Demon's Souls questions.

Yeah, finally made progress, so question time.

1) I saved Ostrava in 1-1 (cleared every part of the area he patrols of enemies, then proceeded past the fog gate and made sure not to die to avoid enemies respawning). He's supposed to appear in the Nexus now, but he's not anywhere in sight as far as I can tell. Anyone know where he is?

2) I'm a Templar. Any good character builds for the classic Paladin type?

I've never had him appear in the nexus. He will be in 1-2, then 1-3, then 1-4.

There's a very good paladin build that pretty much is one of the best builds. It's pretty simple.

1: Get a Mirdian's Hammer from 2-2 Miners.
2: Get a whole ton of holy/whatever stone from 5-*. Yeah, it sucks. Alternatively, get the Large sword of Moonlight from here if you like big fuckoff 2h swords.
3: Upgrade Mirdan's Hammer to a Blessed Mirdan's Hammer.
4: Beat 5-3 and get the Dark Silver set
5: You are now Jesus in Plate, kill shit.

As for stats, pump endurance until you can carry a good amount of stuff, then faith. Luck not needed. Mirdan's Hammer 2h is amazing, not so amazing 1h but still pretty fun.

Blessed weapons and Large Sword of Moonlight both have their damage boosted by Faith. Really, read the wiki to get better details since this is all off the top of my head. This is my build too, but i haven't played in a bit.

Hmm, which of the X-2 bosses should I take on first? I already soul arrow spammed the Tower Knight to death.
The Flamelurker keeps frying me rather easily.

I tried the Tower Knight and got utterly trashed. I think I'll restart and try either a Wanderer or Magician, so I can have some magic to compound my melee. I'm pretty good at Parry/Riposte now, so 1-1 should be no problem so long as I remember where the dangerous stuff (read: blue and red eyed knight and those annoying spearmen) is.

The Wanderer's biggest problem is that his Faith is truly terrible. Miracles won't be an option until much later, which is painful if you count on that Exit spell for farming.

OTOH; female magic users get a set of very good armor in the Ragged Old Robes set right in 1-1, not to mention all the rings all over the place... Royals start with a rare ring, but Magicians have an easier time surviving, can get a rapier themselves (yay Mail Breaker soon after the start), and have an antifire spell, which can come in handy against those asshole zombies using fire swords.

Also, lol @ the dragons. Seems like getting everything but the Ring of Great Strength is sinfully easy after all - just lure the damn thing to the bridge, and soon as it starts spewing fire run back and loot one or, if you feel daring, two items, then run like hell to the ditch to the left of the blue dragon.

The hardest part of 1-1 is keeping Ostrava alive if you get killed - the enemies in his patrol path respawn, which means he can get horribly raped by them if you take too long getting back to him.

Ostrava dying is no problem. Just loot his corpse for the key and you're gtg until the next game.

Only men can wear the dark silver armor. Pissed me right off...

Parry/Riposte is ok, but i've never really used it. Never had to.

Literally Flamelurker, world 2 in general, is the best place to go after you beat tower knight. Easiest last boss, A great sword so long as your tendancy is white, reaching flamelurker is easy, etc. His weakness is magic too. Try getting water veil or protection, meleeing him is hard.

World 5 is the worst world no matter what. World 4 is one of the most neutral places as well. Bring a mace or morningstar or mirdian's hammer, and it's fun. World 3 is almost as bad as world 5, except 3-1 is actually fun. 3-2 is hell, hellish bosses and hellish area. Ugggh.

Next character i make is an archer... will be pretty interesting...

World 5 is easy as long as you wear the Old Ragged Robes - which have a monstrous bonus against Plague. The full set gives something like 200 resistance to plague or somesuch...

You don't get plague until the last part of World 5. The swamp mainly poisons you.

That's not the problem, the problem is that IT SUCKS ALL FORMS OF DICK.

