A Sleight Of Spirit

Here, have a Magic: the Gathering fic.

It's up to chapter eleven, but there's still quite a bit left of it if I can just keep writing. Feel free to yell at me for errors in canon, but it's based off of an RPG that's based off of the game, so I was working with the telephone effect. In any case, I like the characters involved (They're all original, FYI) and I have fun writing it.

Warnings: It is rather unbeta-ed, but I promise I have decent typing skills and it's no worse than the few posts I've done here (scattered spelling and skipped word mistakes are most common). ff.n's formatting also confuses me now, so sometimes story breaks get skipped -.-

Anyway, here's a snippet from Chapter 10.

ôNow why would I bother lying when the truth is plain?ö Zakirael asked, and approached again, slowly. She did not back away this time, watching him suspiciously. ôYou are always in pain, Morgan, at least a slight bit. Perhaps by now it has faded into normalcy, but it is always there. The demon that grips your soul also despises it with all of itÆs being. It is constantly trying to perverse a part of you that cannot be purged, and will never give in û and from this stems a constant ache.ö He drew closer again, voice calm and soft. ôYou are a powerful force, and beside that a strong soul. Few could have survived what you already have; and such fortitude should not be laid to waste.ö

Morgan narrowed her eyes. ôIt is already wasted. I am wasted û there nothing left of me.ö

ôThere is. From a village may come a kingdom, in time.ö He placed both hands over his heart, and then extended them to her. ôLet me teach you, Morgan. Let me bring your kingdom to its peak.ö

She stared at him for several moments, glaring. ôYou do not fool me, snake,ö she hissed, and walked from him to the door. ôYou may teach me, but I will not use the lessons to your ends.ö

Cheers.

Hmm, well, it's not bad as far as I've read it (two chapters). Well written and all. Just... where's the famous faces? Jodah? Barrin? Heidar?

There's a lot of MtG fics, but they rarely, if ever, use the estabilished characters, instead preferring to raise self-insert hell with unlikely planeswalkers 'OMG MORE POWERFUL THAN URZA'.

Not to say your fic is the same, but seeing a few familiar faces would be nice.

Yeah, that's kind of a problem, I know.

I don't know the familiar characters well enough to write them. I could probably pull off Jaya, but I'll only be getting to the point where the main character is in a position to meet them in... oh, I dunno, five chapters or so? *shrug* (THough, come to think of it, I could at the *least* give them mention...)

This is meant as background anyway, so I *don't* raise self insert hell XD And hey, at least the OC isn't from earth and got omgtransported to the MtG world.

Thanks for reading though :) I just like Character abuse.

To be fair, with Magic being Magic, that's actually feasible - things get summoned against their will all the time.

*Snerk* I know. I once saw a conversation about accidentally summoning Chuck Norris. Someone else asked if that was Godmodding.

No. Godmodding would be summoning Mr. T. :snigger:
