Or rather, how Hollywood can still run while being piloted by idiots that don't know when to say when.

At least my sister can sleep better, knowing The Godfather Part III was originally supposed to be way more awesome than what we got.

Also, fuck you, Superman. Just. Fuck. And. You.

Thoughts?

Eeh...you know, if both movies were separated by a few years, then we could have gotten two GOOD films, not two mediocre films.

I want to go to Hollywood and punch some testicles in.

Seriously, some of these films could've been spectacular if it weren't for executive or celebrity meddling.

The Nottingham one would've redefined so much in terms of Robin Hood in general, instead of being just generic Robin Hood movie #94.

Cool World... oh, poor poor Cool World. It could've been something. I wish Bakshi had found an independent producer instead of Frank Mancuso, Jr. Or Basinger deciding it shouldn't be R-rated. <_<

The Xmen thing sounds about right. They were clearly all set for the Dark Phoenix saga, when someone decided to hijack that plot and instead do a mutant cure storyline instead.

Sadly, the same shit happened to Spiderman 3. If you cut out all the Venom stuff, and had just left it as Sandman vs spidy versus Green gob 2, it would have rocked.

Raimi himself explained the Spiderman 3 issue. That really wasn't his fault. Honestly, they didn't even need to really expand on the goblin issue. They could've left it at just Sandman since he had the most backstory and was a primary Spidey Villain for a looong time.

The second GG was hinted at by the end of Spidy 2, and would have been fine. Would have set up a nice three way fight for the end of part 3.

I think Raimi was in the clear on this one as well. Studio execs are who screwed this one up.

Hollywood in general tends to dismiss unconventional plots. It's sad but nothing new.

Sad to say, bankrolling the "wrong" movie will cost a lot of people their jobs, from the production company behind it (Square Pictures went bankrupt because of how badly Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within tanked) to the writer and agent that sold the script to said production company. And we're not even talking about grossing a profit -- just breaking even is considered a good day. The more money involved, the more the movie will have to rake in just to recoup production costs. Profits are hard to come by, seeing that a movie will have to gross three times its costs in making it.

This is partly why producers pull stunts like <a href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cool_World' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>what Frank Mancuso, Jr did to the original script Ralph Bakshi wrote</a>. Of course, other reasons include ego-tripping ("putting my mark on things"), pettiness (killing off Cyclops in X-Men: The Final Stand) and other acts of dickery (intentionally ruining a good script because the writer won't sleep with you).

It's sad, but Hollywood just won't take risks anymore. It's hard to make a profit on a edgy, risky film when there are so many other alternatives for people entertainment wise, so they have to use brand recognition and dumb things down.

I would love it if Hollywood took the budget for one of the summer blockbusters, divided it into million dollar portions, and gave those portions out to writers, with the promise of a finished product by X date, probably one or two years tops.

Then we'd have a bunch of new movies that get to screw around with stuff without worrying about executive meddling. We'd probably get a good number of decent ones, possibly getting a few amazing ones as well. At the very least, anew wave of life would be in the movie industry and that could significantly raise the bar for movies.

Hey this reminds me, my friend stan is working on making his own Scifi series. Check it out. Fight the corporate executive monopoly on entertainment!
