And thus, you can face the world knowing that 31 years of accumulated wisdom resides within you. Go for it! :D

I'll use my 31 years of accumulated wisdom to buy a house this year in Canada...a part of Canada that isn't southern Ontario or B.C. o_O

I was so bored on my last night shift. that I started to actually read through the annual report filings that get sent to me for the stonks I own.

Through all the legalese, parts of them are at least moderately interesting. Still, I had to be really bored to get to that point.

I really worry for the U.S. mail system. And am so glad I spent time at the end of February and beginning of March switching everything I could to on-line and auto pay options (I had recieved a couple bills in a row almost too late to pay in time due to the slowness of mail).

Reason: Today (March 29th) in my mail.
- I got notice the *2nd* stimulus was sent to me... that I actually had depositied back on Jan 4th...
- I got official notice from my bank the equity loan I completely paid off and closed down back in January was paid off... 2 months late....

Good grief... Thanks Postmaster Louis Dejoy... not!

I was watching TV and saw an advertisement from my government. The gist of it was "stay at home and be safe".

-SNIP-
This is what the Alberta government put out

Rolls eyes... everyone has to take this to such extremes...

This is not really genius level thoughts on safety. For middle to bigger gatherings especially, simply do what should be common sense. Get the vaccination shots. Wear masks if possible. Avoid unneeded touching. Have soap or hand sanitizer on hand.

It is certainly still possible to hold parties, just take a sensible approach. IMHO all a advertisement like that would do is either breed scorn or fear.

Nevertheless, between spring break and Easter holiday... there is almost certainly going to be payback in the form of another spike. That statement is also obvious, not because I have a negative outlook on it, but because so many people are *not* doing obvious. And we know now from the last year, after pretty much any national holiday, there is going to follow with a spike. We proved it with New Years, with Christmas, with Thanksgiving, with Labor day, Memorial Day, and Independence day, and Easter last year... each had a spike afterward.

I'm merely hoping with so many people at least partially vaccinated, it will be partially blunted.... With the idiocy going on in public I have my doubts that will be the case.

Edit1: I myself am currently partially vaccinated... Received my 1st dose March 27th... with get the 2nd dose April 17th.

Edit2: Today, got a new cat, well, new to us, picked this one up at a pet place. 9 months old, named Nicky...

Yup. Far too much politicization and not nearly enough listening to the experts. You know, then ones who are went to college for and are multi-decade specialists in their fields? Ugh. Then when they have to revise their data because of the aforementioned idiocy, the idiots see it as confirmation they were right that the experts didn't know what they were talking about. *sighs* I agree with your assertion that the commercial could cause problems, but I'm also finding the older I get that far too many people aren't able/don't care to make nuanced decisions so the only way to get them to listen is visual blunt force. If they wanted to get people to really listen they should broadcast the last few minutes of a person dying from this, alone, in a hospital bed. This bug causes people to die of pulmonary fibrosis, which is a damaging/hardening of the air sacs in the lungs which then cause the lungs to fill with fluid. The same thing can be caused by immune response to lung cancer, which is what caused my mom's case a decade and a half ago. It's a slow, miserable, gurgling, suffocating death, but she at least had loved ones around her.

I'm pretty much on the same vax schedule as you, with my second shot coming up in less than two weeks. I just hope enough people get vaccinated before the idiots incubate a variety that forces us to start all this over again, or a worse one that has a much higher mortality rate. The newer variants are already MUCH better at infecting people, especially kids and 20-somethings, so... yeah.

Good luck with the new cat. Hopefully he's not a big shedder around all your tech.

People are stupid, something something Surprised Pikachu Face. Unfortunately, some of my relatives are like that.

My first shot's in two days, my second at the end of the month.

Gonna be fully vaccinated just in time for the new puppy I'm getting, which is nice.

It has been a long weekend for me. Not only in the Easter weekend sense, but also because I have worked hard at my second job at a local brewery.

I have been brewing an experimental rum and raisin porter. It didn't quite go as planned, but I think it will still be drinkable, if not quite how I expected it to go.

Today I was barreling the beer I helped make last weekend. Now all I have to do is sell it to the pubs that are free of tie to any major brewery

The counterpoint to this is that according to official statistics, there are far more people who've recovered vs those who've died. That is not to say we should not take this virus seriously - but there is a difference between a disease with a 99%+ fatality and what we have.

Me personally? I'm following the official directive and mostly staying at home ... but it *is* exhausting. VERY exhausting. My advice to anyone: follow the official directive from your authorities. Those numbskulls were voted into power for the explicit purpose of allowing them to make these kind of decisions. If you don't like it, vote for someone else next election, but it *is* important to follow local health guidelines!

For that matter, it *is* important to rant about guidelines you disagree with too! (this is *not* a suggestion to actually _disobey_ local health guidelines!)

This is what the Alberta government put out

Even more befuddling ... I do not understand the advertisement. :/ Oh well.

