What games are you playing 2: The revenge

Twitch gave away a bit of goodies for the console version of Tera, so I went ahead and rolled a character on it. IT seems smoother on standard ps4 then the beta was, though several classes form the PC version are still missing.

Finally managed to get over 50% completion on Lego City Undercover today, after a hours-long session. There's just so much to find in this game; I was totally unprepared for it! The world is just so much bigger than the one in Lego Marvel Superheroes. I'm still discovering areas I didn't know existed. I'm having fun with it, even though the startup time and occasional lag is very annoying.

The family Kame Hame Ha...is nice...but Bardock's dramatic finish vs Frieza is awesome.

Console Tera is pretty fun with the right class so far. My brawler is lv 20 now, ready for the first true dungeon.

My copy of Farcry 5 finally arrived though, so Tera will be on the backburner for a while.

I've been playing Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth (PS4 version) and Persona 5 (I'm on my second playthrough in the latter).

Crusadermon is annoying, that's all I have to say about the Digimon game.

Finished God of War.

I hadn't been keeping up with it in news and didn't realize that it isn't a reboot, but is in fact a direct sequel.

It was not what I was expecting, in a good way.

It is every bit as epic as the others, but seems to have matured somehow as well. The story is more poignant and Kratos is not the same God he was in the previous games.

The ending was very cool, and sets up a sequel. I got a wicked smile on my face at a certain point.

If you own a PS4, you need this game. Don't miss it, I'd say it's the best in the entire series, and that's saying something.

Been playing a lot of Monster Hunter the last few weeks, the new events have been grand. The latest is a full on Raid, and the drops are some of the best in the game. The armor that you craft is also glorious for many builds.

This Monday at ~5am EST, I'm gonna be doing a Bogey Shot challenge in Everybody's Golf.

After each hole, if I got a Bogey, I drink a shot.

It ends after A) The stream runs for it's usual time, B) I run out of booze, or C) I throw up.

Skooma is a hell of a drug, but I don't have that, so Fireball will have to do.

God of War for the PS4.

I am going to be honest....this is the most likable that Kratos has EVER been. I see a man trying to connect with his son, trying to teach him the things he must learn...but also a man afraid of his past and what mark that past might leave on his son. The Boy...so far, seems like a good kid...and I find myself becoming fond of him, and trying to win battles more effectivly so that Kratos will congratulate the boy on a job well done. Also, I enjoy seeing the boy get enemies in a choke hold long enough for me to charge the axe and split their skulls right down the middle.

I've also decided that I LIKE the Leviathan Axe. It took some getting used to, and I'm no where near as proficient with them as I was the old blades of Chaos (yet) but there's something about it that just works....possibly the fact it feels like a fusion of Thor's hammer and Jarnbjorn...and there really is something about using it to split skulls that is immensely satisfying.

Also...the game is gorgeous...I mean seriously...I've got an old school PS4 and even on that system the game just looks amazing...and has plenty to do. I mean you have your main quest but there are plenty of side quests and treasure hunts that provide rewards that feedback into the upgrade system (Trying to get armor infused by fire from Musphelim is going to be a *****), but also give Kratos and Atreus a chance to talk and learn...which is a reward in and of itself. I was so proud of the boy when he finally realized that doing favors for strangers for free was a fools errand.

Ah well, I think I'm about half way through the game...I could speed towards the end...but since this is God of War I am fully expecting to get into a few more fights with gods, giants and whatever other megafauna is wandering the norse lands so I'm taking the boy on a grand tour of every optional boss battle and quest their is until both our powerlevels are over 9999.

Styx: Shards of Darkness

Got it used for about CAD 20/-. I've played the original on PC. It was fun and decided to plunge in again.

The first level was level+tutorial. There were tutorial segments, but it was big enough that I think of it as a proper level too. I tried moving about everywhere - missed the time bonuses, and also missed the 100% completion thing. A pity, that.

When Styx dies, we get some 4th wall breaking comments from him towards the player. Actually, it extends to some points in the game too. After completing the first mission, Styx kind-of shows off his hideout to the player. I found it amusing.

Am playing on the easiest difficulty. The guards can kill me if I screw up, but I'm playing this assassin style - killing off anyone I can get away with. Think I got an achievement for it too.

At the beginning of the second mission - after walking a bit, Styx gets a job from a VERY unusual source. Surprised me when I saw who it was. Stopped playing at that point. Will jump in again later.

Watched a few streamers play bits and pieces of Detroit: Become Human.

If not for the CTE, it's basically just a visual novel with a heck of a lot of branching paths. Apparently, based on your choices the entire back half the game can be different.

I've been playing Disgaea 5 recently. Seems great enough, but I haven't even gotten past the second chapter yet, so we'll see.

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon.

It's a little mini prequel to Bloodstained that seeks to mimic the 8/16-bit Castlevania games. I'm a KS backer so I got it as part of the package I paid for when I backed it.

It's "retro" in the same sense that Shovel Knight is. It's going for the asthetic, even so far as to mimic graphical limitations and bugs that were present in the Castlevania series, but does things no 8-bit era game could actually do under the hood.

It also tries to mimic the feel of how enemies spawned in 8-bit era games with a slightly modern twist. They just spawn endlessly from within certain areas rather than appearing in the exact same spot when you scroll past certain points. It achieves a similar effect and works better from a gameplay perspective.

