My portfolio didn't really move much over the last few days. I was expecting some extreme volatility.
I'm waiting for the actual announcement of a winner. I've noticed some fluctuations in the last week and a half, but right now I'm only a little short of where I was two weeks ago.

The real problem, is the stock exchange/wall street, which is what Trump uses as his only barometer for how the economy is going, is not really where it should be and is considered by many to be artificially inflated, most experts believe it is going to eventually bounce back, as it cannot sustain itself at its current levels. The problem is they do not know when that is going to occur or what might finally cause it. Warren Buffet equated it to a ticking clock with its hands removed. You know it is going to go off, but not when. when it does, stocks and 401k's are going to be hit hard.

I expect it to be (counter-intuitively) when things open up some more and people get back to work. A lot of the money in the stock market now is money from people still working who don't have daily activities, wasteful stuff, or vacations to do now throwing money in their portfolio instead.

Hmmm...

Last year, I had made several large scale renovations to house related items (including new roof/gutters).

This year, I've been using this year to lower my overall debt and restructure my finances and accounts to be more flexible. I've paid off all my credit cards, and my equity loans, and while not quite there yet, I also expect to pay my auto loan off early, and been banking the rest.

Next year, plan on looking into a house wide generator and some concrete work on the driveway done.

I would never, in all my life, expect to see this.

So, I've got a bonus from work and I'm pondering what to treat myself with.

My most recent terrible idea is a sous vide kit. Does anyone have any experience with these? Are there any pitfalls I should look out for? Will this end up gathering dust in my already messy house? Can I make soup this way?

This is the first time I'm hearing of a sous vide kit - so, no idea. :/ But my soup needs I just use a regular pot. Or sometimes my rice cooker (I like eating rice).

I've always preferred my steaks barbecued or grilled -- exposed to great heat for a short time, in general. Note: steak in particular, not all meat.

Check with any shops that deal with standby generators. For example, there's a shop by my house that has some natural gas and diesel powered generators that came from the cell phone towers.

2020 is nearly at an end. Unless something even funnier happens, I'm ready to declare that the most hilarious moment of the year is that time the Toronto Maple Leafs, a professional hockey organisation, literally lost a game to a 42-year old zamboni driver

I would NOT make soup that way. I don't believe they would develop the flavor. Also, the gelatin that is pulled from the bones won't dissolve.

Basically, they sous vide technique is best for cooking foods to a max of 180F/82C and the food has to be physically separated from the cooking water, normally in a plastic bag. It's best for perfect cooked/temperature meats because the food temp will never exceed the temp of the water it's bathing in and the juices are kept in the meat because of the slow cooking rate. Even if you can cook to a higher temperature, I personally wouldn't. I just am not a fan of cooking in plastic, due to the chemicals that can leech out of plastic into foods at higher temperatures using fats as the interfacing.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm missing being able to go to buffets. Especially the Indian buffets with white-man levels of spiciness food.

I actually prefer their usual levels of spices. :)

My tolerance is probably in the 20k range of Scoville units. I can eat jalapenos easily, but cayenne peppers are where my eyes start to water.

Wait. Jalapenos are meant to be spicy? Welp, you learn something new every day.

I had a fairly chilly Christmas. -27°C, ignoring even the windchill

Ignore windchill at your own peril.
Oh, I don't mean I'm ignoring the windchill. I meant that even before I include the windchill, just the air temperature itself is already brutally cold.

Some more days since in that temperature range. My car didn't even start yesterday after going 5 days without driving :( Had to boost it first.
