E3 2007

Not sure if anybody else is paying attention, but coverage for E3 officially began today, starting with Microsoft's press conference. Excuse my jitteriness, but I'll get to that in a bit.

It's all over various sites - Gamespot, IGN, etc. You don't need to look too far, really. E3 will be going on from the 11th to the 13th. It's shorter and smaller now, due to a few changes, but the same feeling and intensity is there. Seeing new footage of games - already announced or new - is always great.

Case in point - HALO FUCKING 3

I haven't even gotten to watching to Mass Effect (coming in November! 360 fans, rejoice!) and Assassin's Creed (in particular! FREAKING awesome) yet. It's like I'm undergoing some sort of Halo-overdose here, and that it requires me to follow Halo only at the moment. I'm very much hyped up, so excuse me if I'm a little...off.

So, is there anybody else following E3? Anything we're waiting for in particular? The Sony and Nintendo press conferences will be starting tomorrow, I think. I'm expecting a lot from Sony, especially, since Killzone 2 will be demo'd and not pre-rendered like last time.

Now, excuse me while I find more videos and drown in my own drool.

UPDATE:

Well, I looked around a bit, and I'll say, Microsoft's press conference was rather disappointing. There isn't much in the way of new footage of new games, but rather, minimal new footage of games people are already waiting for.

And even so, the Halo 3 trailer, despite the rush it gave me due to campaign details and all the fine rest, seemed to be suffering from very poor video compression. I don't mind, but then again, I want answers.

I will make a prediction that the Sony press conference will be better this year by quite a bit, that is, assuming they don't start late and don't accidentally start yet another set of new internet memes.

I liked sony's this year.

New PSP pack: Comes in black, silver, and darth fucking vader. Also with TV-Out, 1gb memeory stick, faster umd drive, 16% thinner, 33% lighter, and comes with Daxter (star wars battlefront in vader edition) and a family guy umd.

PS3's tags UT2007, Haze, as yearly exclusives, and reitterates MGS4's exclusive status. Killzone 2 looks incredible, as do all the rest of the annouced games.

Did i mention Chewbacca himself demoed the new Vader PSP? CHEW_FUCKING_BACCA.

Thats geek EPIC right there folks.

That's good for Sony. If certain games (MGS4 among them) make the jump to another console, that would be the end of the PS3.

Did they address the similar rumors going around about the next Final Fantasy?

I don't recall anything about Final Fantasy from E3. Hell, I'm not even sure if it's even there.

But, I'm sure it will remain exclusive to Sony. As much fun as it would be to see Final Fantasy on the Xbox, Sony wouldn't let it go.

to my knowledge, square never said anything about multiplatform. Most of those rumors were started by fanboys to hurt the ps3. Konami said a dozen times before now that mgs4 was a ps3 game only, but they did nothing to the rumors.

even if it lost FF13, its still got a ton of exclusives, like white knight story, folklore, and now whatever NC soft comes up with. Toss in the rest of the lineup and its looking good.

wii's hurting though. Besides mario kart wii and smash brothers, nothing else draws my interest. If those don't rock, then the wii goes to gamestop for 360/ps3 credit.

On the PS3 issue... wonder how long it will be before Rockstar announces GTA4? :p

And dammit, leave the Hot Coffee mod active this time.

Wow. You must really be under a rock to not know GTA4 was announced for BOTH the Xbox 360 and PS3. Now yes, the fact that it isn't a PS3 exclusive further shows the problems Sony has been having with the PS3, but... at least you can say that they still have it.

Of course, it's one thing being exclusive to one system or the other. It's another about for how long. Even the original MGS1 and MGS2 didn't stay exclusive to either the PSOne or PS2. But it was an exclusive long enough for their respective system to reap the benefits of it. So if Sony can't guarantee an 'eternal' exclusive, at least a time one is better than no exclusive at all.

And yeah, I have to say that while the Wii is still the number 1 selling system (more so than either Xbox 360 or PS3), the amount of games announced for it are, abysmal. Granted, what have been shown/announced are games I'd play but still...

And IMO, this E3 shows that Sony is on its road to a big recovery in 'fighting back' from both MS and Nintendo. First the price drop (Pre-E3), a newer, cheaper PSP, more exclusives (granted, you can say 'paltry' compared to the competition, but at least you can say that it 'has' exclusives), Killzone 2 living up to most of the initial hype (even if it took this long for it to show it), and of course, more games shown like GT5 and so forth, Sony isn't in that 'horrible' position to lose this race. Yes, they still have a LONG way to go. And by no means will this 'recovery' be enough for them to ever over take the Xbox 360 and certainly not the huge jump for the Wii. But given the huge stumbles they took initially, what I've seen of E3 from them is a big indication that they won't continue to flounder and let the competition win this one.