Gameplay wise it is very much Castlevania, Castlevania 3 to be specific. It also has a Trine like mechanic where you can switch between characters on the fly, but they also have individual health and can "die" leaving you unable to switch until a level is finished or all characters die and you start again.

You can also switch to keep one of them from getting killed, and then switch back to grab healing items. I've also noticed that health is more abundant than it generally is in Castlevania games.

It also has an easy mode with unlimited lives and no knockback when you get hit. It claims there's no penalty for playing in that mode. I gave it a shot and quickly returned to the normal mode. It just felt wrong to not get knocked back when taking a hit in a Castlevania style game.

All and all, this seems like a good deal for $10. Especially if you're a fan of the 8-bit era Castlevania games. It's a bit easier than a real 8-bit era Castlevania game even in the normal mode and the asthetic is more a coat of paint than "what it was really like". They've definitely gotten the feel right for sure, but it's more "how we remember those games being through our rose colored glasses" as opposed to what they were actually like. The controls are tighter and it runs much smoother than an NES game actually would.

I don't think it's a very long game, but it does have some replay value as it has areas that can only be accessed with certain characters in your roster. You don't start with everyone and unlock them as you play by beating bosses Castlevania III style. So you'll need to play the game to completion at least a few times to see and do everything.

Looking forward to when Bloodstained gets released. The demo was great, and I've been following the project closely and everything about it seems legit and awesome. It's the anti-Mighty No. 9 as far as I can tell and seems to be absolutely getting done right by people who know what the hell they are doing. Igarashi is not all talk and this seems to be a real attempt at a legitimate franchise. This little 8-bit emulating gem has only verified that further.

IGA has always been able to back up his talk... which considering his talk, is damn well saying something.

IGA was a producer and director on the series hes basically cloning. Which is fantastic, really, seeing as Konami doesn't give a rats about castlevania anymore.

I'm holding off on playing CoTM, mainly cause i'm a ps4 backer and there is no point in putting time into the steam preview version. Really hoping the physical ps4 version isn't delayed for the main game like this, kickstarters are notorious for having those arrive way later then the digital versions, sometimes upwards of a year.

No. And you shouldn't either.

Eek, what makes it so bad?
Reviews are mixed and it apparently had a rough launch. Server issues, class restrictions, etc...

Seems to have been mostly cleared up, but there's still a lot of griping.

From what I've gathered there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it, so much as it doesn't do anything particularly well. I'm seeing the word "uninspired" a lot regarding it.

Doesn't look bad for what it is.

It's early access as well, so it's not really a finished game. This is both a pro and a con.

It's a pro, because user feedback can improve things and joining now could be getting in on the ground floor of something that ends up being pretty cool.

It's a con, because it's not done, and there's no guarantee it ever will be. The reaction to it so far has been mixed, and that isn't really a good thing for early access. It means that if things tip too far into the negative, the game's development could fail and it could be abandoned.

Honestly, you're probably better off holding off for a while. It means missing out on that leet early adopter status if it does catch on, but chances are it will just be another MMO where the servers are offline or mostly barren within a few years.

It also has microtransactions already and a monthly fee on top of that.

I wouldn't risk the $30 price tag in the current state of the game.

Beat CotM. Was a cool little retro thing. Pretty short overall as well.

It's really just window dressing for the upcoming release though.

Anyway, moved on to My Time In Portia.

It's an early access crafting/farming thing. I've heard people say it's Stardew Valley meets Breath of the Wild.

It's from the same publisher as the game Planet Explorers. If you haven't heard of that game, I'm not surprised. It's a small studio, not quite indie sized. PE had a lot of neat ideas and was a fairly interesting survival crafting thing. It wanted to be more ambitious than the budget allowed for I think.

This seems to have both expanded on a lot of the ideas there, and also scaled things down a little. The result is somewhat charming, but a bit weird due to some of the issues with it being early access and unfinished. There's missing audio in some of the cutscenes where there clearly should be audio, the residents behave a little weird sometimes, and there are areas where you can tell things are being worked on.

On the plus side, I've been down the early access hole with this dev company before, and the end results were mostly positive. Portia is an improvement over their previous work, and I can see there could be a gem under the unpolished stone of its current state.

Kind of reminds me of a mobile game in some ways. No microtransactions, just the way the crafting works. Also, the character designs remind me of mobile game characters. Large heads and cartoonish. The game has a sort of cartoon asthetic to it.

Lots to explore and do so far. You can farm, mine, explore dungeons, craft various things. You're not a farmer, but a sort of handyman in the game. You can farm, but the focus is on building things and doing maintenance work around town.

Crafting takes a long time as well. This isn't a game where you just dig stuff up and instantly smelt a hundred iron bars at a crafting station. You have to plan ahead and it takes a while for the crafting stations to create your metal bars. You set them and then run off and do other things for a while.

That said, it is fairly rewarding so far. Exploring has usually paid off, and you make steady and consistent progress towards building your little workshop and farm up. Resources are kind of a pain to obtain early on, but after a while you'll be swimming in them.

If you like Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing, or Stardew Valley, give this one a look. It's early access, but complete enough to be enjoyable. I'm looking forward to following development of this one, as while rough, I did enjoy their last effort in Planet Explorers, and this one is an improvement on that already.

Nah, there's more issues with Bless. Scams, copyright infringement, etc etc.

EDIT:
https://old.reddit.com/r/Bless/comments/8o3pin/it_works_ini_modifying_can_make_you_fly_i_also/

aparently editing client side ini files will let you fly, give you items, changes stats.... this thing is a clusterfuck.
