Your Daily...Thing!

Had to reinstall my Windows due to an update cocking up rendering my install completely FUBAR.
It screwed up my networking so certain programs couldn't get online and broke local streaming from my PC, and basically nuked everything Windows related. Including the Update manager, any form of recovery, and the Advanced Startup Screen.
This means I couldn't just roll back. None of the usual scans and auto repair things worked of course.
Weirdly, Windows would still launch fine and I could still do most things. I could go online with a web browser, access most of my files, but all of my Windows Apps with the exception of file explorer were dead, the icons had disappeared. I couldn't even open the settings menu without a weird workaround involving right clicking on the search bar and opening the taskbar settings and then using the Home tab to get there. I also couldn't use the search bar, it was there, but I couldn't type anything into it. The Run command worked fine though. I also had to actually go into System32 to access cmd.exe.
I couldn't even download Windows or Repair it using the Windows Media Creation Tool. I had to use another PC to download the ISO, use Rufus to format it for UEFI, and reinstall from my BIOS.
I ended up having to wipe the drive, which wasn't so bad as I could easily back up everything because I could still access it, and most of my files aren't on my Windows OS Drive anyway. I install very little there to begin with. Even if Windows had completely broken beyond the point of launching, I'd have still been able to access everything to back it up because of my Linux alt-boot. I use Linux for most things that aren't playing video games, and sometimes even that.
All in all, it was a huge pain in the ass, but actually took less time than a lot of times I've previously had to reinstall Windows.

Well after a long l hiatus due to work kicking my ass with a shit load of overtime constantly it looks like I’m back again this time since I can’t work for several months due to an injury.

I got attacked at work by an inmate as I came to the aid of a sergeant being attacked. As I pulled him off my sergeant, he got mad about that attacked me and he completely shattered my leg below the knee

Hey look I even made the news

I’ll probably post the pics of the hardware they put in me if y’all want.

Damn dude, glad the injury wasn't somewhere more serious. Hope recovery goes okay, and y'all get back in the game when you can.

Look after yourself, mate. This is the sort of injury that requires proper care and rehabilitation.

In other, slightly happier news: I'm going to be helping out a local brewery today. If it goes well, and I don't mess up too much, they might listen to some of my terrible ideas for making booze. Ideas for beers.

Which might have an anime inspiration in either their name or their flavour profile.

I’m trying to take care of myself the best I can and following all of my doctors orders, I want to go back to work when I’m healed up.

If there was any doubt as to my idiocy, I have put my name forward for the chair of my local Camra branch. That's Camra as in the Campaign for Real Ale.

Camra was set up to counter the perceived low quality of beers and beer option in the UK during the 1970's. Apparently, our options were limited to a few big breweries. And the spread of chilled lager, while refreshing on hot days, doesn't exactly treat the taste buds.

Add in my current assistance with a local brewery, and suddenly I have lost a lot of my spare time for writing.

I realise that I've made a terrible mistake, but our branch has been going for nearly 15 years now, so it'd be a shame for us to be reabsorbed into a larger branch. So it looks like we're going to be going for one last year as I run the branch into the ground with my tyranny.

Okay, so I was going through some of my mom's things that didn't realize I had, and came across these:

Can someone confirm these are military rank insignia? I ask because my mom wasn't military, and the only place I've rank insignia upcole is in comics (Sgt. Rock, to be precise).

Those are US Army Sergeant chevrons. E-5 rank. They're upside down, the point goes up.

Ah, I see. Thanks!

I get into the parking lot at work this morning, and I'm sitting in my car, when I hear an argument a few rows behind me.

I later found out that a tow truck tried to remove a car that was parked overnight, and found two people in the back having sex.

SMH, Florida. SMH.

Just what is it about Florida that makes its population so crazy?

I don't think it's the heat and/or humidity, as I'm led to believe that Louisiana has a similiar climate. Arizona is hotter and Texas has such variable weather that if you don't like what you've got now, wait an hour and it'll change.

They don't have the reputation for inbreeding that other southern states have.

Do they have a problem with drugs in the water supply?

I wouldn't say Florida has a monopoly on bugfuck nuts in the deep south, its just more prevalent in the media. I live in South Carolina an i can tell you I've seen and heard of some weird shit on the level of some of the stuff that comes out of Florida.

Apparently, Florida has rather intense transparency laws-- that is, the way the law is set up there, it's easier for the odder reports to actually get to the news in the first place. I'm not sure of the details.

But that results in it being more likely that the batshit loony wahoo in the tutu declaring himself the Emperor of All Gerbils will be immediately reported in Florida than in other states, where the incident might be delayed until the doctors have had a chance to look at him and the news gets stale. Florida Crazy gets reported while it's still fresh.

Not that that explains what NanuNanu14 experienced, but there's a part of it.

Had a crappy couple of days.

Possibly wrote off my car driving back from Scotland on Sunday. Then today, I fractured three bones in my left hand at work.

Then this afternoon, I dropped my phone because I can't hold things properly.

I might get signed off from work for a couple of weeks, but I can't type with a single hand. I find it frustratingly slow to type like that so I'm not sure I will be able to work on my fics.

Make sure you heal well, and forget about your fics for now. There is a time and place for everything.

That's the only advice I can give you. I wish you all the best in your recovery.

Brief update:

Signed off work for four weeks. X-ray next week yo check things are going well. A week after that, they should put me in a new cast with more mobility for my fingers.

It looks like it's only the screen protector that's damaged on my phone, so that's some good news.

Hope you heal up okay. Glad to know it wasn't too serious an injury.
