Sorry about that. Its fix now.

I just started Ch.4 aka Butler Vs. Zombies Wrestling Fans. I am a bit surprise that Artemis and Co. never got around to getting Juliet memory back.

Can somebody please explain why this book didn't live up to it's predecessors?

It read like a fanfic.

A horrible, horrible, horrible fanfic.

It only picked up at the end, but by that point it was too fucking late.

And, there's not evil genius Artemis Fowl. There's barely even genius Artemis Fowl. There's barely even Artemis Fowl!

What the hell?!

That doesn't sound good. I still haven't read the last one before this due to issues I heard about from the trouts, and apparently this is far worse? After the utter awesome that was The Lost Colony (Particularly the Climax) and it starts a massive decline?

Edit: Though looking at what else is being said, apparently this Orion is hilarious... Though I'm not sure I trust the ones saying it... >>

The next book better be damn impressive, otherwise I've lost hope for the series.

Um, wut you talking about. Series ended at Opal Deception.

Ok, maybe, just maybe it continued onto Lost Colony. But that's it, so I dunno wut you're talking aboot.

Yeah, Lost Colony is a must. That time loop climax was just too epic to cut. Series ends with Artemis with magic and all the glorious things he can now achieve only hinted at.

I have to concur. It had the same feeling that the sixth books of the Dark Tower and Harry Potter series did. Like its a set up for more to come. Also it seems to end so abruptly, it makes me think that Colfer made a mistake taking off to write that Hitchhikers thing. Yet at the same time even Artemis and crew felt that this adventure was different. Personally I was hoping Minerva Paradizo would have reappeared, but there is always the next book. Also there is a couple of loose ends to tie up with Opal Koboi.... both of them.

Yeah but I didn't like Time Paradox that much, and that was inbetween.

This just takes all that was hinted in Lost Colony and shat all over it.

... Wut?

No seriously wut? Granted I haven't even started the bloody thing thanks to what I heard about it from the Trouts, but he took the concept of Artemis plotting evil now with Magic to back himself up and ran a book prior to that goldmine of possible scenarios instead? Seriously WHAT?

SPOILER

MAGIC AND GUILT MADE ARTEMIS GO CRAZY. THAT'S THE ATLANTIS COMPLEX IN THE TITLE.

TREATMENT IS FOR N1 TO GET RID OF ALL THE SPARKS IN ARTEMIS. + PSYCHOTHERAPY.

ALSO, STORY STARTS WITH ARTEMIS WANTING TO SAVE THE WORLD BY PREVENTING GLOBAL WARMING.

WITH AN ICE CUBE.

Read Time Paradox, Evil Midget Arty vs Rather pathetic goody two shoes Arty.

Of course, it's completely unfair, since Evil!Arty has Butler and is completely ruthless, while Good!Arty has his guilt holding him back, and his only help is Holy who is having difficulty dealing with the hormones she got for de-aging a couple hundred years.

Opal Deception was only so-so while Lost Colony was fantastic. The later two, Time Paradox and the newest Atlantis Complex are not so good.

Atlantis Complex takes way too long to reach its climax and ends itself so abruptly. Seriously, the climax of the whole story lasts like 20 pages or so on my E-Reader. Using the largest font on there. That translates as maybe 11 pages or so in real text maybe. There is no real sense of closure and the main villain, who by the way, masterminded the deaths of hundreds of fairies, goes out like a hero all for love.

Orion was kinda lulzy, but nothing all that fantastic and the more humanized Butler feels awkward. And Juliet's first appearance since Eternity Code feels disappointing as well.

Insane Artemis is not a fun Artemis too. No doubt the book is decent. There's a really good sense of humor and drama throughout the whole text but really, after Lost Colony, this can not compare.

Agreeing with NGD and AC Stranger, The Lost Colony is definately the high point of the series, and contains everything Epic that it could have possibly stuffed into it (hell, I want to go visit the Taipei 101 SOLELY because of this book), aside from the gotcha!introduction of Minerva, who has yet to show up again. I didn't really like her, but that's no excuse to use her, then leave her like Colfer did.

Time Paradox sounded cool (more time-travel? Awesome! - right?), but all-in-all, it seemed to me that the sole reason of the book was to push Artemis and Holly towards one another (with, might I add, all the subtlety of a nuclear warhead). And having Opal Koboi show up again was, to me, annoying. It's great that he didn't just forget about her and her evil, wicked ways (not like Minerva, at least), and that, yes, with her around there'll always be some evil, wicked villain about, but the whole thing seemed rushed and poorly done. Save the animals? Bah. For every animal you save, I kill and eat three.

Atlantis Complex was even worse. Still sounded cool (because of Artemis' magic-dabbling, he gets a magical disease and goes crazy n' stuff? Awesome! - right?), but came off as another badly-done attempt at pushing Arty and Holly towards one another (it honestly would have been more subtle for Colfer to hire a fangirl, who goes around, picks up the book, and smashes it into your face yelling "Artemis x Holly fo'evah!" repeatedly until you black out). The characters all seemed too...two-dimensional. Foaly, Mulch, and Juliet were there solely for the purpose of insulting each other and making snide remarks about this-and-that. Holly was there to be all concerned for Artemis. Artemis cycled between being out-of-character and being someone else entirely. Orion was overused - like, WAY too much. It may have been funny the first time he spoke up. It may have been sorta lulzy the second time. But after that, I was just annoyed. I was surprised I managed to read the entire book.

Then there was the randomly-appearing use of Runes, which we had NEVER heard of before now. Turnball is here, and (though I did bitch about her before) I was honestly hoping for an Opal Koboi book, just so we could END HER. FINALLY. But, no. She was down there, though, when the place got evacuated or whatever. Giant squid and all. Yeah.

The kicker, though, was the ending, in which......well, honestly there WAS no ending. It just...stopped. Like, in the middle of the story. You get near to the end, going, 'okay, shit better wrap up real quick-like...', and then it doesn't and it just CUTS OFF in the middle of a paragraph. I think the book ends with the word "soup". Seriously. :sisi:

I'm just disappointed. There needs to be more fanfiction. And the last book had better make up for these last two, or I'm going to be very disappointed in you, Mr. Colfer!

...and hurry up on that movie. I know it's going to suck, but I don't care. I want it out already.

Are they still planning that movie? Please tell me they changed their minds about Hallie Berry and Jason Statham.

Atlantis Complex was a good book, in my opinion. It's obviously a set up for something else further down the line. I also wouldn't discount Minerva so fast. Just because she doesn't show up in THIS book doesn't mean Colfer doesn't have plans for her.

Artemis and magic....well...It was never that big a deal for me. I mean Arty's real strength has always been his mind. Magic isn't going to change that.
