This board isn't dead yet, is it? In case there are some people on this board who don't know me yet, I'm Zenithos. Currently I'm going through Air TV and the Kanon remake. They're both really good. I particularly enjoyed looking out for Air cameos in the the Kanon remake and vice versa.
I also just got Stellvia. The animation is ok so far, though I haven't gotten that far just yet. The opening song is nice though the opening animation left a lot to be desired....felt as if they were forced to try and make enough animation to fill up the entire duration of the song. It's definitely Sci-fi.
Deus Machina Demonbane is ok-ish. I like the premise...it's all about magical grimmoires that have their own personifications who could perform contracts with masters and call out super gigantic mechas.
Innocent Venus is pretty nice but there isn't really enough background info to begin with which could leave you lost at the beginning. It's another post-apocalyptic anime. It seems to revolve around a young girl codenamed Venus. Have yet to finish it.
Suzumiya Haruhi! Need I say more?!
Fate Stay night. Finished it quite a while back. Really good anime. I don't think it needs explaining.
Just got Saikano too. Have yet to watch it, but I heard the angst is quite heart-moving. Tells the story of a little girl-turned-super weapon, Japan's last hope in their losing war against the world. She suffers severe moral dillemmas as she continues to slaughter entire armies to protect the one she loves.
Black Lagoon is the action anime to end all action animes....though I'm kind of used to animes with lots of characters so I found the lack of characters in BL a bit...well...dissapointing. I guess it's just me. But what can you do after having gotten used to the insanity of Mahou Sensei Negima and Love Hina?
Which brings me along to Mahou Sensei Negima. Ok-ish anime but quite a dissapointment to me, since the manga was so good. I don't think the manga really deserved such a crap anime. But I hear the remake is coming soon so...fingers crossed...
Love Hina the anime....don't bother...unless you want to see a few story elements unique to the anime. Otherwise, it was a complete and utter dissapointment after reading the manga.
The Third is a really well made anime. Also post-apocalyptic. It tells the story of a young girl who travels the barren deserts of the desolate future alone on board a tank carravan. Nice action and good drama too.
School Rumble is one of the best comedies I've ever seen in my life, apart from Full Metal Panic. It tells the story of a comedic love triangle between bubbly, clumsy, ditzy little Tenma, School gangster Harima Genji, and this other super perfect dude (who's name I don't bother remembering cuz he's just so darn annoying).
Full Metal Panic is, in all respects, an almost perfect romance comedy, with some hints of action here and there, though I'm sure most of you already know what it is.
Fairy Musketters Otougi Jyushi Akazukin is also pretty good. It seems to be an anime directed at children, though teens could just as well enjoy it. I particularly like it cuz Akazukin's so cute.
Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanohana. A bit of a twist on your average mahou shoujo story, though it somewhat resembles Card Captor Sakura. Brilliant music though.
Utawarerumono is really good too. I particularly like the premise. Tells the story of a man suffering from amnesia, Hakuoro, who was found by some villagers who later adopt him as one of their own. He later leads them in a campaign to overthrow the dictator emperor and so on (don't want to spoil too much). The fantasy world setting is nice and Hakuoro is so cool! The politics and wars are also quite intriguing.
Shuffle! is also quite interesting, and I might add that I found the ending quite shocking. I'm sure you're all aware what it's about though.
Mai Hime is a masterpiece. Animation's nice and clean. The story's a good fusion of romance, action, angst, fantasy, and sci-fi.
Mai Otome is a must-watch if you've seen Mai Hime. It's just as well made as Mai Hime.
Last Exile is amazing. The CG is brilliant and the story's setting and background's really imaginative. Mostly air battles and such. It's really worth a look.
Samurai 7. Need I say more? It's just awesome. Too bad there weren't any female samurais though. Darn sexists.
Samurai Champloo. The animation's really good. And I found the hip-hop and Rap culture element really interesting too. The ending....left a lot to be desired but it was just to be expected I guess.
Green Green is completely echhi but the idea is quite nice. the drama's well made. Can't say much though. If you can't afford to waste time, then don't watch it.
