Some of the events or references in this story will make more sense to those who've read the re:zero light novels. Or, if you are like me, have read the wiki The fanfic starts out slow, but really picks up the pacing and plot from about chapter 10 (the first interlude). The premise is that Subaru is the reincarnation of the Sage who remembers some of what happened in the past. The first few chapters are *very* similar to anime events, but the perspective is from those around Subaru and not our protagonist himself. As such, it's new material. One of the nice things about this story are the pairings. It is a Subaru/Emilia+Satella pairing, but the couples form pretty early on. We don't have that schenegans about will-they-or-wont-they-get-together here. There are larger issues at play in the plot and the couple is fortunate to have each other to rely upon.

I had a lot of fun reading this story. It is not for everyone though. There is a *lot* of angst, self-deprecation and dark stuff happening. Things don't stay dark (thankfully!), but if you found the anime uncomfortable, this is *not* the story for you.

Huh. That ended up being a recommendation. Oh well! I did get sucked into reading that story over the past 2 weeks and am looking for something new now...

The story starts out like Konosuba, but Izuku instead of Kazuma. Basically, Izuku dies, gets asked by Aqua to save a world, he wishes for a companion and she gets pulled in. So far, the usual. But then we have this line which got me giggling;

"Oh no," Aqua suddenly moaned. "Oh no no no no. Not AGAIN!"

I can't help but smile at that. No idea what's going to happen in this story, but the idea that Aqua did the same thing *again* is just too funny! (A few more paragraphs ahead, it is hinted that Kazuma finished his quest)

RE: We Defeated the Devil King, But Now Our Daily Life is Compromised

Because accelerated plot progression is to FanFiction as long titles starting with 'RE:' are to Light Novels. Kazuma and his vibrant cohorts, through their primary means of victory: sheer luck and guile, somehow manage to kill the Devil King, who just happened to be around in the neighborhood. Humorous ramifications abound. COMPLETE

Currently up to chapter 10, and definitely smiling a lot. The gist is the Demon/Devil King wanders into the neighbourhood of the party early on, between the events of volume 4 and 5 (season 2 and the movie), and gets killed by the party lucking out with their moves.

This is a good thing, but with these four idiots, they still get into wacky hijinks and misadventures. Some of it is picking up the plot beats of LNs 5 and 6, at least what I've read so far, though the order of events is somewhat reversed. It's still got that Konosuba humour style, though it definitely goes beyond the boundary of the LNs as far as what would be allowed content (Darkness pisses in public at one point, and Iris' brother Prince Jatis is a shameless, hardcore siscon).

For now, I've stopped reading this. To be fair, the author did say in the very first chapter that he had no plans on where to take the story and that it would be a rule-of-funny style of writing. I liked it upto about chapter 10.

The "plot" takes place, presumaby after the Demon king in Konosuba has been defeated. Due to, well, excuses, Kazuma & Co have become gods. Due to other reasons, some members from MHA get Isekai'd into a random world. They drag Kazuma, Aqua, Megumin & Darkness as they special ability and go on adventures. Darkness ends up falling in love with one of the MHA folks (the fellow with a bird head) and we see a marriage between 2 of the MHA cast too. It's a fun story.

Then, chapter 9 or 10 rolls around and *all* the progress gets reset. i.e. "upper management" of the Gods decides to reset time and put things back to the way they were before chapter 1 even started. Now, there's really nothing wrong with the author doing this. It's done in a comedic manner that, I imagine, other folks will find it fun.

Me? I came in for the shipping. Since that's gone, my interest is gone too.

Here lately I can't recommend anything, because it feels like everything is REALLY blase, which is just straight up disappointing. Though- I mostly stick to the RWBY fandom and Fate occasionally when something crops up. I haven't seen an EVA fic or anything elsewise real interesting lately.

Rather than fics themselves, I've been keeping track of-

Selene Sokal (on both FF.net and AO3, all their porn is on AO3)
Coeur L'Aran (on FF.net- though mostly so I can shit-talk them with my best friend because holy shit.)
CyanideSins (Despite having been personally attached to Cyanide, and wondering whether his failing health has been affecting his writing or if he's just always been a complete nutter and I just missed the signs, hard to say.)

Some recent fics I've read through that I don't care enough about or aren't good enough to bother reccing.

Cogito Ergo Sum, a Death Note fanfic

Sayu's world is a lonely one - the only person she knows to be like her is her brother, and he is trapped in a kind of thinking that she can neither relate to nor pull him out of. Until one day, when she meets someone whose perspective is the same as hers, and something strange, beautiful and new blossoms into being.

This fic takes the premise of Light's younger sister Sayu also being a genius, but hiding it from everyone, including her brother. However, she discovers Light's Death Note, which lets her talk to Ryuk, and they form a weird friendship. However, the fic seems adamantly determined to not change the course of the canonical timeline one bit, which really bothers me when a side premise like this absolutely should have changed events.


Bringing Order to this Wonderful World, a Konosuba fanfic

What started off as just a spite project quickly turned into a serious profession that one Satou Kazuma has become a prodigy in. He moved out, got accepted into a great law school, and has finally found a home that will not judge him for staying up all night playing JRPGs. So long as he gets his work done and arrives to class on time, he should be fine. Only...he never made it to the first day of class. In a startling turn of events, he now has to fix the inner workings of heaven while also having to kill the Demon King of an entirely new world. It isn't without it's upsides, however. By the name of the law, he'll be the Hero only seen in video games or die trying!

Kazuma becomes a child prodigy and lawyer before getting isekai'd. It works for a few chapters, then it becomes too much of a boring power wank fantasy. The writing itself is alright and competently done, but it lacks any real spark to bother watching updates.
