Can we all just take a moment...

...to appreciate the holiday break's effect on update frequency?

Stories I thought were dead live again- stories double, triple, and even quadruple update in less than a week! New stories, good stories, Santa is packing them all. Forgotten stories, beloved stories, old stories, they all get some love. It's like Santa is the Oprah of reading! You get an update, you get an update, EVERYBODY GETS AN UPDATE. :snigger:

Not as many as you are implying, at least of the 5700+ direct story links I monitor (even more if count ones I no longer have direct links to).... But I have seen a few authors doing something like that.

It was one of several reasons my own update thread here on the forum was a couple days late this last week, I was waiting to see if any others would pop up from the woodwork, so to speak. That last update has a much larger than normal number of older stories on it.

Of ones I monitor, honorable mention this last update I did goes to:

Vimesenthusiast updated a couple Ranma crossover stories I follow that were actually complete ( 'Destiny Vs Chaos' , 'Chaotic Space' ) with previews or 1st chapters of the next arc. I would have preferred he do that as separate story entries on FF.NET, not attach them to completed arcs, but the content *is* wanted nonetheless. We were warned by author that not much was to be happening in those stories for some time. He did say he also had at least the next chapter plus outlined of his Ranma/Mass Effect crossover, but it was not written as yet since he had been concentrating on the newer stories of his, which I understand, but is a pity, as I really do not care for those as much personally.

druth updated 'Journey', a very old Ranma crossover story, which I had thought was dead. Though it was a fairly small chapter, small is better than nothing.

mdizzle updated his Ranma/Mahoromatic crossover called 'Maho Staring Ranma', which was a surprise. Also a small chapter, but small better than none.

Shadou Fireborn updated the Ranma/Sailor Moon multi-crossover 'Millennial Panic' some 3 times or so this month, I was made to understand it had been some time before that it was last worked on.

MrQuestionMark's TMNI story was not dead, but after months of teasing his readers with fake updates he kept deleting and replacing, he supposedly released the real chapter 58 of his story called 'A Certain Unknown Level '0'.

Neoalfa's FSN story called 'Path of the King' updating is suspicious in that it was within I think 1 day of being a year, which is when I normally declare a story dead. Pity he did not issue a upfate for the Love Hina/FSN crossover as well. But I'll take what has been released gladly nonetheless.

Deathwish911's ZNT/FOZ story called 'A half-elf's wish' I'm not exactly sure offhand when it last updated before that, it had been a bit though.

There were more in the last two months than the above, that has only been since the 22nd or so.

Congratulations to all of the above for their resurgence on stories... hopefully it will not be as long until the next updates.

I keep track of a hell of a lot more than 5700 stories

Which would explain your statement of it being so many authors and stories. No worries, I am fully aware there are people that read more than me.

As of my last check, I also track
- 5 distributor sites
- 35 hosting sites and category links on those sites (for things like AMV updates)
- 370 series pages
- 13 old series specific sites (mostly dead)
- 6 old series specific shrine type sites (mostly dead)
- 12 forum group sites, like here
- 2 story specific forums
- 47 miscellaneous sites (mostly dead)
- 49 story categories on archive sites like FanFiction.NET
- 7 large general archive sites like FanFiction.NET
- 765 AMV's

EDIT: Oops,, I noticed the above numbers are form the filtered listings I send out, not the full uncensored ones I use internally, those numbers are all slightly higher, but it really makes no difference. overall.

One that I forgot about, mainly because it is old author specific site story posted for first time on the FF.NET account, not technically a update.

Cloud Dreamer posted Sailor Mom to FanFiction.NET.
