Sound Leader Sasuke and Sound Ninja Neji could make for a pretty badass fanfic. It would certainly be interesting to see S-ranks Cursed-Seal!Neji and Sasuke-who-absorbed-Orochimaru team up in order to hunt down Itachi, take out Akatsuki and eventually conquer the world, with a whole village of underlings to support them and do their dirty work. Especially if Neji's joining Sasuke in defecting results in some or all of the Sound Four surviving and becoming the generals of their army.

CherryBlossom!Sakura - A Sakura who basically develops her entire fighting style around her own name. She creates her own version of Byakuya's Senbonzakura, turning her chakra into razor-sharp sakura petals* that are entirely under her control. All her original genjutsu feature cherry blossoms as well, allowing her to combine the two jutsu styles.

*This was based upon the Kage Bunshin, Itachi's crows and Konan's paper technique as we can see that it's completely possible to use chakra to form physical objects/creatures.
This is an interesting concept, that properly developed, could be an awesome element of a fic. Does she do this during the timeskip, or might she start earlier?

MindLinked!Ino & Sakura** - Using Sakura as a test dummy, Ino's attempt at one of her clan higher level technique backfires which creates a permanent link between the pair's minds. They know each other as well as their know themselves and their personalities blend together. They're able to work in perfect co-ordination with each other that even years of teamwork can't beat.

**Recycled from the Badass Hinata thread.
Let's consider the ramifications of this idea. Suppose that it happens while they're still in the Academy. Their teachers (or Inoichi) would notice, which would probably result in either no 'Nidaime Ino-Shiki-Chou' team, or in teams 7 and 10 being grouped together as a six-genin team (except when separated for Chuunin Exams). If the former, who would be the third member of the team? I'm thinking Naruto, but that shouldn't surprise you, since I do occasionally 'ship Naruto/Sakura/Ino. Having Sasuke be the third member would be sheer torture for him, and could get damn creepy.

The ideal starting point would probably be during the Chuunin Exam training month. She's just resolved to stand on her own two feet and has a month of free time to train and experiment. Though I'm not sure how she'd pull it off in the first place; learning Yin nature transformation so she can master genjutsu and "create form from nothingness" for her cherry blossoms?

...I suppose that'd be right up her alley.

Honestly, a team which consists of two members who are mindlinked like that would make choosing the third member difficult. Trust issues could easily arise from something like as well as the feeling of exclusion among your own team.

Then again, Shikamaru would be unbothered and complements Ino's skills, Chouji's the typical nice guy and team muscle, Shino's an outsider anyway and has his own hive, Kiba has his dog partner, and Naruto is Naruto.

I suppose Hinata and Sasuke might be the worst fits. Hinata because her confidence issues could worsen by being the third wheel and Sasuke because I think he'd fuck up the teamwork, though that could depend on howIno and Sakura have developed.

Anyway, probably got the last batch here since I can't imagine I'll think of anymore.
I lied.

Uchiha Orochimaru – Thanks to how quickly the Sound Four accomplished their mission to retrieve Sasuke, Orochimaru was able to steal his body for himself and finally grant him the Sharingan. With his ideal body, he made all the modifications to turn himself into a monster; an impenetrable skeletal frame with bone manipulation, chakra absorption, molecular breakdown, nature energy absorption and the Mokuton. And that is just a precursor for his search for a method to unseal his arms and his desire to master senjutsu, staying out of Konoha’s radar to gather his strength and that of Otogakure.

Post Time-Skip Sound Five – Their successful mission of retrieving (read: kidnapping) Sasuke ensured there were no casualties among their group and they returned to Orochimaru’s side to continue their bodyguard duties. Kimimaro survived thanks to Karin’s life-force and a breakthrough from Kabuto and so her and the other four broadened and improved their skill-set. Already considered Orochimaru’s best shinobi, their skills grew over the next few years to form an elite fighting unit. They even trained the curse seal experiments into a dangerous force, turning Otogakure into a power on par with any of the Great Hidden Villages.

Kumogakure Sasuke – In the aftermath of the Uchiha Incident when Konoha was several weakened by the loss, Sasuke was stolen away from the hospital by a Kumo-nin. Taken to Kumogakure, they took advantage of his mental instability and Sasuke was brainwashed into becoming one of their loyal shinobi. His talents were perfect for Kumo’s preferred fighting style, kenjutsu and nintaijutsu, and his bloodline was greatly sought after.

