I measure my favorite games by replay value. No video game under any genre for any platform has ever had as much replay value, to me, as Final Fantasy VI. If I could only play one video game for the rest of my life, that would almost certainly be it.

Well now... not going to bother to fill up all the categories at this moment but it's quite obvious that you're a bit dedicated to RPGs.

A few more categories:

Turn Based Strategy.

Real Time Strategy.

Real Time Tactics.

City Building.

Economic Simulation.

God Mode.

Grand Strategy Games.
*small branch though.*

Massive multiplayer.

And so on...

I guess it depends on personal favorites though... no Sports!?

Sports franchise games have no replay value by market fiat, because they keep repackaging the same game with better graphics every year or three. It has to have a new name on it or people get bored.

Agreed. About the only sports game I like as of now is Pro Evolution Soccer.

I did forget driving games and puzzle games, though, so...

Driving Games

1) Gran Turismo 3 (PS2)
2) Out Run (Arcade)
3) Daytona USA (Arcade/Saturn)

Puzzle Games

1) Puyo Puyo (Genesis)
2) Tetris (too many platforms to count)
3) Bust A Move (Arcade)

Also editing my previous Strategy selections...

It depends on preferences. I'm not a big Sport Game fanatic myself, but i have friends that like to play them and they're not all the same.

Besides while games about a specific sport tend to remain the same, the fact that there are so many sports out there and so many games made after them offers quite a selection.

Strategy RPG

1) Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones
2) Final Fantasy Tactics: Advance
3) Advance Wars: Dual Strike
THERE WILL BE DEATH.

FFT:A is utter shit. It insults the legacy of FFT, and even Tactics Ogre is better than it by a large margin, despite being one of the oldest SNES games with a crappy PSX adaptation. Heck, the GBA Tactics Ogre owns FFT:A for free.

I hated its characters, hated its setting, ahted the storyline, hated the BLOODY FUCKING RETARDED LAW SYSTEM (yes, it's loads of fun to get the whole team redcarded because the random law generator put you in a battle with only beasts with the 'no damage to animals' rule. Die, Square.), and above all hated how it took a perfectly good setting and shat all over it.

And it was the explosive-diarrhea variety.

Now we return to your scheduled topic posts.

GGXX#Reload was released on PS2 too. I should know, I always use Robo-Ky in it. I find the names of his moves (almost all of them have 'Ky' in them) amusing, and he actually does a ripoff of JoJo in one of his supers, where he goes 'Damedamedamedamedamedame' while punching in succession (homage to Dio's MUDAMUDAMUDA).

Also, Disgaea 2 counts as a strat-RPG, even though it's more mindless powerleveling than any sort of strategy.

And finally, the first Fire Emblem on GBA is technically the seventh in the series - Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken.

Kickass. I'll still be waiting for Slash to hit the US before I buy another GG game, though; I played the import version at A-Kon 17, and I found the faster pace and better game/character balance to be a huge improvement.

I might buy the #Reload soundtrack if I get the chance.

It does involve strategy if you're not inclined to do a lot of powerleveling on your first playthrough (like me).

But, point taken. Bump Fire Emblem off, Shining Force to #2, and the NIS franchise to #1 of Strategy RPGs. For Console RPGs, #1 is Final Fantasy IV, #2 is Chrono Trigger, #3 is Tales of Phantasia.

Also, I remembered one: Action RPG #2 is now a tie with Seiken Densetsu 3.

And finally, the first Fire Emblem on GBA is technically the seventh in the series - Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken.
Ah, thanks for that. I could never get a straight answer before.

To be honest, I don't pay much attention to story in a strategy game. I mean, my favourite strategy game ever, Total Annihilation, practically has no story (except that it's robots fighting... clones in robots.) FFT:A I found had a fun little battle system. Granted it felt dumbed down, but it was still fun enough for me to play all the way through. The law system rarely bothered me, since you can check it in advance and plan accordingly, and I can't remember how exactly but I'm sure there was a way around the law against harming monsters.

More importantly though, I don't own a PSX and have never played FFT. Hence it isn't going to be on my list.

Why would you need a PSX to play Tactics??? I have the Playstation version, and play it on my PS2. Or can't you find it anymore?

Can't find it anymore... how? It was reprinted less than 8 months ago in the Greatest Hits series - one of the few PSX releases in the last 12 months, IIRC.

Mostly played PC roleplaying games of the dnd variety(BG, BG2, PS:T, NWN + NWN2, Pool of Radiance, tried IceWind Dale(IWD)/IWD2 but got turned off by the linear plot and overabundance of hack-and-slash.

Also played Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance. Couldn't find a copy of Soul Reaver. Actual Gameplay stank, but I stuck around for the storyline, which did not disappoint.

Tried my hands at some RTS(command and conquer, and later Starcraft/BW and Warcraft/FT. Culture shock there - reflexes were retarded by too much pausing in roleplaying games, but human intelligence will ultimately triumph over computer AI anyday, regardless of the difficulty setting.(this is why I don't play first-person shooters -_- ).

Loved Bare Knuckle 3 and Alien Vs Predator(the arcade side-scrolling version). Tried out the fighting games(mostly KOF series and Guilty GearXX). Might consider replaying it sometime later, if I can get my joystick driver to work(the darn thing just won't detect!)

Played many other games in between, but they didn't really entice me, so I am not mentioning them here.

Eh, while I thought Sonia was a decent character, the retcon makes sense. Legends was nothing but an attempt to milk the SotN cash-cow, and the plot changes it made to the series were fucking retarded. Trevor being the love-child of Sonia and Alucard is just...stupid and insane ("OH NOES, now all the Belmonts are fighting against their evil ancestor!!!" ....NO).

Don't blame IGA, blame retarded Alucard fans that want the emo-goth loser to be a part of everything in the series ^_^ .

Yeah, because Juste being a direct descendant of Sypha Belnades (who was a warlock, for the record - Warlocks use VERY black magic), not to mean an emofaggoty bishie yaoi fangirl fodder, is OK?

And even then, they could just have retconned CV's story with a female character. But no. It has to be YET ANOTHER fucking yaoibait Belmont prettyboy.

I'm tired of main characters who are fucking traps in Castlevania. I DON'T identify myself in an ambiguously homosexual guy with dubious taste in clothing, I want the rugged badass who can TEAR YOUR SOUL OUT WITH A LOOK. Like, a whip-wielding version of Big Boss. Not a pretty pussy who probably spends most of his time before a mirror like the latest CV mains have been.
