I know what you mean too. It's especially infurating when you point them out, and, either out of arrogance or they simply don't care, they keep spelling it a certain way...the wrong way.

It shows a lack of professionalism, and attention to detail. Two things I value above all.

I admit, I have a rather nasty view when it comes to people who don't always give their best effort.

So true. A lot of people dismiss detail as something irrelevant, but in truth it can make or break a fic. That's why I cringe whenever someone points out an incorrect detail in my fic. I'm obsessed about that, and feel woefully inadequate when someone finds out I overlooked something.

You all know how obsessive I am about spelling mistakes I cringe whenever I see one and just HAVE to change it, if I see anyone making a spelling or grammar mistake in my rants section (over which I have mod-control) I'll change it, that's just how much it bothers me. I have no respect for people who can't take the time to check over their own work before posting it.

Then I think you can imagine how much it bothers me when I make typos because of the steaming piece of shit that is my laptop's keyboard.

I swear, laptop KB's are intentionally made like crap so that you are forced to buy a separate one if you want to seriously write on the laptop...

Well duh, it's a laptop, that means it was made to be portable and not much else. If you want to do anything 'seriously' on a laptop you have to upgrade it yourself first.

Hehe, which is why I stick with my home system and just have my house ending up looking like Lain's, I'm already about halfway there as there are wires runnig everywhere through my house and I have any number of other PCs (no monitors hooked up usually) going at once that are hooked up to the others forming a sort of uber-network. Yah, I have way too much time on my hands.

Well, with all the manga I buy I simply lack money for a new desktop.

So in conclusion STFU and don't make me jealous. :(

Ahahah, but that's my job, taunting your opponent is a key part of Saotome Anything Goes Martial Arts and as soon as you slip up I'll be there to push you off the mountain. Remember, I'll be watching.

I don't follow Anything Goes. I follow Kill 'em Dead And Piss On The Corpse Martial Arts School. Much more permanent and effective. If Ranma actually bothered to KILL the hindrances, his life would've been easier. Get rid of everyone and shack up with Kasumi. Problem solved.

Which is why I'm not Ranma nor do I have his morals, and also I believe he did kill the Pheonix God guy that he fought in the last season if I remember correctly, I forget what his name was though.

He only killed Saffron because he was desperate to save Akane (who didn't deserve the saving in the first place), and immediately afterwards he was like 'OMG I REGRET WHAT I DID' even though he had every right to kill the feathered bastard.

Which is why Ranma needs to get a new set of morals, or preferably lose them altogether like I did. And for the record he should have just let Akane die at that point and shacked up with Kasumi, like you said.

Of course it's like I said. I'm always right. Unless you're Maddox, then you're always right.

Well when you're right you're right and you can't go wrong with Kasumi so...

Oh and take a look at my new member title, I find it appropriate.

You're not Maddox. You're not a pirate, you're not sarcastic enough and more importantly you lack the RUGGED WAR FACE that rips people's souls out of their bodies with a look.

No one can imitate Maddox. For your sin you will be punished.

Oh dear, shall I just give up now? ;)

To me, fanfiction is something that's just a bit of fun that some people take too seriously and others not seriously enough, which is why I'm probably more forgiving than I should be but I am of the opinion that every writer should have a pre-reader/editor, even if s/he's educated to the same standard that you (the writer) are because it is easier to spot the mistakes of others.

For example, the first two chapters of Everyday by my MSN buddy wonga316 does have some pretty shocking spelling and grammar, not that from chapter 3 onwards there's been a vast improvement :p

Hnn, yah I suppose that is true, it seems that some people take it far too seriously acting as if the stuff that they and those around them are writing is the sequel to The Illiad or some other such nonsense and then there are others who seem to see it as their personal dumping ground for whatever two-bit piece of shite that they can vomit onto paper, it's in the happy medium between these two extremes that you find the really good authors.

Yeah. I agree with both Lord Raa in that, since this is fanfiction, I'm not going to expect perfect grammar. Heck, if that was the case, than I would be guilty as sin when it came to grammar as well.

I just, want what you might call, a medium of sorts (something Israfel was alluding to I guess), while I'm not expecting a "sequel to the Illiad", I'm also not going to go for the pure shit that populate a big portion of FFN. And the the very basic level, decent grammar and spelling should suffice in any story I read.

Meh, my opinion is that if I write something, I might as well do a good job at it. Typos are expected, but I try to avoid them as much as possible. *shrug*

On a side note, one thing can be worse than bad grammar: overly corny dialogue written as a pathetic attempt to feel emotional.

I can tolerate typos, but too much corniness and I'll make like a tree and get outta here. If I wanted corny shit I'd watch Beautiful.

Agreed. I mean, I'm not perfect in this respect too. ;) However, if there is one thing I work on more than say grammar, it would be dialogue. And the reason why is so that it doesn't become just that. Corny.

I'll also add that I don't want it to be 'unrealistic' either (both to the characters and what they would say in real life). I can handle some bad grammar as long as the characters themselves speak in a 'correct' fashion. For example, if Belldandy starts talking like a high school valley girl, I'm out of there! <_<

True, I'd much rather have rampant grammar mistakes and great dialogue then corny dialogue with perfect grammar, because if it's just grammar that's the problem then you know that at least it's still a good story with an easily fixable problem but if it's the other way around then it's just a plain bad story so then you just pack it up and move it out, moving on to the next story.