Popotan has a very lighthearted storyline, and is quite a bit ecchi. But the story became quite rivetting close to the end and the idea behind it is...well...brilliant. Tells the story of a group of travellers who teleport their entire home around every now and then. Along the way they meet many people who they befriend. But at times, they get so attached that they become reluctant to leave.
Sister Princess. The animation's not that good and it does seem like the creators were really trying to force the story to accomodate the 12 sisters. But I liked the premise (perhaps cause I myself have twins and a relatively large family). The story's nice and fluffy with that cute saccharine atmosphere. I wouldn't recommend it though, unless you've got lots of time to waste (like me). As you have probably noticed, it's the inspiration for my current fanfic, Love Hina Sister Princess.
Eureka 7 is not your average mecha anime. It's got cool robots that could transform into cars (or planes) that could surf in the skies! They've got boomerangs too! Ok....enough with the fanboyish-rant (seriously, my brothers keep on going about all that). But the idea really is nice and there's this relaxed atmosphere about the anime that really contrasts the war portrayed in it. Ok, lots of people have problems with Eureka/Renton, but the main character's got to have a love interest, right? And I find Eureka's character development quite interesting too.
Chrono Crusade the anime is really well made, with plenty of action and drama. It's got a nice blend of religiousness as well as controversy. I must say I enjoyed the manga a lot more though. It didn't beat around the bush as much and it maintained the pace and tension a lot better than the anime. It tells the story of a Catholic nun specialized in exorcism who's looking for her little brother who had been abducted by a demon because of his special angelic powers, a gift from God. She pairs up with a demon she had made a contract with. The demon takes up her life force and fights on her behalf. Quite heart-touching.
Tsubasa Chronicles. Can't say much. It felt too much like your average Clamp work. I kind of stopped half-way. I might continue it again later when I get the motivation.
Solty Rey is a really nice anime. The action's good and the CG is well-made. Haven't gotten far though. It tells the story of a super-advanced female android who suffers from amnesia and is...sort of adopted by a bounty-hunter father who had lost his daughter in some sort of apocalyptic disaster. Lots of father-daughter drama here, though the father is somewhat reluctant, he still tries to care for his adopted daughter. Heart-touching in some places. Really thrilling in others.
Macross Zero is a particularly good mecha anime, with amazing CG. It's just so eye-dazzling that you can't stop. It's got a really nice blend of fantasy and sci-fi too.
The entire Gundam series. Well....what can I say? gundam is gundam.
Cowboy Bebop. Good action, and nice story too. Even though I don't really like episodic animes, Cowboy Bebop was an exception. It really had thrills and chills, comedy, action, drama, and lots more. It tells the story of a group of bounty hunters aboard a space ship named 'Bebop' who pretty much go around the solar system catching criminals for bounty.I really recommend it.
Rizelmine. Lolicon-ish plot. Lots of ecchi. But has a nice story nonetheless. BTB dragged me and Eternity-Incarnate along to watch it. It's pretty much an anime for boys. You might have noticed that Eternity-Incarnate's current fanfic, 'My Perfect Little Wife', in the Love Hina section, was inspired by Rizelmine.
Aria the animation is a masterpiece. No, it has no action. No, it has no mechas. No, it has no superheroes. Heck, no, it has no magic or anything epic. But that's what's so amazing about it. The setting's the planet Mars (yes, it's slightly sci-fi) in the far future where terraforming has left the planet covered in water. Someone had the bright idea of taking Venice from Earth (renamed ManHome) to Mars (renamed Aqua) and planting it there. Akari Mizunashi, an earthling, aspires to become an undine, a female gondolist/tour guide, and discovers many interesting things about Venice, new and old, along her journey to become a master undine. The story's really relaxed and its slow tempo can really make you fall asleep. It's nice though, and I really enjoy the atmosphere it gives out. Highly recommended, especially as a stress-reliever.
And a good many others which I'm too lazy to mention now....ok, don't look at me like that. I'm just a sad person with so much free time. So sue me. If anyone's interested in hearing more about any particular anime I mentioned, just tell me. I'll be happy to promote any of these animes.
