fanfic -> manga/anime

I was up late last night wandering though the board and occasionally checking ff.net when I got to thinking about how cool it would be if they either replaced their canon counterparts or simply were turned into an manga/anime all their own. I figured out which one I wished was a manga...of course then I got to wondering what the people here would want...so now I'm making this topic.

The problem is with fanfics is that most of the time you expect people to understand and know the background already.

Making a fanfic into its own story wouldn't be as enjoyable without the knowledge of the canon, in most cases.

Would it work slightly better if the fic was to exist as, say, a story arc or side-story of the anime/manga in question? Therefore, it would still be part of the anime/manga, and would be accessible for those who are already read and watch it.

Essentially, most bases would be covered by that, I would think.

Of course, it wouldn't be its own anime or manga in that case, but I find fanfiction in general draws off enough canon material that it isn't technically it's own material anyways.

To be fair, I wouldn't know exactly about how it would work or not. But, I think if somebody was compelled to, I suppose they could almost make a doujin based on fanfiction - the closest thing to actually brining the fic in question to 'life'. Hell, if I had any knowledge of drawing, I'd probably try and get a few of my ideas drawn up.

But, I believe the actual purpose of this thread is about which fanfics we would like to see in anime or manga form. I've read a few that I'd like to see, but none come to mind as of now. If I'm egotistic enough, I'll say some of my fics, but I think I'd rather not.

*subtle wince* maybe I shouldn't have used replace when I was talking. What I thought I meant, though my fingers rebelled in the typing, was that it would be made as a sort of "this is how it should have been" or "this is your idea done differently".

It could become an Elseword Series, there still be cannon but there'll be AU's...

I've said this before, and I'll say it again - In Vain Doth Valour Bleed is worthy of being considered UC Gundam canon.

Something like this would fit that bill, I think.

Of course, something like Symphony of the Sword would also rule - more than one fan has stated they want interdimensional tickets to that dimension, even if it were only to watch some of the films and concerts in that 'verse, never mind the fact that the story takes epic to well over 9000!
