So, this is a place for people to recommend and talk about comics they like, or bash on comics they hate.

I recently started reading Walking Dead, Fables, and Locke and Key, and they are all marvelously creepy.

Especially Locke and Key, I mean What. The. Fuck!? There is a definite reason why the Island they are on is called 'Lovecraft'. Especially the scenes with the running coach and her son.

And the scene where the Kinsey uses the 'Head' Key it forcibly reminded me of the Hunter S Thompson quote about fear:

"I understand that fear is my friend, but not always. Never turn your back on fear. It should always be in front of you, like a thing that might have to be killed."

And the scene where Dodge and Sam fight as ghosts, that was pretty damn cool.

I love it and the way it handles everyone planing against each other. I also want to find out what the key on top of the dresser is.

So, anyone else read anything good?

I love Sandman, and am currently looking for a place to buy 'The Absolute Sandman vol. III" cheaply.

Poison elves
A assasin elf in a grim/dark world. The original creator died around number 76 and I don't like the continuation nearly as much.

Cerebus
The tale of an bipedal aardvark. Starts as a sword and sorcery moves to a political satire and then into a philosophical work. A great read throughout.Edit(Apparently it's also the longest running english comic book by a single creative team at 300 issues.)

JLI Justice League International
A justice league that deals more with the hilarious interactions of the members than threats to mankind.

Deadpool. Everyone should read Deadpool. Both regular, and Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth. He's Hilarious, he's good at fighting, and next month he teams with Spiderman! Hooray!

Also, on a less awesome but still pretty good series, I've recently gotten into Vengence of the Moon Knight. It's very good so far, and it's been a nice change from the usual angst angst stab stab of regular Moon Knight.

I'd like to recomend:

Hack/Slash, This is about a girl who goes after horror movie esque 'slashers'. Beautiful artwork...

The Boys, This is about a group of otherwise normalish military types who keep the superheroes from going too far...

Grimm Fairy Tales, The artwork alone makes me want to recomend this comic and all the related comics. It starts off as a series of one shots going into a darker version of popular fairy tales but it soon comes into a story of its one. And a great story at that..

Knights of the Dinner Table, This is a comic about a bunch of tabletop d20 nerds and the situations that they and their characters get up to.. You don't read this for the artwork, there isn't much, but you do read it for the hilarious story..

The Incredible Hercules, this is about the Marvel adaptation of Hercules and is pretty damn funny. Amadeus Cho quickly became one of my favorite characters after reading this...

Crossed, this is about a group of people trying to survive in a zombie apocolypse esque world... pretty grim but definatly worth a read..

Well let's see. Sandman was already mentioned, so how about:
  • Lucifer
  • Preacher
  • Hellblazer
  • The Darkness
I think those are the only ones I actually like enough to buy.

Y: The Last Man is a good read as is New Frontier, Justice, Kingdom Come, and the new Green Lantern series. Blackest Night is apparently getting really awesome now. I wouldn't know though since I'm waiting until it comes out on paperback to read it all in one sitting.

Lessee, new Blue Beetle and Booster Gold are fun too. I don't really have much to offer on the Marvel side of things besides Incredible Hercules. The relaunch of the Mighy Thor was okay for a bit, but I'm of the opinion that it's gone downhill a lot. Red Hulk is pure shit. A lot of people apparently enjoy Annihilation and it's sequel, Conquest, but I personally can't stand the stuff. Oh! There is the new Hulk stuff that focuses on his son. That's fun. The Immortal Iron Fist stuff is good too.

Go read some Fables NOW though if you all haven't. One of the best comics out there right now. It's spin off of Jack of Fables is good too.

Oh, Fables, I love you so, let me count the ways.

1.) Bigby Wolf Local Sherif/Detective vs Infamous Madman/Swordsman Bluebeard.

2.) Revolutionary, Bear Fucking, Sniper Goldilocks

3.) Reginald the Fox vs Sherr Khan the Tiger

4.) Dragon Crow

5.) Filanderer Prince Charming

...and oh so many more.

I guess spoilers for those who don't know

Y: The Last Man disappointed me at the end. It felt like the storyline was drawn out after the group got to Austrailia and started making plans to go to Japan and finding out what the cause was.

After about the third volume the story lost it's novelty with me. Probably because up to the third volume just dealt with Yarick adjusting to his lot in life and was mostly about the various screwed up situations he got himself in.

