I am currently trying to convert my roommate to reading fanfiction and he seems interested but unfortunately my favorite fandoms are not really his thing so I am wondering if you guys have any recommendations for good Firefly stories/archives so I don't have to slog through the mountains of crap at FF.net or worse send him through it and turn him off fanfic forever.

I've only read two fics for Firefly. They were both pretty good, but I'd recommend you read a bit first to see if they are what you have in mind.

A Life Less Extraordinary A good Doctor Who/Firefly crossover, that somehow works. Set after the movie I think. It's been a while since I read it. It is just after the Doctor was separated from Rose and after runaway bride episode I never saw and hasn't gotten another companion yet.

The other was: Browncoat, Green Eyes A Firefly/Harry Potter crossover that is very good. Features a Harry Potter who lived his life on Earth, but kind of got really really bored. So sealed himself up up in a ring he gave to the Weasley family so that if things ever got bad they could call him out to show up the next Dark Lord. Too bad he wakes up centuries later to find humans have fled Earth That Was, and magic is... gone?

These are both nice long fics, 100k and 200k words respectively.

Forward is the only pure Firefly fanfic that I've enjoyed. It follows on from the movie but has Book and Wash still alive, which was confusing at first but it's a good fic so I soldiered on regardless.

Now... CONVERT! :ph43r:

There was a quite decent ST:TNG crossover, but I can't recall the title - Enterprise gets shunted into Firefly dimension by Q.

Thank you ma bruthers I am now off to preach the good word of fanfiction to all the fanficless heathens of the world. Testify!

Really thanks and I'll probably try Browncoat last because I'm not sure how he'll take Harry Potter impinging on Firefly. I figure once I have him hooked the excellence that is Nonjon's writing will be his gateway to other fandoms.

Mmmm, if Browncoat sticks, you might want to try Ruskbyte's Culture Shock. HP/Culture (by Iain M. Banks). Good stuff. Quirky sense of humor.
