Evangelion An idea that's been fermenting in my mind

Ok, correct me if this sounds too crazy, but I have an idea for a NGE/DBZ crossover. Now, hold on and let me explain before you scoff. The basic premise will be that DBZ Earth was what Earth had been before First Impact (which explains why they had dinosaurs there). By the time FI happens, the only Z-warrior still alive to try to stop it that was strong enough to mean anything was Vegeta, mostly because Saiya-jins age much slower than humans. Obviously, his royal shortness fails and dies in the attempt to save the current human race. When the Prince of All Saiyajins ends up before Enma-sama the god of the dead is left with a quandry. By this point, Vegeta has spent more years doing good than evil, but his soul isn't pure enough to join the others from DBZ in heaven, nor is he evil enough for hell. Normally, this would constitute his memories being wiped and his soul simply being reborn. Unfortunately, his soul is too strong in and of itself to do so without his consent, and the way Veggie's ranting about sending him back to stop that 'baka angel thing', there's no way he'll consent to that fate. There's also the fact Vegeta is the best warrior mankind will have to defend it now that Goku is fused with the Eternal Dragon.

So...Enma-sama cuts him a deal. Vegeta will be reborn on the eve of major threats to the Earth so that he can join up with some of Earth's current defenders of that time to try to save the world and earn his eventual redemption and place in paradise. Instead of the usual method of reincarnation, though, a shadow if his true self, complete with memories, will be present in the back if his mind to try to drive his incarnation to success, as well as use the lives of his incarnations to help clear out his karmic backload.

Cut to NGE timeline and meet Vegeta's newest, and last, incarnation Ikari Shinji. All will proceed as normal until the 12th Angel when Shinji's journey into his mindscape in the Sea of Dirac triggers him to see his childhood 'imaginary friend' Veggie who is berating him for letting his baka father's minions convince him that he was weak and stupid. He then goes into a tirade about the fact Shinji lost his early connection to his previous incarnation because of the derogatory things his caregivers would berate him with about his mental state for even having an 'imaginary friend'. Finally he goes off on Gendo's personality, calling him a pathetic Frieza imitation that deserves a lifetime of eating Bulma's cooking for what he has done.

The story will proceed from there.

Now, if that isn't wild enough on it's own, there's the other elements I want to include.

Either Misato or Asuka is really Bulma's reincarnation with the same situation as Vegeta. She wasn't about to let HER mate go off and fight an eternal war generation after generation while she sat on her shapely posterior in heaven and waited for him to come back.

Kaji is obviously Yamcha's reincarnation.

I'm thinking Toji might actually be Trunks, which will add a new dimension the the 13th Angel business.

Shinji might be an actual genetic descendant of Vegeta and Bulma's through Yui. (Which would make Rei one as well. Might exlpain the blue hair, no?)

Now, the biggest question I have besides wondering if anyone will read this if who should really be Bulma? Asuka would be the obvious choice for most, but my inner muse is pulling for Misato just for the tension it might cause. Especially when Shinji starts picking up some of Vegeta's personality quircks and starts thinking of Misato as his mate.

Well that and adding the line: "I don't believe this, onna. Thousands of years and hundreds of reincarnations and you STILL can't cook? I had to eventually learn out of hidden self preservation instincts!"

So...what do you guys think? Comments? Suggestions?

Although Dragonball isn't quite a nice anime do do a crossover with the ideea has some merit. Obviously you will lose all support if Misato isn't the reincarnation of Bulma :p.

Well, Misato-chan definitely has her merits. For one, Bulma was a bit older than Vegeta so that could translate into her and Shinji's age difference. They have similar cooking skills, or lack thereof. And well, the English voice actresses sound similar. I'm not certain if they're the same person, frankly I don't much care, but it's not that hard to see Misato being Bulma.

Of course Asuka has similar pro-Bulma arguments. She's a child prodigy, she yells at her chosen mate and complains nearly constantly, and she passes off responsibility for her shortcomings. Those are all classic Bulma. Although, except for the child genius thing they could apply to Chi-Chi as well. Hmmm....

Ok, here's a question, if Misato is Bulma who would you rather Asuka be? Chi-Chi, Bra, or Lunch/Launch?

Is Rei actually a reincarnation of Juuhachi-gou? Or is she possibly Bra?

Is Hikari anyone? If not Asuka, I think she'd make an excellent Chi-Chi with her being class rep and all. Although if Toji is Trunks, could she really be Pan back at an age where she could snag her prince?

Who else thinks Kensuke would make a nice Oolong or Muten Roshi?

Would anyone else want to see Shinji pull the 'Daddy' of 'Because I'm your Father and I said so' card against Asuka in an argument if she really was Bra-chan's reincarnation?

Should Misato start showing technical aptitudes if Shinji can re-awaken her Bulma tendencies? Would that makes Ritsuko jealous?

Who wants to see Shiji fry Gendo with a Gallick Gun or a Final Flash? I'd say a Big Bang Attack, but that could theoretically blow the whole Geofront to Hell and back.

