Sigh... had Easter dinner, great ham and other dishes, everything fine. Then dessert, a nice chocolate cream pie, and I manage to bust a tooth on it. It must have been ready to go anyway, as a cream pie could not have enough solid material to do that.

Oddly, not in any pain, which is another indicator to me it had to be ready tro go... will now need to call and make a apt. with a dentist though.

Beware of Dog. Cat not trustworthy either.
No pain just means you didn't expose or involve any of the nerve pulp, which is good. Not having the enamel sheath makes the tooth more prone to infection, so yes, getting an appointment would be a good idea. Root canals really suck, speaking from experience.

I had probably a third of a canine just kind of fall off about 8 years ago right when eating almonds. Fortunately, that's the only time that's happened. There wasn't any pain, but I had enough exposed that being outside in the winter before I was able to get a dental appointment to get it fixed up hurt really bad from the cold air.

Anyways. Have a random fox gif

I have had the worst day of my life today.

Bit of backstory: my father had a stroke Feb. 20. Not too bad, some muscle weakness, trouble walking, some slurring of words and aphasia. 2 days later, he had another one; this one resulted in loss of speech, trouble chewing and swallowing. He spent the better part of a month in the hospital/convalescent home recovering before coming home. Two weeks later, back into the hospital he goes, because he has stopped eating, lowered his water consumption a lot, and has a UTI.

No biggie, he's treated, sent back to the convalescent home for more rehab, he's doing a lot better. Then he starts shitting blood. Exam can't find anything wrong down below, but does find a patch of precancerous cells in his esophagus, which gets removed. A week later, he not only has blood in his stool, but starts puking up blood.

Doctor told me they still can't figure out where exactly the bleeding is coming from, which is a problem, because the hospital is giving him blood and plasma... 6 units in 24 hours, which I guess is a lot? He's also hooked up to a ventilator to allow him to breathe. Doc lays it out plainly: it's only a matter of time before they have to stop giving him blood/plasma, because they won't give all their supply to one patient. That's a risk they won't take.

So I had to make a decision, and take my dad's wishes into account. I told them to stop the blood transfusions, stop the drugs, take him off the ventilator, let him die a peaceful death... the way he told me wanted.

I got the call 90 minutes later.

My condolences.

For what it's worth, I think you made the right call. It's the one I'd make for my own father and the one I hope people would make for me.

Getting a very sizeable tax return, thanks to putting a lot of money into my tax-deductible pension plan last year.

Got my second Covid-19 vaccine booster shot at the doctors office while getting a checkup... this seems to be following the pattern of the other 3 shots... I'm very achy and tired/sluggish.

I was mostly fine otherwise, even lost 7+lbs since last visit, though my blood pressure was higher than normal.

Well, I am back home from the hospital, finally, still having no f***ing clue just what kind of infection I had, but at least that continuous fever seems to be done with. Let me tell you, having to deal not only the four days it took me to get to the hospital with a fever (highest point was 39 C), then having to deal with it at the hospital for the extra five was really not fun. At least the antibiotics were good enough to finally get me in good enough condition that I could be released back home.

Worst. Nine. Days. Of. My. Life. EVER.

Would NOT recommend.

I'm a bit sick today too. Probably a very mild food poisoning or moderately powerful gastroenteritis, since I vomited thrice during the morning and have gone to the toilet over a dozen times so far, today.

The aftermath of all that hasn't been great either. Like, holy s**t, my ability to gauge my own body temperature at all has been shot to hell. It IS getting better, but it's gradual process.

And as a diabetic, this is playing merry havoc on my blood sugar levels. The fact that I'm not able to do anything too strenuous physically is hitting me here in a way I don't like. Like, at all.

*sigh* This is going to be hell to deal with going forward.

I got the news today that my younger brother needs surgery.

He had a fall last year, and after some tests and scans, it turns out that he's got a lesion on his spine.

As I understand things, he's going under the knife in about six weeks' time.

I have no reason not to believe that everything will be fine, but it feels weird that there's a chance that my brother might not see Christmas.

Same here. Hope the surgery turns out okay, and that everything goes well for your brother.

I spoke with my brother a short while ago, and he's in good spirits.

He made the decision to have the operation himself, which was the right one.

Once again, in an attempt to improve my productivity, I am trying to trim down the number of active tabs I have on my browser. Too many tabs!

I've never understood the reasoning behind keeping tabs... I make sure every time I open the browser all tabs are closed except the home tab... anything I want local I download, and anything I want to track I make a favorite or bookmark for.

Then make sure all of the above are backed up and synced up.

You too? I keep opening tabs to read/work/fuck around, then I shut down my laptop and do other things without closing my active tabs. So I have to open a new browser window to check my email/whatever, which only makes the problems worse. I too am working on clearing my tabs. It's gonna take a while...

Hahaha, me three... I'll do a trimming down later, as I'm going out to eat with my siblings tonight.

My desktop still has too many tabs, but making progress. My mobile browser I have trimmed from 43 down to 28 in the last week thankfully. Probably time to spam some Death Note fic recs lol

Huh. "The Phantom of the Opera" is ending its run on Broadway next year, after its 35th anniversary. It's been such a fixture that it's a bit odd to think that it'll no longer be around. (Seriously, the thing's been running longer than I've resided in the US.) Between this and the announced retirements of Serena Williams and Roger Federer, I'm really feeling my age.
