I'm satisfied with answers I got for my original question - so I'm game. Going to sleep now, but if there are at least 2 pages (ideally 4) of nothing but comic talk in this thread when I wake up, I'll edit the OP and move the thread over to this section,
http://thefanfictionforum.net/forumdisplay.php?fid=45

For poster-y I'll even leave the thread title alone. Should be fun. :D

Need I say anything else? Feel free to attempt bringing the thread back on track. Or off-track. Or whatever.

First off, let me get down on my knees and BEG you all (the TFF community) NOT to turn this thread into another shit-storm.

That ESPECIALLY means NOT linking/referring to examples.

We all get angry. It makes us do stupid things. Something I really liked about oTFF was the fact that no-one got on our throats when we got ... colorful. It wasn't exactly fun for the people involved, but it sure was entertaining for those on the side-lines! :)

We don't seem to have the same atmosphere here anymore. It looks to me that the moment anyone starts a verbal argument, within a page or two the admin/mod comes in and asks everyone to shut up. Is this a good thing? I don't know. But it IS in-line with the rules voted in.

After some thinking, I'm wondering about making a new 'RAEG' sub-forum exclusively for ranting. You can do whatever you want in there - spam a thread, throw insulting remarks at a fellow member ... etc (within our host, icyboard's rules). The idea is that absolutely NO moderator/administrator action will be taken for anyone's behavior in there. Obviously, if you attempt to "accidentally" spill that anger on some other section of the board, the warnings/ban-hammer will fall on you, but otherwise a lawless land (within icyboards rules!).

If any of the admins/mods see ... uncomfortable general behavior in a certain thread, it will simply be moved to the 'RAEG' sub-forum - where people can fight it out all they want.

Years ago, when I was part of the anandtech forums, there was an issue of certain members who went posting everywhere just to get their 'post count' up. They were granted a single 'spam thread' where they could post as they liked and the rest of the community was thankful - no bans/moderator action involved and everyone was happy. It was a rule that unless someone posted age-inappropriate things in the spam thread, any complaints from it were ignored (it was a public forum).

A single thread won't be enough for us. We like to throw anything, including the kitchen sink, at everyone (this isn't spacebattles, after-all!). So, I feel a separate sub-forum might be in order.

Think of it as a way to preserve the freedom we had on oTFF alongside the 'rules and regulations' of nTFF. What do you say?

Obviously if you have any better ideas (or improvements), feel free to voice them.

PS: Just because my username has a purple color does NOT in any way make this suggestion semi-approved or the like. Heck, I haven't even spoken it to anyone before posting. I'm looking for a BROAD consensus BEFORE taking any kind of action - PLEASE work with me people!
PPS: I'll keep modifying this first post with ideas/suggestions as they get voiced (and as I get time)

It's not a good thing because this is how bureaucracy starts. Soon, they will realise that 2 admins and 3 mods won't be enough to police the boards for our safety and will look to expand in order to better protect nTFF citizens from themselves. ;)

Anyway, would you please present evidence of these moderations?

No, it's fucking not. I can rules lawyer with the best of them, and I'm the one that crafted the final rules. This kind of shit from the admins/mods is absolutely unacceptable.

-Cursing in any capacity is fine, as long as there's more to the post than that.
-Outside of preview forums, there is no such thing as necros, useless posts, and temporary threadjacks.
-Insults we don't give a fuck about.
-Racial slurs? Only if the reportee can prove it was intended harmfully.
-Personal attacks? The person who was attacked must report... and even then, attack is just edited away and a warning given.

The entire point of the rules we voted for was to keep oTFF's style, while adding teeth to our self-moderation. Now, I understand that this is a transition period, so things are a bit wonky- that's why I haven't started jumping asses and why I think gafgar is a retard.

But if we start getting warnings/bans for being colorful, ANYWHERE on the board, I'm going to be unspeakably pissed. I've put a lot of fucking work into this board- I expect the common decency of others to not fucking ruin it.

