anime wins!

The third is one called "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni." I find the mood of it to be very similar to Elfen Lied, in the way that you know things are going to get bloody. The general feel of it is very lighthearted, and it hasn't shown much gore (even at the beginning, which features people being pasted into the floor with a bat), you get a huge amount of paranoia from just a few darkened scenes throughout the WAFFness. Coupled with it going to be 26 episodes long, I'm definitely looking forward to watching more of this.

It's been a while since this thread has been used. ^_^

Anywho.. As F1 said in another thread, it appears to be Trap! season.

Happiness! and Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru are two anime i'm watching and both are pretty good imo.

Happiness! appears to be Harem in nature from what i've seen from the intro and first episode. Watarase Jun is the Trap! in this series. I find it both a bit creepy and intruging that he looks, acts, dresses and sounds 100% girl. I would adamantly refuse to believe he was a guy if not for evidence saying otherwise. If you can get past the one Trap!(if that sorta thing bothers you. :p ), it is pretty decent from what i've seen. ^_^

Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru seems to be a bit like Ai mai mi Strawberry Egg only this time the Trap! is a student instead of a teacher. I'm looking forward to how this one shapes up. :)

Moving away from the subject of traps. Another anime, Sumomo-mo Momo-mo seems to be a series that runs off a mixture of loli, crack and old kung-fu movies. All-in-all, I LOVE it. I was laughing through most of the episode. The male lead actually acts like the anti-thesis to most heros of anime. (most heros = self-sacrificing, straight-forward, strong-willed). Despite, his "draw-bracks" , he's actually a pretty nice guy. He kinda seems "average" personality-wise, though he does know how "handle" certain situations if the need arises. :snigger:

Just a few days ago, Eagle Ceres and Lord Raa introduced me to Black Lagoon. It was an awesome series. It had lots of blood, explosions and girls with guns(my personal favorite :snigger: ). It's about an average salary-man suddenly thrust into a shady world of mercenary work. Check it out if your looking for an anime with action and guns. :yay:

Also, after being a fan of F/SN for a while; I decided to finally get around to watching Tsukihime. In my opinion, it kinda fell flat. Although the beginning left me saying "WTF?", the story had some interesting twists. The ending really didn't even pull at my heart-strings as F/SN did. The series seemed far too rushed, it would have likey been much better with more episodes. As it is, it was mildly disappointing. The shortness of the series really didn't allow me to "connect" with the characters. <_<

This is my take on these anime. Watch them yourself if you want a better idea of what they are like. Don't let what I say about the series make you avoid it, try it before you knock it.

Well, I've been watching a few different things, as I've used this weekend to pick up some odds and ends to fill in some small holes in my collection that I've not seen before but have heard about.

I've known about the below special for a while, and had been hoping Bandai would release it, as I have everything else they released when they first came out. I finally gave up and retrieved a copy through other means.

'Lost Chapter of the Stars - Birth (special)' by Bandai
- http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encycloped...nime.php?id=787

The below I watched a couple months ago, but it was regrettibly in I think Italian, I picked up a second, different copy with English subtitling. Made more sense.

'Hellsing Ultimate' by Geneon
- http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encycloped...ime.php?id=5114

I originally watched the below years ago when I bought the set VHS Subtitled. However, upon attempting to watch it recently, discovered my VHS tapes had degraded, so decided to get another copy. I actually have a DVD box set ordered from Rightstuf, but they are out of stock, so I started getting them temporarily by other means. I only have the first episode so far completely DL'ed, the rest is in the pipeline.

'Vision of Escaflowne' by Sunrise-Bandai
- http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encycloped...nime.php?id=240

Like the first one in this post, I have the entire saga in store bought box sets except the below special, I gave up on a release in my area and finally picked this up by other means. Not bad.

'You're Under Arrest No Mercy (OAV)' by Studio DEEN
- http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encycloped...ime.php?id=2475

In the pipeline now, but not finished DL'ing, I have another one that never was released in the US. I'm hoping it might give me the push I need to finally watch the last few episodes of Stars. I already had the Ami Special.

'Sailor Moon SuperS (special) ' by Toei Animation
- http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encycloped...ime.php?id=3490

Now, if only I could find somewhere a copy of "Onegai/Please Teacher My December", and "Onegai Twins Friends".

Re: Tsukihime... yeah, the anime pretty much sucks. None of the relevant plot details get a sufficient amount of elaboration to keep the interest of anyone who hasn't played the game, Shiki (the protagonist) is way more irritatingly emo - as compared to his game self, who was much more upbeat about things - and several of the most (IMO) important plot issues were never even touched upon.

At least with the F/SN anime, they were able to elaborate on enough to keep the overall flavor true to the series proper.

Let's see...

Bleach anime. Given that I litterally caught up with reading ALL of the current Bleach manga chapters, I decided to check out the Bleach anime series on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. Given that it is currently following the manga fairly closely (have not hit the fillers yet), pretty good. Other than the 'average' dubbing (in otherwords, sucks, but managable), I'd still be watching it next week.

Trinity Blood (which is on before Bleach). Decent action series about Vampires and 'Terrans' (i.e. humans) duking it out with each other. Politics and religion rolled into one. Though I'm not sure about the protrayal of the church and all... I mean, I by no means a supporter of Catholicism or anything, but to make the Pope some whack emo kid? <_<

Black Lagoon. Introduced to me by F1 and Eagle Ceres, what can I say that hasn't already been said? This series rocks!

Fate/Stay Night. FINALLY watched a few episodes to see what the fuss is all about. And my conclusion? Pretty damn good. I can now... um, understand what everyone is talking about now. Not necessarily jump into the convo, but at least I know the background on what they are discussing at least.

Utawarerumono. Mosh seems to like this series, so I decided to check it out. Again, another pretty good series. Though I'm not completely clear what is going on at the moment, still, story is moving along at a fairly decent and understandable manner. Of course, wolf firls, bird girls, and other furries not withstanding. :snigger:

Eureka 7. Actually, I for the most part, stopped watching it. Not because I think it sucks, but... 1 am is now a little TOO late for me. However, what I did watch, still not sure if I really like it or not. It is trying to be, I guess, all social and philosophical in its thinking but, it's all falling flat on me. Nevermind the fact that I find Eureka/Renton lame.

In the future, I hope to buy the Azumanga Diaoh DVDs, ZOE, Ghost in the Shell movies, and maybe Last Exile DVDs (right now, all a little too rich with my pathetic paycheck. The last one, I already seen it but, well, loved the series so much, why not buy it?). With the exception of the ZOE series (haven't heard anything about it. Possitive or negative besides the game), a few of the 'must' watch in terms of anime. Which, in my case, there are a TON of cases like that.

Just finished Strawberry Panic about a week ago. Its like watching marimite with 200% more lesbian sex. interesting show, but i still like marimite more.

Was watching AMG season 2, but some bittorrent problems have denied me my goddess love for the lst few weeks.

Ordered some dvd's from right stuff, waiting for them to ship. Picked up the last volume of J2: the counterattack of Siberia Yagui, which was a surprisingly good series. I like it alot more than I liked the first series. anamorphic anime rules, yo.

also picked up the entirety of Last Exile. That should be in in the next few days.

Huh, I've been watching that, and the individual torrents have been fine up through 20 where I get them from. If they keep to the pattern, 21 should be out soon.

What!? This thread died long ago, you grave robbers!

Hmm, well... I've been watching several of the ones already mentioned, "Black Lagoon" (Yay for the second season!), "Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru" and "Happiness!". "Utawarerumono", "Fate/stay night", "Tsukihime", "Hellsing Ultimate" and "Eureka 7" I've already seen, in various degrees of time involved since I've last watched them (Tsukihime, Hellsing and Eureka being quite some time ago).

I've also been watching two other animes not already mentioned...

Busou Renkin and the Kanon Remake.

Busou Renkin is interesting. It's centered around alchemy, although not in the same way as FMA. It's got my attention in the first episode, the main character is very upbeat (and so is his sister), and rarely stays depressed for long, but he's not idiotically so as many of his anime-counterparts are. The battles are interesting in the way the alchemy works, (although it hardly seems very alchemy-ish) apparently your combat abilities can be activated through usage of a specific metal, and you get a unique weapon (Scar-tan's one is unusual, but does draw the eye).

The Kanon remakes looks to be shaping up rather well, the animation is top-notch, as expected from Kyoto Animation. Not much to say besides that I hope it'll get the same attention as Haruhi did.

Hi all!!!!

I'm new to this forum and am very happy to be here. :D

I always love to reply to questions like this one. Love sharing the anime I've been watching with others. :)

Recently, I've been watching a whole lot of anime. Too much even because I haven't been writing. :p

So here's what I've been watching recently or just recently finished watching:

Witch Hunter Robin, Initial D, and Vandread (watching all these in my viewing group, NoSCAMS)

Samurai 7 (watched all 27 episodes this past Saturday. Once I started I couldn't stop. It's a very cool show)

Eureka Seven (Finished watching the last episode (50) at 4am Sunday morning. Very intense stuff. I ended up liking it a whole lot more than I thought I would.)

Kodomo no Omocha (Kodocha) (A truly great show. Very funny, at times tragic but always entertaining.)

Negima (Not nearly as good as the manga but still enjoyable.)

Am currently watching:

Tsubasa Chronicles (Follows the manga pretty closely with a few minor exceptions. Enjoying it more than I thought I would.)

