Okay, here's the rules for this game.

You have a limit of eight slots. You can choose ANY Marvel Comics mutant you like, with only one exception - you cannot choose any of the original X-Men or the new X-Men. That would be:

-Professor X
-Cyclops
-Angel in any incarnation
-Beast
-Jean Grey in any incarnation
-Iceman
-Storm
-Wolverine
-John Proudstar
-Havok
-Colossus
-Nightcrawler
-Sunfire

Everyone else is fair game. Remember, only 8 slots, including the mentor figure if you choose one. You can also mix and match mutants from different time periods, regardless of age.

Here's my lineup.

Caliban
Dead Girl
La Lunatica
Darwin
Sabra
Cloak and Dagger
Spiral

...yes, Cloak and Dagger ARE mutants.

Thoughts on my picks?

Heh....I think I will go with a theme here if you don't mind

Emma Frost
Cable
Nate Grey
Exodus
Stepford Cuckoos
Rachel Summers

Why those people you ask?......because together they give the word "mindfuck" a whole different meaning..... :snigger:

Aren't Cable, Nate Grey, and Rachel Summers all children of Scott and Jean, pretty much? I know one of them is actually a child of a Jean *clone* but it amounts to pretty much the same thing.

A team with very different possibilities:

Apocalypse (advisor, no public role)
Magneto (public leader)
Shadowcat
Mystique
Rogue
Gambit
Jubilee
Cypher

Howzat?

Nice. It's diverse and has two brilliant minds at the helm.

For mine, I went with variety. La Lunatica is the token 'I mess with your mind' type. X-Men 2099 needs more love. And I honestly couldn't do without Spiral.

The overpowering unstoppable team

Squirrel Girl (Yes, she's a mutant.)
Franklin Richards

Yeah, good luck taking them down with anyone short of Galactus.

When I read the thread title, I thought you wanted us to create a mutant, I was ready with one who absorbs strong emotions and turn them into physical strength and durability. With the sheer amount of angst around Xavier's mansion, I figure this guy would be strong enough to go toe to toe with any flavor of the Hulk you'd care to name in about a week.

Well, that does assume Franklin gets to control those powers. They are so out of control and overly powerful that even Reed Richards was unable to rein them in. In fact, Franklin himself isn't sure how they work. Most of the time they do random stuff.

So Franklin can be an asset or a huge pain in the rear.

Squirrel Girl is hard to argue against, though. Although I suspect she'd lose to Gibbon. Her chances of victory seem to be directly proportional to her enemy's threat level... :p

My team, I think, could do a lot of different things.

Apoc, of course, should have conquered the world in any number of universes just because he's an insanely powerful and brilliant mutant who's been around for thousands of years. In most timelines, he should have had pretty much no opposition.

Magneto is possibly even more brilliant and powerful and could do *so* much good if he wanted to...I think this was shown in a timeline without Xavier. Between his and Apoc's minds and their powers they ought to be able to build damn near anything.

Shadowcat can become intangible and I believe she is (was) a master computer hacker in at least one timeline. Put her to work with Cypher and basically anything computerized is theirs for the taking/control.

Mystique's shapeshifting has tons of possibilities.

Rogue at her peak I believe can use any power from any mutant she encounters. This could make her a real force. Even with just her base powers she still is dangerous and worth a look.

Jubilee adds another energy-wielding powerset, but I believe she registers null on mutant scans and telepathy radar, if that hasn't been taken away. Apoc and Magneto could probably figure out why and make very good use of it.

Gambit is kind of just an add-on but he's not a bad one, potentially, with how his powers work.

What about mutates that were actually with the X-Men at one time or another?

Shadowcat as leader. She was considered a possible leader years ago during one of her runs. She has aged and matured since then, and I think has a diverse enough number of talents to really excel in the role.

Jubilee as ranged support, with all of her powers. Including invisibility to electronics and telepathy.

Gambit.

Sage

Psylocke, the resurrected telekinetic version.

Forge for stategic support

Emma Frost for telepathic support

Bishop

Havok is in the 'not allowed' list. Sorry.

No mutates. Only actual mutants.

Jubilee as ranged support, with all of her powers. Including invisibility to electronics and telepathy.
Wasn't invisibility to electronics a side effect of the X-Men's 'deaths'? And Jubilee was one of the few who DIDN'T have it?

No, it was one of the powers she possessed when she was first created. It was almost immediately forgotten though. Never retconned though, at least until she lost all of her powers.

What do you think of my team though GH? How would it stack against other canon versions of the X-men?

Looks solid. Should be able to handle most threats one way or the other.

No mutates. Only actual mutants.
Then wouldn't that disallow your pick of Cloak and Dagger, since they're mutates as well?

No they're not. They were mutants whose genetic abilities were activated by a variant of heroin.

Yeah, in their case their mutant power was there all along, and the shock from the drug OD they went through triggered it.

Most mutants tend to first unleash their power through some sort of trauma first. There are exceptions (usually mutants whose changes are physical, not stuff like energy bolts and all), but most mutants have those powers triggered. Hell, some people can go their whole lives having no idea they ARE mutants at all.

Omega Red
Selene
Spiral
Frenzy
Copycat
Exodus
Black Tom
Domino

Edit: Do they all have to be living currently? If not, I'd replace Marrow with Copycat.
Edit2: Marrow replaced.. just realized this looks more like a supervillain team than X-men. Oh well.

As long as they aren't in my DO NOT USE list, anyone is fair game, be they dead or alive.

I'm fairly sure Marvel's dream-team would consist of
Wolverine x 8.

But mine. Let's see...

Jubilee (Team Leader, heavy firepower)
Rogue (Tank)
Shadowcat (Stealth, bruiser)
Monet St. Croix(Bruiser)
Emma Frost (Psionic)
Rachel Summers(TK)
Magik(Support)
Domino (Support)

Good mix of powers and experience.
... Yeah, I'm on the X-men femslash list, why?

Um. Monet is a psychic, among other things. How the hell is she a bruiser? She used to be when she was Penance, I guess...
