What Square-Enix games would you like to see HD remasters and/or remakes of?

In the last year, we've received an Actraiser HD remaster with extra content, and will get a Live-A-Live remaster along the same lines that will also be released in English for the first time. There was also Trials of Mana a few years back, which was a full-blown remake of the old Seiken Densetsu 3. Given Actraiser was a Quintet title, it means Squeenix doesn't appear to be afraid of digging into the IPs it's acquired from other acquisitions through the years (well, Quintet I don't believe is owned by Square-Enix, but is in some weird legal limbo where they seem to have gone poof, but Enix may have had old publisher rights).

Since I mentioned Quintet above, getting remasters of the Soul Blazer trilogy (Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma) would be nice. I'm cautiously optimistic for an Ogre Battle (Quest) remaster or new game. The crowning jewel I'd really love is Secret of Evermore, though that's probably extremely unlikely to happen. If there was any game that Square probably lost the source code for, that would be it (it was their American studio's only game before it got shut down).

I know there's no chance in hell of it happening, but I'll put down Xenogears. I would seriously love them to redo the game and actually properly work out the second half of it instead of it being the half-assed thing that got rushed out the door.

I liked playing Terranigma on a SNES emulator. It was an amazing game (never finished it).

Seiken Densetsu 3 is a classic - I wish they would make a remaster of it - in 2D. I've seen the 3D transition and it looks like they've tried to keep with the old 2D battle system, but it just feels weird. The fun of that game was how well it came off on the SNES! In 2D!!

Legend of Dragoon

I love that game, but it's definitely clunky in places.

A pair of SNES RPGs from Enix: The 7th Saga and Terranigma.

Very old-school, but considering Square Enix upgraded the first three Dragon Quest games, I don't see why these two wouldn't get the same treatment.

Chrono Trigger and Lufia 2 have a special place in my heard. I've heard that they made a 3D version of the latter for the Nintendo DS, but as far as I'm concerned - the SNES version is the one I remember most fondly.

Besides STEAM, they did release Chrono Trigger on the Nintendo DS too. I finished it a few times - it was fun. :D

For those who haven't caught on, my profile name comes from 2 characters in those games,

chrono => based off Crono from Chrono Trigger
dekar => based off Dekar from Lufia 2 (for what its worth - I absolutely HATE his official out-of-game character portrait. Just hate the art style!)

If I'm reading the website right, the Steam version is the DS version + enhanced graphics + keyboard and mouse support + autosave.

Yeah, Chrono Trigger from the Steam is basically still the 1995 game with the extra content from the DS version (a dungeon, a colosseum, and some bells and whistles) and keyboard support IIRC.

Can't believe I forgot the big one...Final Fantasy VI (3 for SNES). I was honestly expecting it back in the DS days when Squaresoft remade both 3 and 4 with the chibi-3D graphics, and then they just...didn't. I would argue ever port re-release they've ever done since has made the game worse, be it in poorer sound, loading times, godawful character sprites, 'upresolution' that looks terrible, or oodles and oodles of glitches.

I'm looking forward to seeing reviews about Tactics Ogre. No idea what the game is about, but if they are re-releasing it, then it must be worth reading about, at least!

so the recent Nintendo Direct has shown off an HD remake/remaster of Super Mario RPG, hopefully with a lot of new content instead of a just direct 1-to-1 graphical remake and systems update of the original.

I hadn't realised it, but I guess Dragon Quest 3 is also getting the same treatment. Hopefully it gets some new areas and classes added, too.

Probably not. The game has been re-released and upgraded for a lot of platforms-- not solely Nintendo, but iOS, Android, and the PS4. At most some graphical enhancement and controls appropriate to the machine have been done.

The thing is, DQ III is considered the classic JRPG, well, that and Final Fantasy. It pretty much codified the entire series, and most of the games that followed for more than a decade, to the extent that many Japanese gamers in days past referred to almost all JRPGs ar "Doracue". (Much like people called all photocopiers "Xerox".) I rather suspect that adding new areas and classes would be considered not only unnecessary, but almost sacrilegious.