Avatar: The Last Airbender (okay, so this is not an anime but it easily could be with its use of eastern religion and martial arts. In my opinion it is the best show ever to come out of Nickelodion, which probably isn't saying much but it's still a wonderful show)

Bleach (not enjoying it nearly as much as I thought I might. Lots of friends recommended it and I'm still watching it but I'm not enjoying it nearly as much as I hoped.)

That's about it right now, but since I've finished watching Kodocha and Eureka Seven, I'm going to need to find some new shows to watch.

Laterz,

A. Amishi

Well, I should clarify something about me and Eureka 7. While I can't say it is 'great' due to a few issues I have with it, I did enjoy the series from what I watched. I'd continue to watch more if, well, if my work schedule didn't include Sunday, which it does at the moment. <_<

As for Bleach? I'd recommand the mangas. Usually the mangas are better than the series in general (although I am currently finding the anime pretty good IMO). Not only is it 'faster' pace (since they don't have to worry about 'fillers' like anime series does), but well, given that it is the original source, truer to what the author wanted.

Same is true with Naruto (even if the current chapters suck, they are still ABOVE AND BEYOND better than the anime), same is true for a number of other series as well.

Hmm. Witch Hunter Robin A Amishi? Seen it! And to be honest, not a fan. I mean, it had all the makings of a kickass action series, but in reality, it was more of a long drawn out drama, with a few, and I mean a FEW, action scenes. <_< I'm all for great stories and all but, for WHR, it needed a balance between the two. Which, there wasn't.

Not to mention, while it is VERY pretty series, and the music rocked, the animation itself, quite cheap. I mean, they don't even blink!

Eureka 7: Seen it, all 50 episodes, hated the ending *or was it just THAT pairing?*

Anyway:

Nightwalker: For those who want another vampire anime.

I by no means a supporter of Catholicism or anything, but to make the Pope some whack emo kid?
I found that funny. Just wait to see who's the emperor. :snigger:

Busou Renkin: Heh, interesting isn't it?

about watching anime... well between the dvd's i haven't opened and the anime torrents i havent checked... but most recently i've been into:
  • Aa Megami-sama Sorezore no Tsubasa (AKA: 2nd season): keeps both faithful to the manga, even if there's a little sorting out of the time lines
  • Bleach: you all know it, some of you love it... even if this is a filler season i think it was pretty well planned... and cant help but like the opening and ending music
  • Black Lagoon: oh yeah... hawt and smexy "two hands" Revy *drool* and the 2nd Barrage just started... yaaaaay!
  • Card Captor Sakura: well... my sister got it for me (seriously, she did)... cute, nice addition to the magical girl genre (tho i liked Nanoha more)
  • Tsubasa Chronicles: 2nd season is still going strong... also keeps pretty faithful to the manga, tho with some good changes
  • Eyeshield 21: come on... who doesnt like a sports anime... especially when it's about AMEFUTO!!! YA-HA!
  • Record of Lodoss War - Chronicles of the Free Knight (AKA: TV Series): nice throw back to the AD&D type anime... cute/hawt women, nice amount of hack and slash action and the story' well planned out (i wants a Pirotess for meself!!!)
  • xXx Holic: weird, funny and interesting... sure Yuko looks like an 80's crack chic model... but she wears her clothes mighty nice, i feel sorry for poor Watanuki tho (poor bastard)
  • Ranma 1/2: just couldnt help but break out an oldie but goodie :D

Heh, meant to put this in yesterday. Was watching AMG S2 ep 21.

Heh, Belldandy forced to act demonic, do bad and evil things (well, in her eyes anyway), and invoking demonic system force level events, all to brigthen up Keiichi's life.

Neat (or is that *WIN* in modern slang, showing my age).

Huh... I have a sudden urge to watch the second season now. ^^;;

Lemme see... I recently watched "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion". Rather odd, it seems to completely re-write world history (or adds onto it, I'm not sure), without really giving much of an explanation (at least in the first episode, and you CAN grasp the basics fairly easily from the beginning).

Brittiana (which, judging from the brief map that's shown, is where the USA should be) conquered Japan (seven or so years before the show starts up) and has the country renamed Area 11 (thus, all citzens are known as 11s). They're pretty much submissive to this (having gotten beaten down so badly their descendants can still feel it), except for a few, whom are labeled terrorists due to the new leadership.

The story is centered (from the looks of it) on a boy named "Lelouch". Can't tell a great deal from the beginning, but he was a young child who survived the war, and was assimilated into the new country. Although rather discontent, he lives as a student in one of the more upper class schools of Area 11, somewhat peacefully. However, that changes when he gets involved with a 'terrorist' attack, and stumbles upon a secret of the Brittanic Empire.

Lelouch actually reminds me of Raito from Death Note. His personality seems quite ready to sacrifice necessary losses in order to gain what he needs, and he seems to already developing a god complex from what I can see. ^^;;

Interesting, I'll be continuing to take a look at this one.