And yes, you all need to start posting in the moderation forum, and stop acting without a report. Posting the (sanitized of personal information) report wouldn't go amiss either.

The rules we voted on literally said Insults are a way of saying hello.

Like Shirotsume said it is only when the attacked person reports it that any action is needed.

So basically as long as the parties involved do not complain to a moderator we can say whatever we want to each other.

Having a special, virtually unmoderated subforum (except for illegal shit) might not be a bad idea. I've been on a few other forums that implemented one of those because there will always be idiots who ignore the rules but giving them a place to post their filth where the rest of the board can easily ignore them generally seemed to work and it made the moderators lives easier.

But then again, as Shirotsume pointed out, we really shouldn't need a subforum like that because our rules are so lax to begin with.

Wasn't that what the general rants section was for?

It was, but it was really just an excuse for Hawk to have a place to be a racist asshole, if I remember correctly.

I'm confused. Isn't this what the Rant section is for?

The majority of the members here don't have temper tantrum issues. To my knowledge, it's only a small minority that actually flies off the handle and goes on emotionally charged rants.

And I was under the impression that that's what the Rants section was for, as well.

Alright; perhaps I mis-understood something. So I'm going to ask,

Is being angry, name-calling or throwing accusations at other forums members OUTSIDE the Rant section a punishable ( = bans, warnings ... etc) 'crime' on this forum? As long as said behavior is obviously linked to the thread in question?

For example, if AAA started to throw mud at BBB saying girl-Ranma is pretty in the non-crossover Harry Potter thread, then its an obvious case of unwanted thread-derailing which deserves a warning.

But, if AAA started mud-slinging at BBB in the Ranma thread because he found Ranma to be a pretty girl, calling him gay (among other things) across several pages; unless BBB officially complains (regardless of how the other viewers see it) do the mods even need to warn AAA for 'bad behavior' ?

The question is off-topic, but its what motivated me to make this thread in the first place, so some clarification from our members would be helpful.

The rules that were voted on say that thread derailing isn't a big deal unless it completely changes the topic of the thread and takes it over. Even then, you only move the thread to the appropriate place.

Also, no punishments unless BBB officially reports him, according to the rules ratified.

I'll be honest, part of me is tempted to create a thread specifically to see how much I can get it moved around the forum.

After looking through this thread, my answer is a gerbil running on a treadmill.

Or, to put it another way, it is cute, but not going to go anywhere in a hurry.

After the greeting I got from zeebee1 and the following explanation, I got a handle on what kind of place TFF is.

I have no idea what my point is, but if someone can find it, please let me know. I'm going to go wander off now.

I am reminded of a very immature song that was created to annoy one of my former roommates. I will not post any of it here since it would only belong to the restricted section.

Instead, what if Spiderman and Squirrel Girl went on a date?

Well, we gotta make 42 posts of comic/cartoon stuff!

Gogo!

So I hear there's a new teen titans.

You mean the chibi titans?

I liked Raven from the original series. Then again, goth chick. That reminds me, I need to read Sandman. I hear there are goth chicks in that.

I take the healthy approach of bottling my anger completely with a fake smile until I either either become a male stepford wife or I grab a rock and bash in the skull of that ASSFUCKINGDICKMONGERFAGBITCHASSPIGCOCKSUCKINGSHITWAFFLE next door for playing his music at max volume with the base turn up to 11.

Tobey Maguire is not a good Spider-man.

Kind of like Bale has a horrible Batman voice.

Though in Maguire's case the dialogue is at fault there.

Maguire is a better Peter Parker, in my opinion. At least in the first movie.
He does have the awkward teenager part down I guess, not as suitable for the sequels but yeah I can agree on that.

I disliked the Spider-man movies because they completely shit all over comic Spiderman's personality. What happened to smart-ass wise-cracking Spiderman? Movie Spiderman was so boring and emo.