Snake Sage Sasuke – After defected to Oto, Sasuke knew he would need to kill Orochimaru. He decided to communicate with the snake summons to see how loyal they are to Orochimaru. This eventually lead to him being summoned to their domain and granted an audience with White Snake Sage. In exchange for their service, he would save them from Orochimaru’s tyranny. And thanks to the curse seal he’d been branded with, Sasuke was one of the few eligible candidates for learning senjutsu and the next few years involved slow and steady training for him to become a Snake Sage.

Rogue Ninja Tsunade – Instead of gaining a fear of blood from Dan’s death, Tsunade instead gained an obsession with cheating death. She conducted her own experiments to create new kinds of medical ninjutsu and medicines for the sake of creating a world without death. During her last years in Konoha, she even worked alongside Orochimaru in his experiments for discovering everything about jutsu and immortality, performing all manner of immoral acts for her goal until they were discovered and forced to defect. Even then, she continued her work whilst traveling. Up until she met a masked man who offered her the world she was searching for.

Not sure how well a Kumo-nin Sasuke would work. So far as Kumo knows, Sasuke is one of literally the last two Uchiha, and Itachi is a badass S-rank psychopath they have little chance of ever capturing or recruiting and whom Sasuke has little chance of killing and returning to Kumo alive. Would they really allow him to become a ninja and risk letting him get killed in battle? Konoha had bad blood with the Uchiha clan and thus might not have been bothered by the idea of of the last Uchiha being killed in action but Kumogakure is going to have grand plans of rebuilding the Uchiha clan. More likely they'd try to brainwash him into forgetting about his revenge and living as a civilian, and give him huge tax breaks/paychecks and other motivations to start knocking up some women. If they really couldn't talk him out of his revenge (if the brainwashing doesn't stick and he threatens to kill himself or escape if they try to imprison him for example) then they'd probably at least demand he father a few children before going after Itachi, and offer him the help of their strongest jounin squad as an incentive to cooperate.

Snake Sage Sasuke would be a fantastic story premise and I'm honestly kind of surprised he didn't try that in canon. It would be interesting if helping to liberate the snake clan and becoming their savior awakened some of his atrophied sense of empathy and compassion and helped dull that hate-induced insanity a bit. Maybe he'd be a little less hostile to Naruto when they reunite post-time skip.

Rogue Ninja Tsunade doesn't actually need a change in her personality to be plausible, just a moment of weakness to be exploited at the right time. What if Obito had gotten to Tsunade before Jiraiya and Naruto did and he explained the Moon's Eye Plan to her, offering to reunite her with Dan and Nawaki in the Infinite Tsukuyomi. She may have refused Orochimaru, but Naruto had already gotten to her by then and she has a history with Orochimaru and knows not to trust him. Obito might have better luck with her, especially if, say, he convinces Nagato to resurrect Nawaki for real as a motivation for her.

So... Kumo bribing Sasuke with training, sex and help in tracking and killing Itachi?
Also, I think they would be more likely to giving him informations on the real state of the Konoha-Uchiha relationships at the time.
Also, given how the Kumi-nin are portrayed, one would think they(especially A) would totally fine with training the hell out of him to avenge his family. Possibly trying to gain another biju to try and make Sasuke its jinchuriki?

That... could work. I could see A offering to make Sasuke a jinchuuriki and him and B personally training Sasuke in nintaijutsu, and all they ask in return is that Sasuke father a few dozen children with all of these beautiful kumo-kunoichi. I mean, it kind of sounds like a bad fanfic self-insert but it's definitely plausible.

Of course, knowing what a complete bastard A is capable of being (Hyuuga incident anyone?) he'd probably also be planning to have an elite Kumo Jounin ambush Sasuke and Itachi once they've worn each other down during their epic final battle, rip out both their eyes and kill them. Because Sasuke is loyal only to his own hatred and vengeance and can't be trusted not to betray Kumo or go and do something stupid like attack a Hokage summit and unite all the other villages against Kumo for creating and unleashing a warmongering psychopath.

Frankly if Kumo allowed Sasuke to be a ninja they're retarded. They have what, for all they know, is the last 'obtainable' Uchiha in existence, and they want to send him not only on potentially fatal missions, but they risk another village doing the same as them and 'kidnapping' the kid.

