What manhwa are you reading?

Seeing the difference in style, medium, and storytelling I thought I'd start a new thread to differentiate Korea from Japan.

And to start off, holy freaking shit. This Manwha is AWESOME!

S.I.D. - Supernatural Investigation Department

This Manwha has everything! Great style, humour, fight scenes, well written and rounded characters, an interesting backstory and jesus christ, the pacing! The cast is one of the best I've ever seen in any work of fiction! I've just finished chapter 54 -which also corresponds to Season 1 of the Manwha- and holy crap, I can't wait to read more!

RE: What Manwha are you reading?

Oh look, our first update: The Breaker: New Waves 129

So here's a bunch of Korean stuff I've read or I'm currently reading:

The Breaker
A new HR teacher, Chun-woo is a nothing ordinary with his wily ambitions and neglect of a bullied boy, Shin-woo. However, after unexpectedly witnessing his great power, Shin-woo begs him to learn it. They could start their lesson only after Shin-woo throws his body into deep river to prove his will. However, Shin-woo did not know his master is stronger than he can imagine. He was a killer with mastery of nine martial arts who was hiding himself after a big mission!

Tower of God
What do you desire? Fortune? Glory? Power? Revenge? Or something that surpasses all others? What ever you desire, that is here. Tower of God.

TRACE
The story set in the contemporary South Korea. Some 30 years ago, unidentified creatures appeared out of nowhere and have attacked people. They have caused massive destruction wherever they go. The monsters are called "Trouble", and get the world have fallen into chaos. Along with the first appearance of the "Troubles", some number of humans were born with or acquired supernatural abilities. These mutants called "Trace" are the only ones who can fight off the "Trouble". The "Trace" are also considered freaks and generally shunned by the community because some of them misused the powers for their own interest. The plot revolves around two main characters. Sah Gang-kwon, a high school student born as a "Trace" who attempts to hide his ability. The other is Kim Yun-Seong, who acquired his "Trace" abilities during his early 30s. Soon after the acquision, his wife and daughter were taken away from him for experimental purposes. P.S. this was originally a webcomic that was then published.

Magician
In the village of Adatt, Re-Mi, the tomboy granddaughter of a local witch, sees the infamous mage Eldermask en route to her hometown. Wanting to find out who is stronger, she sets off to challenge him with his childhood friend En-Jeu, a novice swordsman who is always being dragged around wherever she goes… However in the background there is a war going on between the two powerful nations Teodorl and Aleumhan in order to rule the sea!

Immortal Regis
One day, suddenly... a night where the moon shines like never before, a boy meets the otherworldly Serin, a denizen of Chaos, only to die and become the undead. Now immortal, he can no longer exist with humans due to an ancient law... A tale of revelations that begins as he returns to Chaos, the start of a new adventure!

Kubera
A girl with a god's name, Kubera. The god who's prophesied to bring great change into the world. The story begins with Kubera in a remote mountain village with her family, But her life turns upside down as she witnesses the fiery end to her town and everyone she knows. Accompanied by a magician of riddles, watch as world trembles at the war against the gods.

Noblesse
A vampire wakes up from a 820 year slumber in contemporary South Korea. As the being adapts to his surroundings, he accidentally enrolls at a school...

Girl of the Wild's
Wilds high, it has a history of 42 years as a fighting specialist all girls private highschool meant solely for the elite. The place Wilds-League is held, the most popular event in the country, the only place in the world where teenage girls have brutal fights with their lives. This year has been changed into a mixed gender school. The only male student- Song Jae Gu, has been granted a full 3-year scholarship regardless of grades. Being someone who had to spend every moment working or taking care of his two younger brothers, he accepted. However, the scholarship was granted with the sole condition he does not leave. But after meeting Queen, the bloody champion of Wild's-League, drenching her in coffee, calling her a "Monster" and getting caught while she was taking a shower... that could prove fatal.

Girl of the Wild's 104

"Wow, all this bullshit over a dessert."

Some suspect the author is attempting to pair the spares early to head off any harem vibes.

Kubera 158

The Priestess of Chaos is not giving a fuck about your bullshit.

Ruler of the Land 166

The guy behind these translations has been slamming out a number of chapters at a time. This starts off the latest batch of chapters he released.

Description here is kind of misleading. Sah Gang-kwon isn't anywhere near as much a main character as Kim Yun-Seong. He's simply the first plot-centric character introduced, and he doesn't become relevant again till right near the end as one of five characters that all play a major part there. The story is very much about former average salaryman Kim Yun-Seong and the direction his life takes and the choices he makes following the abduction of his Wife and Daughter, and it is fantastic. I would recommend it to everyone.

Pity new chapters of the sequel take so long (at least to get translated, I don't know about actually released).

