Ladies and gentlemen, it seems that we need a new archive for fanfiction.

FF.net isn't deleting the fics that we reported in the Horrors of Fanfiction thread. They also don't allow lemony goodness.

AFF.whatever is usually on the fritz and only allows lemony goodness.

MM.org has certain issues, namely it's pretty much only for anime/manga, ruining people's formatting and users that love to add in as many series they can for a crossover.

Darkscribes has quality stuff, but the search function leaves a lot to be desired IMHO.

There may be others, but I was discussing the idea of an invited writers only archive site with Moshuel and Genocide Heart.

You would be invited to join if two or more existing writers recommended your work. Yaoi and yuri fics would be filtered, not banned, as well, I'm sure that some of them out there don't suck more ass than a liposuction clinic.

There would be a member system like FF.net so people can leave feedback.

Does anyone know someone that could design and/or host a fanfiction archive that like I suggested above? Obviously, we wouldn't want to pay through the nose, but perhaps with Google ads or some other sponship program we could get it to pay for itself?

Perhaps you want to see something added to the site's criteria for membership or posting?

Discuss!

Just to clarify Raa...

Only members can post stories and reviews, but anyone can read them?

If that's the case, then yeah, I'd say run with it...

Unfortunately, I am sorely lacking in the needed resorces to help get such a site off the ground... :(

Yes, anyone will be able to read the general content.

Adult stuff will require membership - might as well at least pretend to be doing something to protect the "innocent". :p

I like your idea but I have little to give other then mediocre stories to waste valuable other peopleÆs valuable time as they read it =D

As for suggestions, I always been fond of the tracking stat system, you know, how many people have read, how many accumulated words, etc.

By the way, what are you going to call this site? Are we just going to threw in HawkÆs Fiction or some such? Or something original like the following?

FFFYP: Fiction Filtered For Your Protection?
DANCES: Dedicated Appraisal Now Coordinating Entitled Stories
CONDOM: Coordinated Original Network Defining Online Mediums

Hehe, j/k

So lets see where this ideas go, neh?

This sounds like a rand idea Lord Raa, and I'd love to see something like that. I'd do what I could to help, even though as of now, I don't have any way of doing somethng like that on my own, and doubt that I could until either I get my home pc fixed, or, just bite the bullet and buy a new one with what I'd love to have on it.

I'd love to see a site like this, and will support it however I can.

Hmm, as for suggestions, I'd really like to keep the character selection dropdown form FF.net as I find that infinitely useful, also if we could have a drop down bar for 'banned' character, as in we don't want any fics with this character in them that would be amazing. And of course a yoai filter, assuming it somehow wound up on the site at all. Also the genre selection drop down from FF.net but with the selection of genres from MM.org as MM.org has many more genres available than FF.net.

About actually making it, well I couldn't, but I do know a guy... if you're serious about this I can talk with him tomorrow and have him set it up for us, hell I could even just have him show me how to do it and then eventually I'd be able to handle it myself, though it would probably take a little while for me to get everything down. But just let me know, if you can put together a basic plan or site map then I can get him to make it, the guy is a god on computers, he once hacked my school's intercom system with his cell phone just to give you an idea of how good he is.

Yes--it's rather hard to find crossovers on FF, unless they're in a category with "crossovers" in it. But, many aren't. You might find a LH/Eva crossover in the "Evangelion" category instead. So, allow writers to "tag" crossovers. Same with AU.

A new site? Sounds good to me.

Personally, I don't care too much. I'm not exactly all that picky about which site to post my work at, and ff.net always worked fine for me anyways. Another site would be nice, but it depends if people here are actually able to get it off the ground. As far as my experience goes regarding a forum and a bunch of people talking about making a new site for whatever noble purpose - usually, nothing gets accomplished and everything goes back to square one.

I can't do anything, so no help from me. The most I can do is wish the best of luck to anybody deciding to embark on this task.

I know... this is not the first time we are talking about this. The first time i brought this idea to discussion the greatest impediment were resourcess to pull it of. There are numerous free hosting sited out there but almost all of them lack the support they need for what we had in mind.

There would be a member system like FF.net so people can leave feedback.
A level system:

Level 3: Only for reviews.
Level 2: New members that can post.
Level 1: Members with full rights.
Level 0: The admins.

Maybe this time with more mobilization we could pull it off!

By the way, what are you going to call this site? Are we just going to threw in HawkÆs Fiction or some such? Or something original like the following?

FFFYP: Fiction Filtered For Your Protection?

I'm sure we can come up with a name.

I suggested Writers Haven the first time.

Well, it would be great if someone were to help us in this endeavor, but it will eat some of his time to build it, and some of the features are a nightmare to build.

http://www.rpgdl.com/

This site started from a bunch of determined fans who grew tired with the shittiness of the 'Bobbin Cranbud Playoffs' site, and made their own.

I was a founding member, though I no longer go there (had a nasty, nasty falling out with other members and dumped them, and I don't recommend going on the forum - there's a lot of assholes on it nowadays sadly).

I'm linking to it just to show what can be done if a bunch of angry enough, determined enough fans get together and actually WORK on it.

I say, go for it. We will never be as big as FanFucktion.Net, but we will have QUALITY shit. And we can easily get as big as Darkscribes, IMHO.

As for names...

-The Fanfiction Haven

-The Writers' Nest (referring to us having both a Hawk and a Hawker :p)

I suggest the name "Bloody Nose Writers' Guild."

Reasons? Two.

1) We seem to be garnering a reputation as Bastard Fic Reviewers from Hell. Smack the crapfic writers around a bit, y'know?
2) Damn near every idea, subject, and fic preview that gets posted either has citrus content, implies citrus possibilities, or has citrus possibilities attached to it by a following comment. Nosebleeds, de gozaru. ^_^

As a side bonus, it might turn away the weak-minded kids.

Well... I'd like to help.

this idea seems excelent, even though we still need to discuss those dreadful topics: design & implementation.

I know very little of database design, but I am learning.
so... just to recapitulate, who's on board on this? and what can they apport?

Does that mean we get to have Fall-From-Grace as our webmaster? :snigger:

I'm in, although all I can provide is eventual moderation help. I suck at programming in anything other than VERY basic HTML, so that's all I can help with...

Well, i think its good ideas. If you need any help with some some of the html just ask. I will help as much as I can.

For now though I can't do much, I have to find a way to get my old files and transfer them to my new pc.

I can't think of any ASP codes I could do without my notes or practice sites.

is the source code for fanfiction.net available somewhere? because aff.net originally looked almost like a carbon copy and I'm not sure if they just reverse-engineered it or they had it given to them.

I'm in if I can help.
I had already started coding the site, but had a few problems with the initial design of the database, and had a feeling all the writers would say something along the lines of "Why would I post my fics on yet another website?", so I stopped, but I can go back if you don't have better options, because I'm new at PHP programming.
Also, someone would have to come up with the lay-out for the site. I suck at designing lay-outs.

Oh, now that is a remarkable idea...

I second it.
Just who exactly is 'Fall-From-Grace'?

I'm in if I can help.

Meh if you can code a site then you're all ready a huge assett to us, anything beyond that is just extra, always good to have some decent site creators on board. :sisi:

And as for my 'friend', well let's just say that free time is DEFINITELY not a problem for him and that he would most likely see it as an amusing challenge to create a fanfiction site.

Free time isn't a problem for me either, as I work from home. The problem here is that I'm new to PHP and site creation. The reason I want to try is because it give me some experience with both.
