Your Daily...Thing!

As somebody from the UK, he hasn't damaged the UK/US relationship at all. Honestly, Obama and Pelosi have done more to harm the UK/US relationship than Trump. Obama told the UK they'd be "At the back of the queue" if we left the EU, whereas Trump has shown a willingness to open a trading deal with us, and Pelosi just recently came out against the UK Brexit negotiations.

Just because the BBC and London's Mayor don't like, doesn't mean he's worsened relationships between our countries.

Trump has shown a willingness to open a trading deal with us
If you're expecting him to offer or accept any kind of deal that isn't cartoonishly damaging to the UK, you're in for a dissapointment.

Probably a better deal than we'll get from the EU, who are trying to force us to accept all their laws, and require their permission when we implement new laws of our own, unrestricted access to our fishing waters, which they have been selling off to Russia recently. I don't see how any deal with Trump, who has businesses in the UK so probably benefits, either way, could do anything worse.

The response in here (forum) and on the discord reminds me of why it is so *hard* to talk about the subject - there are those with the opinion that Trump's the devil incarnate and there are others who think differently. I have not met *anyone* (online or offline) who thinks Trump is a clean politician. But the fervor with which people respond with rebukes to *any* kind of support/sympathy feels extreme. Especially when I can remember that it *never* happened with Obama. There are other "world leaders" who are known to commit war crimes far in excess of what Trump has ever done - why do they not get this kind of push-back? We might have a bully in the neighbourhood - but I'd prefer that to the murderer in the next block.

American or not - I think everyone is allowed their opinions on a leader (be one foreign or otherwise).

On the matter of bringing up politics in a fanfiction forum ... well, this is the general daily thing thread isn't it? Regardless, I can understand that its not something folks come in here for. Besides this post - I'll speak of this topic no-longer (and why there is a spoiler block above - feel free to read it if you care for my opinion or feel free to ignore it).

In other words, just be happy you have Trump and not the CCP, and their concentration camps.

Also, is it just me, or does it seem like most of TFF is on the Discord Server, and not on the forum anymore?

It's not just you. I'm reasonably sure that Lord Raa and I are the only ones who have posted any chapter here recently. I have crossposted them, even if I post here first, so I'm not sure if I count.

Only a few readers and other participants left, too.

I'm responsible for bringing that orange fart in here, and this is the last time I'll say anything about him. Sorry, but these 4 years has been draining to me and I'd really like to see it stop.

As for me, I'd cheerfully go back to the blissful ignorance I enjoyed all those years ago...when Trump didn't become president. The only thing I'd known him for was that he was a rich dude who didn't know what to do with his money from Apprentice. That's it.

Then the jackass became the President of the United States. Now I know all too much about him. This is the biggest UNFUNNY joke the entire human race has had to endure these past 4 years, and I want it to end.

If Trump being personally responsible for the deaths of 198 thousand American citizens (and counting, and those numbers are definitely being underrepresented.) isn't enough to get him kicked out, there's no hope for you guys. America will be effectively dead. And the rest of the world will suffer for it.

That's how I see it. I get it, a lot of you guys aren't even American's, and don't care what happens there. The reason I care is because who's right next door to us, and while Russia hasn't really done anything truly overt yet...well, their actions prior hasn't inspired confidence.

So yeah...I'm hoping that this shit show will end by next year. But I know that America isn't out of woods yet. Not until Republicans lose the Senate and Moscow Mitch gets the boot, too.

So good luck to all the American's here. We're all going to need it.

Honestly, at this point, I'm not really sure there's anything we can really do to get anything moving again. We need more active members, but how do we get more members when there's no incentive to participate in what increasingly looks to be a dead forum?

Can we not? We're short on members as it is. The last thing we need is the few remaining members immigrating to Discord.

In fact, the old link I was originally given for it does not even work.... that is one of the reasons I don't go there.

But to be frank... I checked it out back when it was issued... and I just don't understand discord... and I really did not see any appeal to it over a normal forum experience

We need new members, we need new fanfics, and overall we just need new content in general.

Frankly, I tried Discord, I was on Menios's discord for his RWBY dating sim for a bit, but I hate OC/Main Character ships, so I stopped going to it. Discord just seems like a chatroom or a group Facebook Messanger. I kind of see why people would use it, I just prefer forums.

Now if we could get people to add the forum URL to the bottom of any new fics/chapters they post on ff.net, we might be able to get some new blood. Hopefully.

I tried, but it ate the link no matter how I posted it. I gave it up as a bad job and posted the link on another forum instead, where they at least don't have an automatic link filter.

Can't you replace the . with , ?

Spaces maybe? I've seen people put Patreon links in there before, so there's obviously a way to do it... I've got it on my Profile page for now, but I'll definitely find a way to add it to the end end of the current story I'm working on.

So I'm idly tracking a FedEx Smartpost package on its way to my place, and the route it's taking leaves me leaves me a bit o_O. Since it's Smartpost, I'm not sure if I should blame FedEx or the USPS for the route--originated in Delaware, journeyed across Pennsylvania, and is currently in a facility in West Virginia. Except I live in Maryland. Which is, uh, right next door to Delaware.

I think it's that last bit that has me bemused, as instead of going directly south from Pennsylvania and into Maryland, the carrier shipped the package...southwest into neighboring West Virginia?

I actually had the same problem with USPS. A package ordered off ebay went from Phoenix, Arizona to San Jose, California, to San Francisco, to Bakersfield, to Oakland, then finally to me. I live ~50 miles from San Fran. I remember looking at the tracking and wondering if the drivers were drunk.

It's the packages going to major sort centers in their route, packages rarely ever go directly to destinations until their last 2 or 3 stops.

Huh. I thought packages were sent to nearest sort center to the final destination.

No, it depends entirely on the flight schedules for which major distribution points are laid out, so a package could well bounce around a bit in a seemingly erratic and even seemingly idiot manner, but actually be quite logical if you know the flight schedules.

A package from say a warehouse in Los Angeles California to a house in Cleveland Ohio might well pass through several sites. It might for example show status at Texas, then Michigan, then Toledo then Cleveland, then the local post office, then the house. Because there might not be either a direct flight or it might not have a timely flight... or it may well be more efficient from a mass/bulk packaging shipment standpoint.

If you were to order the same thing, from the same site, a month later, it may well pass through a completely different set of distribution sites, depending on again both the flight schedules and what makes more sense from an efficiency standpoint for mass/bulk packaging shipment standpoint at the time.

Thanks for the info. Never actually thought too much about it.

...and then add in the fact that the company that you ordered from may have multiple warehouses from which your package is shipped depending on which one currently has stock, and you have a migraine inducing roller coaster ride which ends with the us just praying to the heavens that the package makes it there, nevermind on time.

True, though I was assuming a simple example of it leaving the same warehouse both times.

In other news... I've been working from home since March, and until this week it was to be officially the case until at least January next year at the discretion of each individual employee, with upper management dropping hints that it could be allowed until July as long as productivity keeps up. The office itself was on minimal capacity so even if we wanted we would not all be allowed back in, though almost no one has actually bothered to work at the office.

However, the company decided the other day to eliminate the local office entirely, and almost all the workers, including myself, will be working from home permanently. Now, we are going in for a final lunch and meeting together and to clear any remaining items from desks and storage.