I don't follow politicians in regards to health and science.... I tend to follow the the consensus of experts in the respective field... in this case, experts like CDC and NIAID. There are also infectious disease experts scattered across the country, including as one example the University of Toledo Medical Center...

So... whom has more knowledge on health subjects, people whom spent their lives fighting infectious diseases, or a politician....

While I agree on far less dying of this than surviving, one point I would make is why risk getting a disease that even if you do survive it and don't die, could leave you with permanent health issues, since some have permanent lung, heart, and even a few brain damage.... to me, that risk is more than wort a little precaution and safety...

What bothers me the most about these lockdown discussions is the utter disregard for criticism about these measures. At a basic level, its a freedom of speech matter.

If the folks in power issue a legally-valid order to have a lockdown, I'll follow it and suggest others to do the same. If government officials want to listen to Doctor ABC and not Quack XYZ to make these decisions, that's their choice.

Just because I'm obeying the lockdown order, does not mean I agree with all of it. There are parts I disagree with, will say so and encourage others to whine/complain too.

But to disobey a legal order? No, that is a step too far and I will oppose that. We need to be a civil society - not anarchy!

Hmm...

Regarding the law... I can agree with that. I am for everyone obeying local laws in place.. But at least in the U.S., depending where one lives that is actually less harsh than listening to the doctors.

Regarding any lack of criticism... At least on my part if anything, I am more put out with the politicians fighting such measures in place and the recommendations of doctors, rather than with ones accused of going too far. I do *not* view this as a *rights or political or free speech* issue, I view this as a *medical health* issue. I mostly approve of social distancing and mask wearing and washing hands as safety precautions. I guess any 'passiveness' or lack of criticism on my part in regards to criticizing such measures is the simple fact I'm not in a position to be overly affected by them any more.

I'm probably in the minority... but except a few items. My situation is actually probably better now than a year ago because of the pandemic. I've actually had a mostly happy year, partially because of the changes forced on us. Work, Shopping, Saving, Health, Stress. All those areas are mostly better for me now.

Regarding work... I am because of this pandemic now a home based employed since my company eliminated the location I was based out of as a cost cutting measure. My job as a programmer means I never really did much people interaction at work anyway. And thanks to both my job being spelled out by several managers in recent reviews and discussions is secured at least tentatively until 2027 based on current company plans. And per our latest numbers, we've actually still managed a slight profit this last year over expense, even if they were down slightly from a normal year.

Regarding shopping... Much of my shopping has always been bulk warehouse stores and on-line buying, and also using mail order for medications means less trips to local stores and pharmacies. Since I was already doing this to a good degree it as not a big deal to increase the amount done that way.

Regarding saving... Due to the issues with the mail system in the U.S. (thanks Louis Dejoy, not!), I've moved most of my billing to auto pay and paperless to avoid delays, and did other cost cutting measures. Meaning less actual receiving or sending out of mail, or dropping off items at post box, or worry about late bills. I am also saving on gas, saving on wear and tear on car, I have no commute to work, and have made great strides in improving my credit scores, my finances, and even saving on stamps (due to mail changes). Even clothing bills have gone down.

Regarding health... My health in the last few months has improved a bit per my doctor. I'm in separate news about to have my 2nd vaccination shot on Saturday, which is another plus. Though I could wish to lose more weight (the consequences of being shut in during pandemic & winter).

Regarding stress... Combined with the many other changes, with the recent switch in political power in the U.S. (even if I do have a few reservations about Biden in charge), I'm actually sleeping easier at night than I did with the prior administration. Not really too much to complain about other than the outright lies and idiocy in news.

In summary... As said, mostly better off now. Of course, all of the above is at is at least in part because I've always been a bit of a shut in, though never a complete hermit. I've always preferred quiet nights reading and watching TV to going out. That likely means I adapted far easier than many.

The only things I've had to do were upgrades to my internet speed, and to my home office space. Both minor annoyances that I probably would have eventually done anyway.

Battery in my truck died, now I'm waiting on AAA to either jump me, or put in a new one.

It's ~7 years old, and it's the first 'hot' day down here.
I do not know where you are at offhand, but 7yrs for a battery is about normal, at least in OH, had to replace the on in my mom's Volkswagen Tiguan 2 years ago, and when I had my Subaru Legacy, at age 7 it also needed replacing.

That's good news!

I'm probably looking at June for mine in Canada. I haven't gone to another community in over a year now (I leave town to go to provincial park, skiing, and swimming, and that's been about it).

Got my second shot last Thursday. Immune system decided to wait a couple days before mounting the revolt, likely due to my immunosuppressants. No fever, but I feel like someone sucked every ounce of energy out of me for the last three days. Be glad to be protected a bit, at least.

Which one did you get? I got the pfiser. with that for both shots I felt random aches and pains for most of the day, then later in the first day and into the 2nd just wanted to sleep, with a bit of a headache. For the 2nd shot only, the 3rd day also had a headache, but was less tired.

To me, that is acceptable considering the alternatives...

I thought Pfiser was the only one that had to be taken as two shots, all the other ones only needed to be taken once.

Or am I misremembering things?
