When Keitaro woke up, he could feel that something was not right. He sat up in bed, so his big fear of being tied up hadn’t happened. He reached over and picked up his glasses.
He didn’t need them to see, but they comforted him. They were his shield against an implacable and incomprehensible foe.
Looking around his room, Keitaro could not see anything obviously amiss, but couldn’t help but feel that there was something wrong.
He went to his closet, half expecting to find someone hiding in there. Fortunately, when Keitaro saw that it was only filled with clothes, he let out a sigh of relief.
As he looked for his clothes for the day, that relief turned to concern. The concern turned to frustration.
“Where are my trousers!?!†he asked as he pulled out his clothes and tossed them behind him. When it became clear that there were no clean trousers in the closet, Keitaro picked up the carelessly discarded garments and returned them to their places.
He walked to his dirty laundry hamper and searched for yesterday’s clothes. It wasn’t ideal, but at least this would enable him to go about his business for the day while he had another pair laundered.
Only today, it seemed that someone had stolen his trousers. Every. Single. Pair.
Keitaro shook his head. “Why? Why now?â€
Letting out a sigh, the ronin walked to his window and checked the current weather. At least it seemed like it was going to be a warm day.
‘I guess I’m wearing shorts today,’ he mused as he walked back to his closet. “What? No shorts either?â€
The frustration he felt turned to panic as he realised that something really creepy was happening. But at least that big fear of his wasn’t the case – that someone had stolen his underwear again.
That had been a very weird gym class.
But no, the gods had not completely forsaken Keitaro. He still had clean underwear and socks.
Just nothing to wear on top of them.
He pinched his hand to check that this wasn’t another nightmare. For better or worse, he was awake and had to face the day without being dressed properly.
“At least I’ve still got my glasses,†he sighed, trying to stay positive. He gathered some clean clothes and walked to the door for his planned morning wash.
Unlocking the door to his room, Keitaro froze as a disturbing realisation hit him.
‘Wait. How did they get in to steal my clothes if the door was locked?’
After a moment’s thought he shook his head and made his way to the bathroom. Hopefully he’d get a few more minutes of peace before everyone woke up.
At the very least, it would allow him to figure out how best to word his questions about his missing clothes.
