Just back from the Lego Batman movie. It's great.

If you liked the Lego movie, you'll like this. If you don't take superheroes too seriously and like a laugh, you'll love this.

(Paraphrasing here) "A team of bad guys to catch bad guys? That's a terrible idea!"

And "British Robots! Ask your nerd friends."

Saw the new Resident Evil movie.

It was a popcorn muncher. Fun entertainment but don't think too hard about the plot or you'll get a headache.

Just caught The Founder, the drama about Ray Kroc and the expansion of McDonald's.

A good film, but not a particularly cinematic one. Certainly worth a rental/Netflix/Other non-big screen option.

The Lego Batman movie.

There were parts of the movie that I could not stop laughing at, particularly when Alfred mentions all the phases that Batman went through. Especially since he just lists the release year for every batman movie ever, even the one from 1966.

And the password to the Batcave is "Iron Man sucks!"

Saw John Wick: Chapter 2 yesterday, and I liked it.

There's something satisfying about watching an R-rated action movie these days, especially since the majority of movies with action in these days seem to be PG-13.

One spoiler: The dog in this one is a a good dog that survives to the end.

Watched The Great Wall yesterday and Toni Erdmann today.

The Great Wall: Entertaining Sunday afternoon fare. It didn't try to be high art and the lead Chinese actress, Tian Jing, is a very attractive young lady.

Matt Damon's accent? It wanders a bit over the course of the film.

Overall, it's perfectly fine to watch while hungover on a Sunday.

Toni Erdmann. It's long. It's understandable while people won't like it and not just because it's subtitled. Watching it, you can tell it's a foreign film by the way it's shot.

It's not a full on laugh-out-loud comedy, but more of a drama about a father who likes a spot of light trolling and his estranged business-like daughter with some very funny moments.

When Hollywood remakes it, I can guarantee that they'll omit at least one scene, possible two. They will DEFINITELY skip the Petite Fours scene and possibly also the party scene.

Just back from Logan.

Yes.

It's worth your time and money to see it on the big screen.

It's violent and sweary and has some good poignant moments.

Did you stick around for the post-credits scene? Was it memorable?

I was told that there wasn't one, so we left after the Johnny Cash song that played over the credits.

Apparently there isn't one. My bad.

I saw Kong: Skull Island and it's fine for a spot of mindless entertainment in the vein of The Great Wall.

It's certainly worth a rental, or matinee performance if that's convenient for you. Not sure about the 3D premium.

Caught Free Fire yesterday.

Good, if sweary, fun. Good gritty 70's feel.

Might not be readily known (I haven't seen it yet), but Kong: Skull Island is in the same 'verse as the 2014 Godzilla movie. They're aiming for a crossover in 2020.

And there we have it, saw the new Power Rangers.

I liked it, but this is less a movie about the power rangers, and more a movie about those who become the power rangers.

Went to see Life, it was about what i expected from the reviews. Decent visual effects but bleh on the horror aspect.

Just back from Ghost in the Shell.

It's... OK. 6/10. Mainly because the visuals and music are pretty good.

The story? That's less good.

And yeah, it's a waste of Takeshi Kitano and Chin Han.

Just got done watching Dr. Strange at long last.

If you haven't seen it... I highly recommend it.

Just back from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol2.

It's good fun. Drax was hilarious, Rocket the Trash Panda was also funny and Baby Groot was cute. There are FIVE sequences during the end credits, so sit through all of them.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Saw it and loved it. It's a slightly different flavor than the first but still has all the trimmings of comedy, drama, and action.

Saw Guardians V2, good movies. Rocket and Yondu had more growth then I expected. The Big Bag got exactly what they deserved.

SPOILERS AHEAD!!

Guardian v2 was freaking awesome. I also love all the character growth they've undergone - not just in this movie, but since the end of the first one. Peter was trying to be a more responsible leader (he even chastises Rocket for worrying more about the music player than the incoming monster), Gamora has chilled out a bit and is willing to dance with Peter, Rocket has taken a liking to Peter's music and acts out like a freshly adopted abused-teenager who can't believe his new parents actually love him and is trying to push them away, and Drax seems to gained a basic understanding of metaphors and humor (particularly practical jokes). Groot has actually gone backwards though, but that's understandable since he's basically a baby. Even the villains (especially Yondu and Nova) get some incredible character development, which is rare for a Marvel movie where the villains are usually totally one-note and boring.

The movie is quite a bit darker in tone overall than the first movie, but somehow the humor is even better. There's tons of brilliant call-back jokes to things that happened earlier in the movie and it has the best Stan Lee cameo yet. I just love everything about this movie.

Make sure you stick around after the credits, there's a whopping 5 extra scenes to watch.

Yondu and Nebula's stuff really surprised me...I kind of figured Yondu was a decent guy deep down but Nebula's motivation caught me off guard.
