Yourfanfiction.com apparently went down a few days ago. Which is annoying as a fairly good chunk of the fics that were purged from ff.net ended up there and nowhere else. <_<

It's not like we weren't warned about it. It had more members s flocking in from ffnet than they expected. it was suggested that they offset the maintenance charges by adding some ads, but that fell through. Maintaining the site was apparently taking up some of the admins time as well.

Makes you wonder how mediaminer and ficwad stay afloat.

You know who the worst offender is?

Kyuubi16

That idiot flooded the site with hundreds of trashy Naruto crossovers, where the title character (though its painfully clear that the Naruto in question is just a poorly disguised stand in for the author himself) gets together with girls from other series.

Not only were they trashy and unimaginative.....the sheer volume of his updates was burying the seriously good fics from getting the attention they deserved. :headbanger:

I hope it stays down. I checked it out and none of the fics on there were even worth shitting on. They all were lacking in some sense of story telling, whether it was in structure, pacing, premise, or dialogue. The fic distribution was also pretty terrible too. It might not have been yaoi/slash haven like on FF.net, but shitty story is shitty story even if it has the MC have tentacle dicks raping every female in sight.

On second thought, that kind of premise would probably make the story so bad it would actually cross the line back over to being a good story, so long as you're not trying to take it too seriously.

I also recall that a lot of the massive x-overs had like 10 or 20 less than stellar images loading in the summary, and I can't imagine that did the site any good. I mean, text is bandwidth lite, and I'm sure that's one of the ways the other fic sites keep things chill, but throw in images by the boatload like that and if they're loading direct from the site you have bandwidth cost issues, if you're hotlinking from the wrong places then you can have issues that way as well.