Then there was the fact that every girl that Yarick had a chance to really develop feelings for on his trip ended up dead (355, the recovering crack addict, and the Heroin smuggler).

I don't think there was a major character that didn't have suicidal thoughts at one point (didn't really sell me).

Add to the fact that at the end his whole reason for going through everything, traveling all around the world ended up being for naught because he decided to dump the girl he'd been pursuing for the girl who's been with him throughout the entire trip. Add to the fact that in the very next chapter the girl he picks gets killed for no good reason other than to try to comply with another characters suicidal thoughts. He doesn't even get together with the girl he'd spent five years looking for and instead goes with the girl he met at a church who he got pregnant.

Really it was a good story, but it petered out in the end and personal preferences made me annoyed in the end. Read it and there's a good chance you'll enjoy it.

The best part would be at the end of Volume 3 when the traveling troupe of actors put on a play called The Last Man. The main character (who's life is paralleling the main character in the play) walks into the playhouse and watches part of the play and gets the general rundown of the plot while looking for a monkey he's watching. He needs to leave so he asks the director how the play ends and gets a response to the effect that the Man commits suicide because he was screwing things up too much for the woman. The main character makes a comment about how it's a dumb ending, then leaves. Really it's funnier on page.

I recently got a few Hellblazer Trades, I shall be reading and commenting on them very soon.

Either that or Transmetropolitan.

I've quite enjoyed Artesia. For those not familiar with the series, it's a fairly serious fantasy adventure focusing on the titular Artesia, a concubine/warleader and witch who could have attained great spiritual enlightment if she hadn't decided she enjoyed warfare and pleasures of the flesh more. Medieval politics and warfare with quite a lot of mysticism. NSFW.

Angel: After the Fall is looking awesome.

It opens with him getting over run by female demons while having an inner monologue about how he tried to change W&H, and just as it looks like he's gonna die:

'I am only one man.'

*HUGENOURMOUS BLAST OF FIRE*

'One man with a very large Dragon.'

Damn! Gunn is a serious Bad-Ass.

Also:

"I need you to go to Wolfram and Hart. Get my Dragon."

LOL.

When did the Hulk (in the comics) start speaking?
Right from the start, though his speech patterns have changed over the years. He wasn't all "HULK SMASH!!" when he first started out, and in his first appearance, he was gray.

One old series I bought off ebay some years ago was Strikeforce: Morituri.

An interesting premise: As earth is at war with an alien race, sciencitists come up with a process that gives people superpowers. However, the powers are random, and the process will kill them within a year.

A great series for it's time.

Which version?
The one from World War Hulk
A LOOOONG time.

Everyone one of the Hulks, Grey, Red, Green, Meistro, Professor, has been able to talk, in fact I think only one of the Hulks hasn't been able to talk. The only thing is how good they were at talking.

yah know as opposed to starting a new thread I'll enquire here. DCU(and well marvel as well) has dissappointed the heck outta me but over at another forum I frequent I've seen some rather positive discussion about Terra, PG's new sidekick/partner(let's face it, the thought of hooking PG up with ANYHTING sexy and female is gonna bring the fanboys out in droves) and while surfing amazon I noticed that she has her own TPB out, sooo can anyone comment about it? give me some background, wether DCU has dropped the ball again? I ask cause I'm tempted to pick it up as the cover art and some of the art up on the net of Terra looks pretty good and I'm notorious for picking up series if the art is good even if the story/dialog is weak or well if the story/dialog is strong and the artwork is weak I'll follow it. but heck before I spend money I wanted some feedback.

nextup I just noticed today is Black Lightning: Year One. I used to be a HUGE Black Lightning fan. he's been handled well in the past and I liked that even though he's a low end to moderate end meta, a lot of what gives BL his edge is that he's a damned good street detective and martial artist. but well DCU has relaunched other titles/characters to craptacular results(I.E. the retcon of Blue Devil and Kid Devil, I still rage about that). so anyone read the new series and can you give the low down on it?

Personally I recommend the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic comic book series by John Jackson Miller because of the enjoyable cast and all those red herrings John Jackson Miller throws around.

Just too bad the series ended with issue fifty :blue:

Hope Knight Errant will be as fun though due to the fact that the galaxy is really in chaos this time.
