In case you weren't aware, Spaceballs 2: The Quest for More Money just came out, and it's not actually called Spaceballs 2. It's called <a href='http://www.mangafox.com/manga/fate_stay_night_x_magical_girl_lyrical_nanoha/' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Fate Stay Night x Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha</a>, and the premise is that instead of getting Archer, Rin gets Nanoha and Fate. DON'T CLICK THAT LINK; it's pretty bad. It's exactly the sort of derivative hack work you're probably expecting.

So. To work through my feelings of annoyance, I propose replacing ALL of the Servants with MGLN characters.

Archer: Nanoha. JUST Nanoha.
Lancer: Fate. She's fast and her weapon is stabby.
Saber: Signum?
Rider: Ha ha ha, I have no idea. Maybe Subaru or something.
Caster: Yuuno Scrya. He's the most skilled magus in MGLN, with the most varied skill-set. On the other hand, Hayate had the strongest lolbeams. Oh frig! But Precia fits the "insane Yandere" mold of Caster the best.
Berserker: I wanna say Vita.
Assassin: ...maybe Chrono? He's got those evil shoulder-spikes.
Archer (Gilgamesh): Friggin' Scags. Instead of "Gates of Babylon," he has his kids (the Numbers).

Also, I'm going to say this, just to forstall the argument that's going to happen anyway: obviously this doesn't agree with Fate canon.

Weeell it's not that it's really all THAT bad it's just that it's pretty clearly a cold and calculated attempt to push otaku buttons rather than a sincere attempt to write something interesting or entertaining.

Yes, I was not expecting an EPIC story of love and heroes, all shiny and pretty. I was expecting something funny, something crazy, even some fan service. But seriously?

They were just SO BLATANT in bringing up all those supposedly "Moe" points that I am utterly disgusted! There wasn't even a viable storyline, just throwing them into a completely, CLEARLY, CONTRIVED SITUATION THAT.... AND THEN THEY GIVE THEM SPECIAL POWERS THAT MAKE NO SENSE AT...

I.. just... gah.

Am at an utter loss for words.

This one was actually pretty funny, but it basically kicks canon right in the kidneys. I don't think there are too many people on this board that will get past this basically trying to sponge off FS/N to peddle another transforming magical girl anime, even if the dialogue is pretty good.

Well, having calmed down after a good nights sleep and being in a state that allows for what passes for rational thinking for me, I have to admit that perhaps, my expectations were too high.

I guess I was just crushingly disappointed that it wasn't more than a blatant attempt at fanservice and that I was hoping for something more than the standard parody doujins from a semi-official source.

I mean, doujin should be viewed with the logic of doujin; it's basically fanfiction with pictures, also a way for amateur mangaka to show their chops and maybe break into the pro market. Hell, Type Moon got started as a circle, ya know? But once you go pro, you have to act professional.

It's not that it's bad and I hate it, it's that it's lazy and it makes me lose respect for the authors.
