Here's a good question for you Python453: how is the 'haters gonna hate' and other such insulting macros any DIFFERENT from a 'you fail!' post?

they, ultimately, do the same thing, which is to say 'I don't like what you're saying' in a rude way without actually explaining why. Which is why 'you fail!' posts were banned. Read hawk's first post in this very thread, and you should be able to see the macros I'M questioning about fall under the same problems as the 'you fail!' rule.

But, I doubt I'll get you to agree with me anyway, and its in the end up to what Hawk decides on the matter, eh?

Edit: Also, Vex, you don't seem to get that Hawk doesn't seem to care about what happens in PMs, he said it none of his business. Besides that, other than you acting juvenile in response, I do admit I don't have a large tolerance for bullshit. which is why when I was asking a damn question and you decided to act in a condescending manner, I responded rudely in a PM, but apparently you don't seem to get the point of why I didn't post it on the board: It has no place in the posts, only in private messages, my message was put where Hawk wants personal conversations: in a PM.

As for you posting it, wow, you seem to have no limits to wanting attention to show just how 'wronged' you are. And, to be brutally honest, I don't see where you're proving my message to you wrong.

I go here because I read fanfics and relevant discussions, not to wade through a bunch of stupid images that only cause the pages to load slower, and for me that can be a problem. And to be honest, I used to post quite a bit a while ago, I've just become more of a lurker in the past year or two. I still use this place to occasionally discuss ideas, post ideas, and (though I've hit a bit of a dry spell) sometimes post fanfics.

I don't appreciate being told to leave because I'm having a problem with people who, as far as I have seen, haven't contributed ANYTHING towards this site other than stupid 4chan macros. While cynical kyle might have actually added some worthwhile criticism or ideas, I've yet to see them.

Quite honestly, I find it rude that you're bitching to the entire forum of regulars and lurkers about maybe half a dozen people because you're butthurt.

The macros and idiocy are just as much of this forum as the fanfiction, and that's why it still goes strong despite it's admin abandoning it for years, despite other forums popping up, despite the fandom changing and evolving.

I don't particularly care if you don't like the various non-fanfiction that goes on here. It's just as much a part of the site as the fanfiction, and quite frankly and unoffensively, if you don't like it, you best go to another, smaller forum.

I'm sorry, but I do believe this all began with one question I was asking Hawk: if the macros in specific I was referring to would be under this rule.

I've already said its ultimately up to what Hawk has to say on the matter. If he agrees with you, oh well, I'll try harder to avoid the people that annoy me. If he finds that my belief on the similarities between the 4chan macros I have a problem with and the 'you fail!' posts is warranting that some macros are fine while others fall in the 'you fail!' category, then I'll be happy because I don't have to deal with the offending macros showing up any longer.

Because as Hawk says in his first post in this very topic, last sentence:

"So if you don't have anything more constructive then "You fail" to say, then don't fucking post a response!"

And that should amply apply to all of those 4chan macros designed for the SOLE purpose of annoying others without contributing anything to a discussion.

I've been a member of this forum for a good FOUR years now. I've participated in off topic posting on occasion, yes, I've had my occasional argument, and I've enjoyed my time on this forum. There's a lot of stuff I like reading on this forum and yes, I do occasionally have problems with other users.

However, apparently in the past year or two I've taken a bit more of a reserved role posting it seems that having problems is 'being butthurt' and that apparently its become TFF's policy to shut up and ignore problems because its 'not a big deal' and clarifying on a rule about something that bothers me means I don't have fun here at TFF and I should damn well shut the fuck up and get the fuck out because "That's How TFF is now" and I better well shut the fuck up and get with the program or there's the door.

And you know what? If you were Hawk saying this to me, I'd be more than satisfied. Its his forum after all, and what he says go. But you're NOT Hawk, so I'd appreciate you to stop acting like you had his authority and stop telling me what to do.

And, if you'd look above once more to the segment up there of Hawk's I quoted, I'd like you to mind the advice and shut the fuck up if you don't have anything other than "I fail because I'm asking the admin about a problem I have been having."

In fact, I'd wonder if telling someone to "stop being so butthurt" also counts under the 'you fail!' rule, because if that's all you've got to say, well, you're just there to be an asshole.

Also, while Kyle is indeed spamming pictures, and just pictures, and using it with a clear negative attitude in mind, he's also the only one currently doing it. Making it against the rules to post those pictures is like responding to a rainstorm by outlawing water in your district. Not only will it not solve the problem, but it just irritates everyone else.

The obvious solution to me is to just wait. I myself went through a phase of image and memespam. Maybe he just now got around to checking out 4chan. Maybe he found a meme archive somewhere. For me, it trickled off in a few weeks when I got bored with it, and eventually it became rather unfunny all around (though I still do it and laugh at it when others do it if the context is good enough. LET ME CONFIRM; U MAD is a lot funnier if you do it once in response to a massive tl;dr rant. It loses it's appeal if you just post that over and over again in lieu of having any sort of actual counterpoint).

I say we give him time. If he's still doing it by this time next month, then we can talk about a more realistic and simple solution called "banning Cynical Kyle."

You know, that was a fair and reasonable argument, and you have many valid points. I can't find myself disagreeing too much, because I have found myself amused by some macro posts like the occasional Souffle post here and there.

Image macros remind me of a quote I once read regarding wit. "Wit should be the nibble of a lamb, not the bite of a wolf." I feel that it applies here as well. Image macros are fun and amusing. Used occasionally, or even the once-in-a-while spam, they can be funny, amusing, or even sometimes insightful.

But if you just keep using them over and over and over again, people start wishing Stab Across The Internet technology existed.

Or to put it much simpler, all things in moderation. That includes memes and image macros. Used when genuinely appropiate, or even the occasional binge, is fine. It's only when you grab onto an archive of them and surf it across the faces of every other unfortunate poster in the forum that it becomes a problem. Which is kind of what Kyle is doing.

But I can forgive that, as it's kind of an internet phase. If he keeps doing it, now, then we've got ourselves a problem. But we don't have that problem yet, so I see no reason to be concerned at the moment.

I'm guilty as charge of pics but I'm trying to cut them down or just keep them to my threads cause a few people raised it a while ago about how their internet connections are suffering.

I'm sad about it to, to be honest. But like it or not, Hawk's word is effectively law.

If Size is the issue I could always tinker with it more without cutting out all of the good bits.

But if Content is, there's unfortunately nothing that can really be done without ruining the picture.
