Despite of the festive spirits of those around him Severus Snape walked in a shell shocked state. He should be ecstatic, after all Lily Evans (She will NEVER be a POTTER in his mind) was saved. Yet the event that leads up to this joyous account did nothing, but left the traitor of the Dark Lord in a state of confusion.

Hopefully the man he was about to see can clear away some of the confusion. The thought made him straighten himself up as he followed the house elf to its master. His hope dropped as he looked at the disheveled state of a man sitting in front of him, but still he had to ask. í?Lucius what happened?í?

í?Severus?í? The elder Malfoy blinked as he realized he was not alone, than he registered what the man asked and his head felled into his hands. í?Ií¡ I doní»t know.í? Probably because he finally have someone he can disclosed his secrets to Lucius Malfoy started to recount his tale.
[
I]The Dark Lord Voldemort was just finishing telling part of his inner cycle of how after that night nothing will be able to stop him. When Lucius and Narcissa thought that it will be a great way to celebrate this, and strengthen their loyalties to the Dark Lord by offering their one year old son Draco to be marked as a Death Eater. Voldemort in a great mode after finally learning the Potterí»s whereabouts agreed to this, and the Malfoy being the first to offer such a thing was honored by not having to wear their masks as they watch this event. Just as Voldemortí»s wand touch young Dracoí»s arm an explosion erupted stunning all in the building and destroying all wards to the place. Twenty minutes later Auror arrived to find the body of the Dark Lord dead, and most of his Death Eater unconscious. The Malfoy latter awake in St. Mungo to the happy face of the Minister of Magic, telling them how their son was the savior of the magical world. And many of witches and wizards celebrate that night by toasting í?To Draco Malfoy, the boy who lived.í?[/I]

The changed prophecy:

"He comesí¡ He comesí¡ The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches ... born to those who have thrice defied him... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not ... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives ... the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will arrive..."

Defied how? Defied when?

How about before he even come into power. The Malfoy unsure of the wizard claiming to be a new Dark Lord struggled with him as he begins to seize power. They later redeemed themselves with Voldemort, but still they had defied him.

Now obviously the Malfoy will lose lot of influences with the Dark families because of this. But at the same time they gain a lot more influence with the Light families and even some of the Neutral ones. In fact so much so that by the end of Dracoí»s first year at Hogwarts that Lucius was having troubled wanting his old life back. Sure he has to be civil to the blood traitors, keep his opinions of mudbloods and muggles to himself. But he is gaining more influence and monies throughout the world, in fact there were talks about electing HIM as the next Minister of Magic.

There's also the issue of power. People always assumed that the Boy Who Lived was powerful. The Malfoys would get respect from that. And not everyone would see this as an act of the Light. Some would see this as the Malfoys wanting power and striking back.

Not to mention that Lucius Malfoy was, at least for the first few books, a dangerous sonofabitch to mess with. Perhaps not the best Death Eater for leading direct assaults (witness the DoM), but when it came to politics and intrigue he was one of Voldemort's best assets.

And now, he's one of Voldemort's worst enemies, because Voldemort wants his son dead, and Lucius is going to go with family first.

So now there's three factions in the war; The Order of the Phoenix, Malfoy (and whatever other allies he can make or suborn, like Fudge, various Ministry officials, other Dark families he can break away from the Death Eaters), and Voldemort. And the first two factions have a common enemy, but don't like or trust each other.

Could be very interesting...

Draco Malfoy the boy who lived
Don't know if this was done
But I do know it probably shouldn't be done. This is basically yet another "Harry Potter's sibling is the X-Who-Lived," only instead of creating an OC douchebag and possibly a pair of OC douchebag parents named Lily and James, it's using canonically established douchebags all around.

I suppose you get some points for that, but the general premise is still pretty lacking. People like Harry Potter, Boy-Who-Lived. Making him not the Boy-Who-Lived may make him happier and more well-adjusted, but it also makes the story unconditionally boring, because to be blunt, most people don't give a damn about anyone else except Harry.

And besides, this is Draco Malfoy. The only thing he has that's close to a redeeming attribute is that he's a coward.

Well, that is the basic rationale why he got his own happy ending. He was too much of a coward to commit murder. Like that made him any less evil.