Also, lol, I noticed I put this in the wrong forum.

This is a time when HAVING an admin would be nice, to move this to the right one...

eh 5-2 the poison isn't the issue, it's the lack of rolling/real running that the swamp does. That's a problem when fighting the BP or the big trolls as no roll + unblockable attacks = 1 shot deaths in NG+.

dark silver is only good if your not doing a magic build as all of the gear increases magic resistance at the expense of magic damage. In the end generally the best armor is considered to be Ancient King (male) and Binded Cross (female) which are both light armors and don't have a stamina negative effect.

As side note Royal is pretty much the best starting class and is easily a better version of the mage starting class as they have magic arrow + mana regen ring which lets you plow areas in early game.

I run with a Faith/Magic build for my main but haven't played much since I platinumed it.

I hate World 5 oh-so-muuuch, if you don't have a decent long-range spell you are boned.
Fucking giant trolls are almost always in a place where there is no room for movement and they are FAST for their size.

I'm hating the bottomless pit area in 5-1 a lot more than its denizens. This is a world where playing at max brightness is necessary, because anything less will get you killed by way of pitfall.

After 1-1 he'll show up in 1-2. After clearing that and saving him, he'll be in the Nexus until you open up 1-3.

Blessed Mace is a pretty solid piece of equipment for early Temple Knights. Somewhere in 5-1, I believe. And miracles rock face.

The boss of 4-2 is easy (gimmicky), but a pain in the ass to get to. Flamelurker is easy with good flame resist (read: Purple Flame Shield + Ring) and a spear.

Latria is my favorite world, honestly.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU---

Killed the Gecko in 2-1, but it rolled off the cliff before I could grab its loot. D:

Woe is me.

Thank God it's not one of those who drop the unique stones...

Since I can't use the PS3 thanks to the damn Y2k10 glitch, I scoured the Net for info on bosses.

Then I ran into a picture of Garl Vinland.

So... is he as nasty as his "I AM THE MEANEST MOTHERFUCKER IN THIS FUCKING PLACE AND DON'T YOU FUCKING FORGET IT, YOU SORRY SACKS OF MEAT!" appearance seems to suggest?

Also, was the pic I saw just plagued by bad lighting or does the GODDAMNED MAIDEN ASTRAEA try to fry you with spells even if you don't attack her?

GAR VINLAND is unfortunately a slight pushover depending on what you do/use

Arrows will kill him easily if you're bow spec, he can block magic but certainly not firestorm, and he can hit like painful pain if you let him. If you kill him, Astrea cuts herself to death.

Or you can just arrow Astrea to death... then he cuts himself to death... it's only really hard if your intent on meleeing Astrea while leaving Garland alive which is just stupid, otherwise it's rather easy to gib either one.

World 5 has the easist bosses but the hardest stages.

This game has the best dubs. Every single one is 100% perfect spot on.

Astraea doesn't look like she's evil though. She gives off that 'well intentioned extremist' vibe that some people in RPGs give, namely the ones who genuinely believe the world would be better off with mankind or whatever race for it gone.

Garl is probably simply overly dedicated. He doesn't look like the other humanoid bosses who lost their minds...

It's neither. Her soul just evolved into a demon's soul, she gives birth to plague babies, but generally she leaves everything and everyone alone. GAR VINELAND is just there protecting her because he loves her.

And you need demon's souls.

Technically, the only thing you need is to stop major demons from feeding the Old One. Astraea doesn't look like the type who would willingly feed him, demon soul or not, so I get the feeling that killing her was wholly unnecessary, and that the whole thing (assuming you do it the prim 'n' proper way) was precipitated by Garl assuming you were there to slaughter her because you were power hungry.

Which may or may not be true. If your intention is genuinely to stop the Old One from snacking on Boletaria, then killing Astraea and Garl is wholly unnecessary and a giant waste of life. If OTOH you plan to side with the Old One and slay the Maiden...
