I can't deny that - in fact, it was quite deliberate. Gilgamesh, at this point, is the oldest Eirei in the Throne of Heroes. He's three-quarters God to one quarter human. He's also got such a powerful personality that he was infected by the corrupted Grail and still continued to do as he damn well pleased.

Look at his Charisma rating = A+. That's equal to a hundred mortal men. Is it any wonder that Gilgamesh overwrote great swathes of Xander's personality merely by proximity?

This fic wasn't just Xander + Power = better Xander. It was "be careful what you wish for - it might come true". And it might make you something inhuman.

I appreciate the well-thought out review, and I respect the fact you did comment, especially as you didn't like where the fic went. But it was a guaranteed result, right from the word go, that Xander was going to lose part of himself.

If it was your intention, then certainly fair enough. ;)

Heh. Fair enough indeed. If I hadn't been doing it on purpose, it would be a sign of bad writing - 'OMG, me prefers Gil over Xan, so Xander must go!'. Which, yes, I would be most unimpressed by, if I were a reader. :sisi:

Good story, but one problem (more a personal bitch fit). Why does spike ALWAYS FUCKING SURVIVE YAHF fics, even by authors that hate him?

T_T
Heh you just mentioned the thing I hate the most about Xander focused fics, the fact that most authors have Spike instantly dusted and Angel bow down to the all-powerful might that is Xander.

Yeah, that one right there was a cliche I've seen once too often. Heck, I've been guilty of it myself. But this time, I felt like playing with the usual suspects. Angel here thought he had the upper hand, and that he was being magnanimous here. Frankly, he was laughing at Xander's little act.

He doesn't know just how close he came to being dusted, honestly. If not for Gil!Xander's egotistical desire to be chosen over Angel by Buffy, Angel would be dead. But Xander can't rub his romantic victory over Angel, if Angel's dead. (And surpassing a dead man proves nothing, as far as he's conerned.) So Angel lives, for now.

Yeah. It's in character for Gil, given that The Epic paints him as a fellow who decreed that he should sleep with newlywed wives before their husbands could do so. This is actually pretty tame, by his standards. It's more like Xander going after what he wants in a Gilgamesh-approved fashion. :snigger:

Is that contrary enough to the cliche, Cilrais? :huh.:

Throne of Heroes - Exists outside of time and space. The place where souls that have been removed from the cycle of transmigration "reside" (more like stored). A deeper part of the astral plane? Once you become a hero, this is where you stay. Forever. Not going to be freed. Ever. Stuck there. No parties, no fights. No meeting other heroes in said throne. The end. You're dead, but you're not really gone. Just stuck in one little "room" with "books".

F/SN Meister?

/why... do I suddenly think Mai Otome?

Well, that's a bit overblown considering there are several other people on the forum with just as much knowledge of the Nasuverse as me, but... eh, whatever.

It was good. I especially liked that Gilgamesh is pretty much dominate. You'd think that with all the YAHF fics, with people replacing the costumes from Jedi to Gods, that the other personality would actually be STRONGER than Xander, enough to warp him.

I mean, I know that Xander's personality is his more striking feature but...

Well, whatever. I don't really have any comments that haven't already been said... and any complaints I'd have you probably are already aware of (GoB doesn't really function like that, etc.) ...

Except, one thing:

HeÆd gotten to the halfway point between his home and Sunnydale High, when he found he just couldnÆt forbear the ill-fitting jacket any longer. It was too short in the arms and too narrow across his shoulders to have any chance of fitting. With a click of his fingers, he sent it back to the vault whence it had come from.
Cute, but it doesn't make much sense.

Xander, if you go by Nicholas Brendon's height, is 5' 11 (180cm). If you consider the fact that he's supposed to be a highschool student, he might even less than that given he probably isn't fully grown yet.

Gilgamesh is 6' 0 (183cm).

Given the fact of arm length is usually equated by height, if anything, it might be a bit LONGER then it should. Additionally, while certainly possible for Gilgamesh to be a slimmer man, it's still sort of unlikely in that people usually become broader later in life (if they're going to, anyway). Less unlikely then his arm length, but still a point to be made.

Also, that Gilgamesh would have that jacket in the vault is kind of silly... but (giving it a bit of thought), entirely possible, given that it's Gil. *shakes head*

Yes, and I AM that much of a nitpicking bastard.

Ack! Measurements are my undoing! ^_^

I knew about the height = armspan thing, but it didn't quite register here. I blame Gil's enormous pauldrons for screwing up my perception of his size. Once ya see that, then compare to his normal clothes, he looks like a waif.

Honestly, the nitpicking thing? It's quite welcome. After the kind of lukewarm "nice work, mower suun plz" stuff I've been getting recently, if I get any feedback at all, has been less than inspiring.

It's also appreciated that you gave both positive and negative feedback. A lot of people seem to be doing it wrong, in my experience. ;)

Well, this normally wouldn't be an issue since you're almost never sure what height the characters really are, but Nasu actually puts this data down. ^^ It's a plus of Gilgamesh being from a visual novel, and having such a detailed creator.

I know what you mean. At least in terms of preference. I only so rarely get any reviews at all, (on FF.net, etc., but I don't expect much from those sites. ^^) but I like negative feedback more than positive, usually. People getting excited about ideas is wonderful, especially since it can spur me on, but people pointing out the flaws in my ideas/creations are what makes me a better writer (I think).

/ahh, is this what being God feels like? He must be working on more interesting projects at this point...

Heh.

I take it as a I see it, basically. I try to give something useful when I review a story, but it often times doesn't work out quite right. Hence me not reviewing that much since it'd just be another drop in the bucket. :/

I totally agree.

And that's all I have to say. Which leads me to your last point, because I have nothing of value to add. And when I have nothing of value to add, I tend not to say anything.

Because when I do, I invariably feel like a pointless spammer. ^_^

So, yes, I see your point. ;)

Well, I don't necessarily think that spam in itself is bad. Quite the opposite, actually, I believe that spam can be quite fun. It's just that... when reviewing a story, I feel I own it to the author to give more than pointless fluff. There are exceptions (as always), in terms of 'all in good fun', but still.

Have to say I'm in total agreement with this. Often times, the only reason I don't review certain stories is for this same reason.
