[Worm] Absolutely Critical

Does Taylor's power work on other powers if she knows what they are?
Because it would be sort of funny if her power will know tell her how to kill Sophia with a phone.(basically wait till she's intagible, then stick it in her brain or heart)

I don't really want to spoil it much more.

The aftermath of the story so far from Taylor's perspective will be the final part of the chapter, then an interlude, as is the custom of the worm fic.

I don't recall Sophia actually being able to taken out that way. Electricity causes her to phase back in from the pain but I don't think that she'd instantly phase back in and get offed like that.
I wonder if thats a built in safeguard for her power or just something I totally missed the reveal of.

She is gaseous and electricity works as normal on her. Gas based attacks work even better on her.

So SSBB's Wario can beat her in a fight.
Still, not sure if you can just leave a phone in the spot where she'd phase in and expect it to work.

Speaking of phones; does Sophia's phone go intangible aswell?

It's more that she's intangible, so you can directly electrocute her internals.
Sticking the phone in her heart would give her a heart attack, and sticking it in her brain would fry her.

But she'd be shocked out of her shadow state as soon as her skin touched a wire in the phone.
I think.

It is true that Shadow Stalker can not move through wires or any material that is conducting electricity while in her shadow form without suffering extreme pain. This is countered in regards to cellphones, however, by the fact that anything she has on her person turns into gas with her when she uses her power. That means there is no electricity in her phone because it isn't a phone anymore, it is gas shaped like a phone. Trowing electric devices at her might work, however unless the device is tinker tech, I wouldn't suspect that it would have enough energy in it to seriously damage her. In cannon she was still walking after phasing into a house's power wire, so a phone would just sting something fierce.

While it is not stated in canon I think Sophia's issue with electricity is that it resists her power, not an absolute "can't affect an electrified object" that some fanfiction have. So her phone resists her power but she can take it with her, even if it takes a bit more effort, a bracelet with a wire charged with 1000V would be like trying to haull around a large iron ball.

Out of Love 1.5/End of Out of Love

I had been dreading this conversation for a long time. At that moment, looking at the floor as if in shame, I was just trying to get out of it without upsetting my father or worse.

I think he was almost as uncomfortable as I was with the subject.

“I don’t even know where to start. I mean, I knew something was going on, but you’re getting in fights with Wards and I think you wouldn’t have even told me if it wasn’t all over the news!” His voice rose as he went on, but he stopped himself and took a breath.

“I didn’t know she was… I mean…” I started weakly. I almost brought my eyes up, but I put them back towards the table at the last moment.

“Taylor, you should let me know when you need help. You should… let me be your father and not just your roommate.” He was holding his head in his hands. “I’m trying not to be angry with you. It feels like you’re cutting me out of your life for some reason. You won’t even look at me.”
I cringed.

“I just want to be there for you. I just want you to know that I’m here if you need me.” He sighed.

“I don’t… I mean, I know. I just didn’t think that it would help if…” I trailed off. He was hardly even listening.

I could do this. I could let him know that I still trusted him.

I slowly lifted my head, focused my eyes on his weary face.

Shove table. Stand. Kick table forwards. Upend table with both hands. Stomp flipped table. Injuries: …
I wrenched my head to the side before I could see the end.

He let out a choked gasp.

I stood and jerkily walked up the stairs to my bedroom and shut the door.

I heard the sound of his fist hitting the table.

I’m so sorry.

...this is awesome.

now I want this version of Taylor to fight Contessa just to see how long she'd last.

It'd probably result in the Sherlock vs Moriarty fight in A Game of Shadows. Only with Moriarty winning because thats what Contessa's shard does. Though Taylor would likely be able to see how Contessa would win and still not really be able to do anything about it.

Though for humor's sake, they could also just end up fighting so long with no real damage taken on either side. Eventually any spectators would get tired and walk off and both of the fighters would fall over exhausted with no clear winner.

It would be amazing that their respective powers neutralize each other when directly (and only directly) confronting each other, leaving them to a uncultured and dirty fist fight between each other, while having their same elegant and efficient brutality when fighting anyone else, even in the middle of the same battle.

sadly when I actually think about it, Taylor would lose.
Not because of Contessa's ability in itself.
But because both of their cape abilities are partially reliant on their own physical abilities. Their powers tell them what to do and they do it.
And I'm fairly certain that Contessa is in better shape and more physically capable. She's faster, stronger, and has more reach.

While Contessa is almost certainly in better shape, she probably doesn't have better reach. Taylor is noted in canon as being very tall, and thin.

And Taylor probably has a much higher pain tolerance.

Contessa's power would deny the need of higher pain tolerance as it could be used to do so.

Actually Taylor's stupidly high pain tolerance in canon was due to being hit by Bakuda's pain bomb. That hasn't happened in this story, and Taylor has limited experience with physical pain so Contessa might win there as well.
