England win 3-0, setting up a quarter final with France.

No red or yellow cards for England yet, which is quite the disciplinary record for a major tournament.

Been contemplating picking up a cheap HAM radio for the cars, a handheld unit and dash clamp. Idea is to use it as a cheap scanner and program it with the MURS, FRS, GRMS, NOAA, and then Police, Emergency Fire, Government channels for my county. Not for broadcast, merely monitoring and scanning.

Something like: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08P4P3ZG1/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_2?smid=A39FQA149TJD8E&psc=1
Just understand that most police departments use sets of frequencies now, with the voice data either broadcast along sidebands, or they use one band for general communication and use one of the sideband sets for communication that they don't want the criminals they're chasing to hear. TLDR; you may not actually be able to hear the police, depending on what system they use.

Well... I don't intend on doing anything to draw police attention, any other for that matter, so if cannot listen in to them I'm not going to be overly bothered.

Been contemplating this idea off and on for some time. Alternatively, old time CB radio would not be bad, but the issue with that is it is used less and less, and not as many channels to monitor on the 11m bands.

Also, in other news of a more personal nature today I turn 50... I'm now 5 decades old....

Happy birthday, man!

If not the oldest, you're definitely up there either way. :p

A belated Happy Birthday PCHeintz72! It's good to know that folks older than me love reading fanfiction. Among my family social circles, folks just think me odd for having such a hobby.

Happy belated birthday man! That'll show me to disappear for over a week. Don't feel bad, I'm only about 6 months behind you in the age department. Almost as gray as my avatar, sadly...

I didn't think you were going to do nefarious things with your radio, but I did want to point out why they do what they do in case you had problems with reception.

Oh no, the Sierra Mist brand of soda is gone.

TBF, I've switched exclusively to store brands on the occasions I buy soda for myself, so I can't really bring myself to care. The only time I don't go with the lower-priced stuff is when I'm at a fast food outlet, where soda machines are all either Coca-Cola or Pepsi brands.

Store brands are often just as good tasting as brand name stuff, and so cheaper (usually). I've been using powdered flavoring mix to make my own drinks, as it's cheaper than buying soda. Though I do occasionally buy some store brand stuff.

I've taken to buying fruit syrups from a local Polish shop instead of buying sodas.

That said, I made an apple syrup at the weekend. Apple juice, agave nectar, carob syrup and some spices. It was a bit like an apple pie.

I might make some grenadine this weekend.

I keep being reminded that every time I drink, I seem to have the compulsive urge to clean up my house. So maybe I need to drink more!

Also realizing I didn't make a New Years 2023 topic...

Personally, I like cleaning in general and reorganizing in particular, but I hate dusting...

Whew... was a bit worried there.

Glad to see the forum up and running again. I assume the brief outage due to certificate failure or server time was corrected? I was unable to get in earlier and was told that it was due to certificate not being configured correctly or the server time was off...

@PCHeintz72 Could be daylights savings screwing with things, you never know how that will mess with machines and people.

I had thought it might be, but was uncertain. And as far as I've seen no one on the forum moderation team has mentioned a actual cause...

Huh. "The Phantom of the Opera" is ending its run on Broadway next year, after its 35th anniversary. It's been such a fixture that it's a bit odd to think that it'll no longer be around. (Seriously, the thing's been running longer than I've resided in the US.) Between this and the announced retirements of Serena Williams and Roger Federer, I'm really feeling my age.
Oh, gods, this is coming up this weekend. Officially the end of an era.

Heard about that a few months ago... that and CATS were THE big musicals going on while I was in high school... Those are two I'll miss when they go.

Well... last week got my mail in ballot for the Ohio special election, and mailed it back the next day. Found out it processed today... Yea!!! now I no longer have to deal with voting until November.

The August special election was not even supposed to be a thing in Ohio any more, the Republicans whom control the state currently had actually decided there would not be any more of them... until a couple months ago they realized they had a issue on the ballot in November they wanted to insure would fail... that changed their minds, they actually are attempting to push a bill through the August election to make it harder for citizens to change laws, or even introduce law changes on ballots, such as the one coming up in November. That peice of idiocy insured I would apply for the August election mail in ballots to make sure I do my part to insure that piece of atrocity does not pass....

They've been advertising heavily how great it would be if this August bill pases and makes it harder for citizens to change laws.
