Ok, correct me if this sounds too crazy, but I have an idea for a NGE/DBZ crossover. Now, hold on and let me explain before you scoff. The basic premise will be that DBZ Earth was what Earth had been before First Impact (which explains why they had dinosaurs there). By the time FI happens, the only Z-warrior still alive to try to stop it that was strong enough to mean anything was Vegeta, mostly because Saiya-jins age much slower than humans. Obviously, his royal shortness fails and dies in the attempt to save the current human race. When the Prince of All Saiyajins ends up before Enma-sama the god of the dead is left with a quandry. By this point, Vegeta has spent more years doing good than evil, but his soul isn't pure enough to join the others from DBZ in heaven, nor is he evil enough for hell. Normally, this would constitute his memories being wiped and his soul simply being reborn. Unfortunately, his soul is too strong in and of itself to do so without his consent, and the way Veggie's ranting about sending him back to stop that 'baka angel thing', there's no way he'll consent to that fate. There's also the fact Vegeta is the best warrior mankind will have to defend it now that Goku is fused with the Eternal Dragon.
So...Enma-sama cuts him a deal. Vegeta will be reborn on the eve of major threats to the Earth so that he can join up with some of Earth's current defenders of that time to try to save the world and earn his eventual redemption and place in paradise. Instead of the usual method of reincarnation, though, a shadow if his true self, complete with memories, will be present in the back if his mind to try to drive his incarnation to success, as well as use the lives of his incarnations to help clear out his karmic backload.
Cut to NGE timeline and meet Vegeta's newest, and last, incarnation Ikari Shinji. All will proceed as normal until the 12th Angel when Shinji's journey into his mindscape in the Sea of Dirac triggers him to see his childhood 'imaginary friend' Veggie who is berating him for letting his baka father's minions convince him that he was weak and stupid. He then goes into a tirade about the fact Shinji lost his early connection to his previous incarnation because of the derogatory things his caregivers would berate him with about his mental state for even having an 'imaginary friend'. Finally he goes off on Gendo's personality, calling him a pathetic Frieza imitation that deserves a lifetime of eating Bulma's cooking for what he has done.
The story will proceed from there.
Now, if that isn't wild enough on it's own, there's the other elements I want to include.
Either Misato or Asuka is really Bulma's reincarnation with the same situation as Vegeta. She wasn't about to let HER mate go off and fight an eternal war generation after generation while she sat on her shapely posterior in heaven and waited for him to come back.
Kaji is obviously Yamcha's reincarnation.
I'm thinking Toji might actually be Trunks, which will add a new dimension the the 13th Angel business.
Shinji might be an actual genetic descendant of Vegeta and Bulma's through Yui. (Which would make Rei one as well. Might exlpain the blue hair, no?)
Now, the biggest question I have besides wondering if anyone will read this if who should really be Bulma? Asuka would be the obvious choice for most, but my inner muse is pulling for Misato just for the tension it might cause. Especially when Shinji starts picking up some of Vegeta's personality quircks and starts thinking of Misato as his mate.
Well that and adding the line: "I don't believe this, onna. Thousands of years and hundreds of reincarnations and you STILL can't cook? I had to eventually learn out of hidden self preservation instincts!"
So...what do you guys think? Comments? Suggestions?