The same goes for Orochimaru. The way he acts gives the impression that Madara, Hashirama and the Juubi container getting it on is of no concern to him. Obviously he thinks the end of the world would only be a slight hindrance to his plans. Why the hell then would he train Sasuke, instead of having him produce descendants he could later use. Time is obviously not an issue so he could wait until a strong enough Uchiha appeared while he made sure his technique couldn't be foiled by a pre-teen kid. Hell maybe use the 'weaker' Uchiha to test his technique first.

Orochimaru did need a strong body in first place, a body able to support the stress of Nature Energy. That's why he did train Sasuke.
And it seems the best way to strengthen a body is push it to its limits.

Also, it seems there isn't any kind of artificial insemination knowledge in the Narutoverse. I suppose we can explain it with the bloodline clans lobbying(and\or killing) to not develop such medical procedures.

We don't know if A was Raikage at the time of the Hyuga incident. Anyway, having Sasuke to defect willingly would be much better, as they could, in fact, gain a number of Uchibis _AND_ a potentially really strong ninja in Sasuke.
Especially if they can prove him the village was acting against his clan.
And they would still have YEARS before Sasuke is remotely strong enough to believe he could fight Itachi, a lot of time to have him realize he doesn't have to do it alone and there is more to life than REVEEEEEENGE!.
Which it's likely to be easy, as EVERYTHING had to go wrong for Sasuke to REVENGE! over his team.

You think everything isn't going to go wrong again just because Sasuke's living in Kumo instead of Konoha? Assuming that Kumo somehow convinces Sasuke that they kidnapped him for his own good because things weren't always roses and sunshine between Konoha and the Uchiha clan (remember, Kumo does not know about the planned Uchiha rebellion or that Itachi was a double agent), which is going to be one hell of a feat considering that Sasuke almost certainly knows about the Hyuuga incident, there's still some massive complications in all the people that have a stake in how Sasuke's life turns out. Danzou probably has Root spies in Kumo and he's going to want Sasuke assassinated or at least returned to Konoha. Itachi doesn't have blackmail on Kumo like he does on Konoha and he certainly also remembers the Hyuuga incident, so he might just show up with Kisame to kidnap a jinchuuriki and coincidentally somehow manage to meet with Sasuke and mind-rape him, the trauma of which will convince him that Kumo is too weak to protect him and push him to leave the village. And Orochimaru is still gonna want to mark Sasuke with a cursed seal and tempt him with power. Who knows how the fuck Obito will respond to this divergence. There's also the fact that Kumogakure probably doesn't have their own equivalent to Naruto who will bond with Sasuke as a brother, rival and comrade and help heal some of the damage of losing his entire family.

And that's assuming that Kumo doesn't really fuck up and try to mindwipe and brainwash Sasuke into believing he was always a loyal Kumo-nin, a move that will guarantee backfire when an undercover Kabuto undoes the damage and turns Sasuke into a double agent working against Kumo from within.

I was aiming for Tsunade as a dangerous criminal rather than just a rogue ninja; Psycho Tsunade may have been more fitting.

Gold Dust Gaara – Like his siblings, this Gaara was equally incompatible with Shukaku but was instead born with his father’s Magnet Release. Gaara’s in a much healthier state of mind and this focus reflects well on his abilities. And with his father’s training, Gaara became a fellow user of gold dust and the strongest ninja of his generation in the village.

Magnet Puppeteer Kankurou – Kankurou gains his father’s bloodline but instead of following in his footsteps and learning to manipulate gold dust, he took the route of puppet jutsu. Instead using chakra strings, he would generate magnetic force to manipulate the metal to animate them. As such, he isn’t limited to the number of fingers he has unlike most puppeteers and can control as many as he can mentally direct.

Mizukage Kisame – After Yagura’s genjutsu is discovered, Kisame is one who kills the Mizukage and assumes his position to ensure that Kirigakure remains allied with Akatsuki. Unlike Mei’s reign, under Kisame the village continues to live up to the moniker of the Bloody Mist and begins to gather military power just like Kumo.

Suicidal Gai – After Lee’s death from his failed operation, Gai chooses to follow on his promise that he would die with his student. He decides to take on as many S-rank missions as possible with the excuse that it’s necessary for Konoha’s jounin to be active after the invasion.