Indeed. :sisi:

Witch Hunter
Witches suddenly declare war against humans, causing two-thirds of the world to fall apart. They summon monsters called Supporters and devastate human residences... but why? Survivors gather people with the power to combat the witches and called them Witch Hunters! Tasha Godspell is one of the strongest nicknamed The Marksman along with his Jack-O-Lantern looking Supporter. He fights the witches but cannot really bring himself to hate them...

Probably the most shounen-like manhwa I've come across.

Id
Chunwha is plunged into a world beyond his own... There he will struggle to find his own purpose among the many inhabitants of the new world including elves, dwarves, and even mages! Was it fate that had brought him there? Will he ever return to his own world?

Been a long while since that was updated/translated. Though I kept losing track of what was happening anyway.

Yureka
In real life, Roto, Boromid and Ah-Dol are average kids with average problems, but in the virtual world of Lost Saga, they're heroes. They might even become legends... if they can stop bickering long enough to level up. Whether it's werewolves running rampant or a gorgeous pair of troublesome thieves, our boys must be ready for anything, because in Lost Saga nothing is what it seems and murder can happen with a click of a mouse.

I tried this one and heard good things, I think, but it didn't really capture my interest.

One of my favorite manwha is Special Martial Arts Extreme Hell Private High School (Geukji High School).
A teenager decides to enroll in a Martial Arts High school so he can learn how to defend himself and not get bullied anymore. But the school he chosen to enroll is not like all other typical martial arts schools and he will soon be caught up by a surprise…

Black God
Black God is about a computer programmer who meets a Mototsuitama (divine spirit) over a bowl of ramen and loses an arm because of it. He wakes up the next morning with the arm intact and discovers that every person has a doppleganger and some even have a triple liner.

The only work by Im Dal Young (writer of Freezing, Aflame Inferno, Legend of Maian and others) that I actually think is good. Probably because he's apparently a co-author and co-artist for this.

I feel like calling this chick Demon Boxer instead of Boxer Girl. Fierce.
Oh, god, yes... Don't let that pink hair fool you; Moon Young will fuck you up if you piss her off. And dude was so full on himself, he didn't hear the warning bells when Moon correctly deduced how long he had been boxing.

Too bad her Jae Gu/Dempsey Roll fantasies probably won't be coming to fruition.

I probably follow quite a few more, but these ones
Dr Frost
We trust professionals with our money. We also trust professionals with our bodies. We even trust them with the most meticulous tasks, like decorating our homes and educating our children. Even marriage decisions. We could trust professionals with so many things. However, what about our minds?

The story of a genius psychologist, Dr. Frost.
Peak
21-year-old [Ryu Yeon-seong] is about to start his mandatory military service in the ROK Army. But unlike most other conscripts, he and four others are assigned to the mountain police rescue unit stationed at Mt. Bukhan, a small mountain on the outskirts of Seoul. Not knowing much about it, they think it'll be a walk in the park, and count themselves lucky to have landed such a cushy assignment. But when they arrive at the mountain, the group soon learn that they're in for more than they bargained for.
The Gamer
What would happen if your world suddenly turned into a game?
If you could level up and raise your stats?
An adventure of a life-turned-game

What happened with A-Team and Id? I've never managed to find anything on why they stopped scanlating it (due to some weird sense of scanlator loyalty, I haven't read any releases not made by them or their predecessor group).

Minor thread correction: It's manHWA.

Tower of God and The Breaker, of course. I want a modern-day Wuxia setting to play a Breaker themed tabletop.
I think those two are pretty much mandatory reading these days

What Watashiwa is reading, Freezing, Cavalier of the Abyss, Girls of the Wild's, Witch Hunter. Still waiting for the sequel to Veritas.

Didn't like Veritas much. Even more so when I read The Breaker sometime afterwards which, in my opinion, blows it out of the water.

Did Cavalier of the Abyss improve? Years back, I remember the general opinion being fairly negative.

Girls of the Wilds 105. Seems pretty much a love triangle between Queen, Cat girl and Protagonist now. Wish I knew what the series was focusing on now.

Shockingly, yes. The flashbacks explained most of the part 1-->part 2 issues. It's pretty heartbreaking.

Also, I loved Veritas. Really wish that they hadn't needed to accelerate the ending due to declining popularity. Also wish that the team could agree to try starting up part 2. Oh well.

Improve? Yes, yes it did. Shocking improvement with a whole load of curve balls.

Cavalier of the Abyss is much better than it's predecessor, and better for having jumped forward as it did. The eventual reveals of the interrelationships and occurrences between work far better as twists than they would have as linear events.

Ah, I suppose I'll get around to re-reading Immortal Regis and moving on from there then.

Black God 99

Which I later discovered isn't actually a manhwa but a Japanese-Korean manga written by a pair of Koreans.
