What are you watching?

Saw Geostorm this afternoon.

It's not going to make anyone's top ten movies of the year lists, but it was mildly entertaining and moves at a reasonably brisk pace as it clocks in at under two hours.

Matinee it or allow it to wash over you on a lazy afternoon as you lie on the sofa.

Finally watched Spiderman: Homecoming. Was quite nice, love that it wasn't an origin story. Like anyone alive doesn't know the spiderman story by now.

I just hope they let him fucking graduate. He was only in High School for about twelve issues of the original run.

In fact, he was named Spider-Man and not Spider-Boy specifically because he was intended to age.

Just back from Thor Ragnorok (via the pub).

I can highly recommend it if you're in the mood for something fun and funny. Jeff Goldblum is great, as you would expect, and the character of Korg made me smile. It's worth your time this week/weekend a lot more than Geostorm.

He was a jr right? Really depends on how much time has passed between movies so far. This was set pretty soon after age of ultron from what I saw.

Whats really getting to me about the marvel ciniematic universe is everyone is taking these world changing events more or less in stride. Aliens exist, superpowers exist, ultra advance tech exists, yet the average person seems more or less unaffected.

Sure, we have some adapted tech in some places, but it seems like it's just not filtering down too much outside government agents.

Also, started RWBY season 5.

So far so good, mostly plt in the first two episodes, and only one action scene. Things appear to be moving quite quickly though.

I don't recall exactly. Still, Spider-man really hasn't been in High School for most of his comic book career. Like I said, it was a grand total of around 12 issues. I'm getting kind of sick of him being shoved back to that with every incarnation when the more interesting stories involving him are all after that period.

It makes sense for an origin movie, but there's no need for it if we're skipping that. He'd be just as interesting and relatable as a college student, and would actually fit in with the rest of the MCU better that way.

I'm not saying take it all the way to Parker Industries, just that for most of his history he's been an adult. He could have easily been doing the web swinging thing for a while in the MCU under the radar since he was in high school.

I'm not mad about it in the latest movie, but I'd like to see him in college in the sequel. Like I also said, he's supposed to grow up and get older. That's central to his character and why he aged and did things like go through adult relationships and get married.

As for the tech, that kind of makes sense for it to be that way in the movies because that's how it is in the comics too. Normal people are pretty much the same and have the same level as tech as we do in general.

It's just the more 'comic book' organizations and individuals such as, SHIELD, heroes, high level corporate employees [like say Roxxon or Stark employees], and villains who have anything more advanced than basic internet and cell phones.

Normal people still have regular technology and that's basically it. Rocket actually has a little rant about this in Guardians of the Galaxy during the Civil War 2 arc during a scene where the Guardians are arriving to Earth.

It works in a comics, but not so much in real life. I mean, hell, the existence of aliens with superior tech should be starting the mother of all arms races, and huge amounts of public fear that the world may not be able to repel future assaults. With shield gone, that fear should have grown.

With superpowered individuals out there, i'm surprised every nation isn't building their own avengers at this point.

True, but they are comic book movies after all. It might not make sense in real life, but given that context it does make sense that the Marvel movies are like that too.

Also, the arms race is a thing. It's just not trickling down to consumer level tech. Lots of storylines revolve around that. What do you think Sentinels are, or Deathlocks, or SHIELD tech? The military does things like that too. It's part of the reason there are so many Hulks, that's where half the Hulk villains come from, plus things like Weapon X.

Most nations do have a super team of some sort that is comparable to the Avengers. Alpha Flight, Big Hero 6, Winter Guard, Excalibur, People's Defense Force, Les Heroes de Paris, etc...

Madea Halloween 2 was funny. It was weird though to watch what seemed like the TV edit in a movie theater. There were numerous instances where they were clearly mouthing one thing but the audio didn't match up (e.g. "crap" replacing "shit").

Just came back from Thor: Ragnarok....Good movie, definitely a comedy but they pulled it off for the most part.

Back from Justice League.

It was OK. I can see why there's a disconnect between the critics' reviews and that audience opinion. Steppenwolf is a weak and uninteresting villain and there were skybeams, but there was nothing that would make you angry like in BvS or Man of Fail.

Henry Cavill gave his best performance yet as Superman.

Just watched Justice League and am hopeful about what they’ll bring us next.

My local cinema had a secret screening tonight, I was hoping for the reissue of Predator or Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, but it was Molly's Game.

I can honestly recommend that you see Molly's Game, as it's good. Jessica Chastain is very good, as is Idris Elba, but when is he not good?

They haven't made a movie of the Dark Tower.

(I actually haven't seen the Dark Tower)

You're better off not having seen it.

It's more a waste of time better spent on other movies than awful. It's too campy for the source material, no one in it is on point, and while it does have a few cool action scenes it's a forgettable mess of a film.

If you want to watch a decent recent Steven King adaption, watch IT.

I still think Pennywise looked too much like a monster in his clown form, but otherwise it's pretty great.

Just pass on The Dark Tower. It won't do any damage to watch it, but it is better to just ignore it.

But was Idris Elba any good as the Gunslinger? I mean, within the limitations of the direction and script he was given.

I'd argue he was good as the Gunslinger given the limitations he was working within. I'd be up for him continuing to play the role in a reboot of the movie's concept (Last time around) as a series on netflix.

I don't think anyone was "good" in that movie.

He wasn't bad per-say, but it's far from a decent performance and he kind of phones it in. I think he knew how bad what he was in was going to be, and it impacted his performance. It's one of those movies where the writing seems like it was on the wall.

Like I said, the movie is all camp, and that doesn't really fit for what it is. He kind of fell in with the rest of the cast and seemed to resign to it.

Matthew McConaughey is the best part of the movie because he just hams it up the whole time he's on screen. He commits to the camp completely and ends up the only one who seems at home in the level of movie he's aware he's in. It's not a good performance either per say, just a performance from someone who is aware of what he's ended up in and just goes with it.

Rewatched Star wars episode 4 on blu ray. Amazing that while the 1977 effects still hold up nicely, the 90's era CGI really sticks out like a sore thumb.

Caught Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle earlier tonight and it's great fun.

The Rock is great, as you would expect and Jack Black made me laugh a lot as Jack Black playing a teenaged girl stuck in his body.