Should Shinji grow a tail after the 12th or 14th Angel? Should Misato start doing a happy dance when she realizes the tail is prehensile and has more applications than just lifting things?  :snigger:

Let me know what you all think of this stuff. Oh and sorry, but no seizures Gafgar. It was fun to stare at though. :yay:

Well I'll be... you actually have good ideeas to pull this through, i never thought i will actually want to read a DBZ anything else crossover simply because the series isn't much (just a constant AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA) but the stuff you're taking can be well used and I for one would like to see the: Because i said so!. As for Rei, i don't think she should be a reincarnation. Also try to keep influences on the other character minimal with preferably only Shinji aware of who they were in a prev life (although instinctually they'll act like before). Heh i'm all for fun stuff :p.

I gotta agree, this ideas sounding pretty good. I actually kinda like DBZ (the last parts actually had some plot, which don't include GT cause that was made by a different person using the same universe) though in small doses. And the idea of Vegeta, All mighty Prince of the Saiyans and fearless warrior, being reincarnated as meek, human Ikari Shinji is just too funny.

Having the rest of the gang be reincarnated though...hrm... Your basic premise is that they're all dead even before Vegeta is; and that he's doing this whole reincarnation bit so he can work off the rest of his karma and join them all in heaven. If the rest of them all wind up being re-incarnated then whats the point? Though I can see an irate Bulma, after waiting who knows how long for Vegeta to die and join her, verbally beating and cowing Enma into letting her go back to earth too after she finds out whats going on.

I always thought Bulma was only a smidge older than Vegeta though, like being 14 when he was 12 or something (we know Vegetas older than Goku by at least 10 years judging by flashbacks. And Bulmas at least 5 or so years older then Goku. The early Dragonball episodes never really state how old they all are that I've seen)

As for Shinji having actual Saiyan DNA...I -suppose- that could be worked in. Figure by the time Vegeta dies that the next closest in purity would be some 1/8 Saiyan by blood. Perhaps in the ensuing years; by some quirk of fate or the Kais, that enough people with traces of that heritage had families together to give Shinji mebbe 1/4 Saiyan status. Any more than that seems kinda contrived plus he'd likely have been born with a tail (we know half saiyans have tails, but do quarter Saiyans? Couldn't stomache GT so I have no idea if Pan had a tail or not) At any rate, he'd have to work his ass off after remembering himself to get in shape. Assuming he wants to be able to start throwing ki blasts and rivaling gods in power again. I can so see Vegeta being pissed (even after lotsa reincarnations) at having to be a lowly human. Hell, if I didn't like the idea of Vegeta being Shinji I'd suggest making him Asuka (who shares alot of traits with him as well) just to nudge the rage factor up a notch.

Anyways, my two cents. I'll probably read this no matter what, just to see how it turns out.

Well what attracts me to this ideea is Vegeta not being Shinji but rather a shadow in his mind since i started to hate reincarnation fics, i wouldn't be attracted by Shinji actually being Vegeta.

So basically we'd be going with the 'Kyuubi' method for this with having another presence whispering suggestions and advice to him from the back of his mind?

Yup that pretty much sums it up, only that unlike Kyuubi he won't be able to power boost Shinji or take him over.

Not really... Yui is in Unit 01 while Vegeta will be in his head :p.

It's a little bit of both. Technically speaking, Shinji is Vegeta's rightful reincarnation but he's still himself, too. It's just Vegeta still has a shadow of his old self there to guide Shiji toward his destiny. The Kyuubi comparison is pretty close in the grand scheme of things. Basically it's like shinji has another personality in him that's self aware. That personality just happens to be Vegeta.

The only other character I wanted to definitively add to the reincarnation group is Bulma, who YES in fact did berate Enma into sending her to be with her mate. But who's to say that Shinji and Misato are a part of the same reincarnation? Remember Vegeta gets sent back so he can be old enough to stop certain threats whether he succeeds or not. Who's to say an older Veggie-reincarnation didn't try to stop 2nd impact only to be stopped by Misato's father and the Bastard King? It's not Misato's fault Vegeta got reborn again so soon that Bulma didn't have time to die naturally and catch up to him. I guess they'll have to live with the age gap. :huh.: :unsure!: :snigger:

As for the others, well Toji being Trunks would just be a device to make Shinji and Vegeta care that much more about him being in danger as an EVA pilot. Let's face it, with the Prince of all Saiyajins whispering advice in your head it's only so long until you get a bit desensitized to people being hurt. He was the guy willing to mercy kill Nappa, someone who basically helped raise him after Vegeta-sei was destroyed, just because the big oaf was no longer useful.

Asuka might be Bra for sheer comic value.

Kaji would be Yamcha because A) He wasn't exactly a boy scout himself and may have some karma to work off, and B) He's STILL trying to get Bulma back and failing miserably because his wandering peck...uh I mean EYE keeps getting him into trouble. :headbanger:

On a similar note someone on another board suggested I make Rei be Chi-Chi's incarnation. I'm not going to do that, but who else gets a snicker out of the thought of Rei chasing someone down and administering the frying pan of doom upon them?

So when are we going to see a release from this fan-fic ?

When I can get the time to write. Work has been a real bear lately. On another note, who else can see this premise being tweaked a bit to fuse Shinji with Sephiroth? How would the machinations of the one-winged angel screw with NERV and SEELE?