It is hinted in his conversation with Itachi that the only reason he supported Tobi is because he was looking for a place to belong. I would like to see Naruto gaining his allegiance this way, besides Kisame is more or less what I would imagine a Naruto in root to be like: very capable but ultimately emotionally compromised (which is what Tobi exploited).

Another interesting change in Kiri would be to have the 7 swordsmen to be a more cohesive group. Have them kill the third Mizukage and each of them manage some aspect of running the village afterwards. Since Kisame is the strongest he gets the title Mizukage (to show off to other villages and such), but in reality the seven of them are running everything. (Besides it makes sense, look what happened when their supreme leader went insane. Or when Hanzo went paranoid. Or when Orochimaru impersonated the Kazekage.)

Anyway these are my thoughts on Mizukage Kisame.

Kisame leaving Akatsuki would be a hard sell since the Moon's Eye Plan promised him everything he wanted; a world without lies and a place to belong. He was the only guy in Akatsuki (other than Zetsu, if he counts) to know their real aim and he was dedicated enough that he killed himself to protect his information.

Space-Time Master Naruto – Having been raised in the shadow of his genius father, Naruto decided that he would surpass him by becoming the greatest user of space-time ninjutsu ever. His intensive research and experimentation from a young age created a range of useful and dangerous jutsu until he finally created one that would instantly transport him from one place to another without a summoning seal; a jutsu even greater than the Hiraishin.

Wood Release Sakura – When it was discovered that Sakura, one of the numerous descendants of the former Senju Clan, was born with the Wood Release bloodline limit, the life she foresaw as an average shinobi was turned upside down. Instead, being the only natural born user since Senju Hashirama catapulted her to infamy within Konoha and laid heavy expectation on her shoulders. While she disappointingly lacked the immense power of her predecessor, she made up for it with sheer inventiveness and creating a whole series of clever Wood Release jutsu that redefined what could be done with the bloodline.

I've actually seen a fic where she had Wood Release on Spacebattles.

Martial Artist Naruto – After continuing to struggle to master basic ninjutsu for reasons unbeknownst to him, Naruto instead chose to focus on taijutus which was the only area he had no problems. This single-minded focus brought the attention of his upperclassmen, Rock Lee, and the jounin, Maito Gai, which set a significant change for his future career. His kinaesthetic learning ability, resilient body and impressive recovery power allowed him to advance better than anyone expected and more than that, he showed an unusual aptitude for chakra enhancement when his punches started leaving craters in the sparring ring. Few were opposed to his early promoted when he took the graduation exam a year early and found himself on Gai’s team.

Mokuton Sakura also means everybody in the know would think Team 7 was made explicitly as an anti-bijū team.

Renga Master Sasuke: After the massacre Sasuke looks for an alternative outlet than training constantly and an odd encounter with then Chuunin Aoba, gets Sasuke interested in the art of renga as a hobby.

Just a random thought, cause then there's the idea that Naruto gets involved as a way to surpass Sasuke even further and through sheer stubbornness gets pretty good at it. Then you have Naruto and Sasuke simultaneously complimenting and insulting each other via poetry while everyone who doesn't get it just stares on stupidly.

(If someone with enough poetic creativity actually wrote this, it would be hilarious if you posted it on FFN.)

On Another note, Mokuton Sakura, Space Time Master Naruto and Detective Sasuke would be an awesome fanfic.

An idea from a fanfic, where Iwa has the weirdest bingo book entry on Team 7, especially because it makes more sense than the truth:
Root!Sakura, Trained-as-Jinchuriki!Naruto and Anbu!AntiKyubi!Sasuke(who acts as a spy in Oto)

It's autumn. The academy students are on a field trip. The students from different classes are put together for a group exercise.

No-one suspected anything would go wrong.

But when one of the teams, consisting Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura, drifts too far away from their minders, something terrible happens! They're brought closer to death than ever before in the face of their enemy! And pushed to the brink of life and death, they drew out power they never knew they possessed.

With Naruto using the Kyuubi, Sasuke rediscovering his Sharingan and Sakura awakening the Mokuton, Hiruzen decides it's time for him to take on a more hands-on approach. And so Team 7 is born again under the command of the God of Shinobi.
