Young Justice

Corporate reasons mostly I presume. I imagine they don't want to expand the size of the DC nation block or DC is unwilling to let them do so or something an they've got two new DC cartoons coming up soonish. Though as one of them is a Teen Titans continuation that might be a reason as well, I don't know.

And things start to turn.

Good thinking from Arsenal, and finally someone call the Reach on its ships. Good Job, Godfrey... never thought I'd say that.

The episode nicely sets up Arsenal and the Runaways and frees up Mongul for a rematch sometime... which is why it's such a shame this is the last season.

Sidenote: That was so not the moment to take Arsenal off the team.
Indeed--Nightwing needs to learn to control his mouth. Dirty laundry doesn't need to be aired in front of everyone.

Honestly, this is a big problem for Nightwing in general--he opens his mouth when he should shut it and closes it when he should open it.

Why are they canceling the show? I thought it was doing well?
The toy line was cancelled a while back, which might have something to do with it.

Sadly, this is the most logical and valid answer. Hell, it seems that even the production staff for YJ have used that answer to explain the cancellation.

Pretty much. CN put it on hiatus several times, for months, in the middle of both seasons, and then people wonder why it has trouble getting ratings. CN was apparently annoyed that they needed to pay another company owned by their own parent company for the DC Nation shows, and took it out on those shows - and WB didn't tell them 'Hey, cut that shit out,' so they got away with it.

The only way we're going to see more of YJ is if WB decides to drop the hammer on CN, or a shakeup at DC causes the YJ comic to get extended.

Y'know that is a real pity especially in light of the way the show is progressing. It's well written the characters are actually changing and developing over time, and its got plenty of action. I enjoyed yesterday's episode.

Actually.

Since ratings are public and anyone can look at them if you know where to look, we know that, in complete and utter spite of the constant hiatus and schedule changes, YJ is still one of the highest rated shows on CN.

It won an Emmy, and is the only currently running show on CN to do so.

This move makes no sense but on the emotional level, which is a level that shouldn't be involved in business decisions.

Pretty much. The show was doing good. But CN likes to sabotage its good shows.

CN thinks that just because one of its good shows is comedy (Adventure Time), they should all be comedy, and that's wrong on multiple levels.

On this week's episode, Blue is back and a bit too easily. The Scarab sabotaging itself worked well and puts a new light on its past actions... but it would have been better with a bit more build up.

I always seemed to think that CN didn't really care so much about ratings. With thier shows they want to build a brand they can push in more areas than just TV like games and merchandise.

...

If I had to choose between an annoying orange video game, and a YJ videogame, guess who wins.

If I had to choose between a gumball toy and a YJ toy? Gonna go with the YJ toy.

It's also obvious which one would cost more and therefore which one would turn the biggest profit. From a business angle this is another terrible move from Cartoon Network. I guess the executives still think that cartoons are for little kids.

While true, you also need to factor in Copyright shenanigans. Keep in mind, to even be able to show something like Young Justice there are an absurd number of legal procedures that need to be done to get the rights to every character that shows up to be able to use them on the show.

The same would be true for any merchandizing if they're even allowed to do so at all, and you can bet your ass DC probably want's a cut of that shit. Depending how the negotiations fell down it could be easily possible that any profit CN makes would be significantly less than a more original show they normally run, drastically inferior though it might be.

Except that one of the new incoming shows is the Teen Titans sequel. While it probably doesn't have the wide variety of characters that Young Justice does, there's still a good number. So DC copyright shenanigans probably isn't the reason for dropping one DC title and putting up another.

Recent episode was as good as always. I did wonder what Jaime was experiencing when his scarab turned.

Depends, like I said, these sorts of meetings can happen ALL kinds of ways. Ultimately boils down to how the negotiations end up and who gets the bummer deal. Copyrights, much like a lot of legal jargon is a complete mess like that sadly.

That is true. I recall the Batman Beyond episode with the future Justice League. The creators wanted to have Wonder Woman among them, but internal DC issues came up with licensing, so they used Big Barda instead.

And wasn't that a quick turnabout.

Almost too quick really. Would really have liked a bit more build up (got to admit, Rah's ripping out Artemis amulet like that really shocked me).

The Reach is crippled but Black Beetle is now in charge of things. The Light did take a loss this time but they didn't lose anything that important.

Kind of sad for Black Manta and Aqualad. It's got to be hard being a hero when your dad is all badass and awesome despite being a villain. And third person speaking. That was amusing.

Next time, the last episode. Such a shame.

There was this whole 'You can't use her!' thing with WW for a while. It's why Artemis even exists in YJ. They couldn't use WW in the beginning. It was because... movie business IIRC?

Mind you, that really doesn't have anything to do with why YJ is getting cancelled. Sabotaging good shows because they don't fit with what the CN executives think is 'cool' nowadays is business as usual for CN.

Now, Spectacular Spider-Man, That was copyright issues.

Damn you, Disney.

Sadly this can be applied to every Network nowadays.

welp, just watched the last episode, it is the last right? It was GOOD. They packed a LOT in there to the point that I thoguht the episode might have covered almost everything by the 15 minute mark. And yes, someone does join the team adn most of the plot points are wrapped up. EXCEPT FOR THE STINGER! gaaahhhh that stinger. It makes me weep that there won't be another season it truly does.

Much like the episode before this felt rushes, understandable given the circumstances though.

I'm really disappointed in the final Blue vs Black fight. That said the "I'm sufficient" was a badass moment.

In any case, most of the plot was tied up rather neatly and some new thing got set up that will unfortunately not see a resolution... unless someone decides to write a really good fanfic.

Spoilers below and all that:

Why is it always the speedster? Why Wally? :blue:

Also Tim/Cass out of nowhere.

All in all a good show. A damn good one. Shame to see it go.
