A couple of weeks back, I bought a box set of the Deathnote Manga. While going through it, A couple of questions came up.

1. It states that if a Shinigami extends a human's life by writing the name of their killer in the Deathnote on purpose, it extends their life. Is there a set amount by which it extends it?

2. Can a Shinigami kill another Shinigami by writing thier name in the Deathnote?

Those are answered in the story, but I remember it going like this:

1) It was more along the lines of saving the humans life by using the Death Note.
-Killing a would be murderer.
-Stopping or diverting an accident/event.

I don't believe there was any mention of actual years added to the humans life, though the numbers above their head may be re-set for the next possible death.

2)No. A shinigami dies only by using the Death Note to extend a person's life purposely.

Actually, there are other ways to kill a shinigami. It is mentioned that there are punishments, on a scale of 8 to 1 to Extreme, with anything over a 4 also including death after the punishment. I believe that one of the them was mentioning who else had a Deathnote, with a punishment of Rank 2 Pain.
I just wasn't sure if the Deathnote could be used on a shinigami by another.

I got a question what would happen if you had you're name changed would it stop the death note from affecting you're old name?

And if so would a name change counter the effects of a death note after you're old name had been written?

According to the rules, after your name has been written in the Deathnote, you're as good as dead. Nothing can save you, not even having the name erased from the pages.
Also, getting a name change should not affect the Deathnote. The thing about a person's name being needed is from old legends. Knowing a person's true name gives power over that person, as the true name 'describes' them.
Still, there is nothing in the books or the 'How to use' about legally changing the name. So I'm not quite sure. Still... thats what the Shinigami Eyes are for :evil2:

I just have the image of Light spending days hunting out this one woman's name for some odd reason, Finding it then just before he rights it she gets married and is now Mrs Y instead of Ms X thus rendering him back to first.
