Not the thread I was intending to make, but this has been nibbling at the back of my mind for a long while now and I figured might as well get a thread up about it.
Anyway the particular plot thread I'm mentioning was brought up twice during the arrancar arc, both times can be seen/referenced here: http://www.mangahere.com/manga/bleach/v39/c340/18.html
It was repeatedly implied that something had been done to Orihime during her capture that put her out of her friend's reach, but not only was this plot thread dropped like a sack of bricks among countless other plot points during the arrancar arc, but we never even got a real solid answer on just what this was.
Of course there are two very obvious answers that could be had here, and a third one as well that's essentially the 'cop out' answer 'Oh they're just talking about the mind games they were playing with her' which is effectively the plot answer at this point, but that's because the Arrancar arc was the shittiest point this series has ever fallen to.
Regardless, the first obvious answer of course is the source of countless inner Hollow Orihime images you can find scattered about, and the other is something that is quite honestly too serious for consideration. The point of this particular thread however is to throw a few more wrenches into the mix, getting a few more unorthodox answers to drastically shake things up and have a huge impact on the story depending how it goes past this point. Now obviously I wouldn't make this thread unless I had one potential answer myself, so here it is:
Remember this guy? Ichigo's random new hollow form that was completely different than his previous one in every way that seemed to come out of nowhere?
Well, there's a fairly popular theory going around that Orihime was actually the cause behind Ichigo's above transformation. This being because the dying Ichigo was actually inside her rejection sphere when Orihime was flipping out and begging Ichigo to save them when he was kinda dying at the moment. So the natural extension to the logic is that she literally willed Ichigo to be powerful enough to do so, which resulted in the form above.
Obviously however there's more to this. Orihime is quite literally capable of bringing the dead back to life, she actually did it this very arc with Menol and if given free reign no one could possibly stay dead so long as Orihime was still alive and willed them back. Aizen clearly would be aware of this fact so, let's just ignore the stupidity that was Deicide Aizen for a moment. Instead let's deal with the actually intelligent Aizen without plot hax who tries to twist the scenario to his advantage but doesn't actually have full control of everything.
That Aizen decides this can't be left to chance, so using either the original parameters of the orb that breaks down the barriers between Shinigami and Hollows or his own research into hollowification that's been repeatedly referenced that he was pursuing at this point, corrupts Orihime's ability to add a rather horrific twist to it. Oh she's still perfectly capable of bringing back the dead, but now it has the rather unfortunate side effect of also applying Hollowification on the target, to such an extent that it will rapidly boost existing hollow abilities or outright force them to become full on hybrids if no corruption previously existed.
So innocent Orihime who only naturally would attempt to heal anyone in need friends could end up doing Horrific damage to them in the process. Captains she tries to heal back to full strength suddenly start going on a berserk rampage as they turn Vizard, new kinds of hybrids could get created like a cross between a Quincy and a Hollow that Ishida would not be prepared for, Chad goes full on hollow up in this bitch, the whole shebang.
And while this alteration would cause complete devastation on the majority of the good side of this war, it also has the added bonus of having no negative impact on the Majority of Aizen's forces, them already being horrific hollow empowered monsters which Orihime making stronger would really only be a bonus. A simple change that causes his foes untold harm no matter which side she chooses on her own, and makes his foes greatest fallback plan a complete crap shoot.
Yeah, that'd make sense to me. More interesting than inner Hollow Orihime in terms of the long term plans at least. :sisi:
