Ganondorf, it's time to save Hyrule

"Power Overwhelms Wisdom, Wisdom Manipulates Courage, Courage Defeats Power."

Wisdom, however, alienated Courage. The circle, broken now, will eventually end up with Link at the top, defeating Ganondorf after he's taken out Zelda. I can only see this as a good thing.
Not necessarily. If you want to make a complete inversion, you can always have Ganon wise up from his past defeat and use underhanded tactics instead of being obvious.

Courage may defeat Power, but Power backed by cunning will more often than not result in Courage becoming foolish idealism. There's only so much Courage can do when the enemy is adequately crafty in addition to powerful... and hey, given how Zelda is backing her Wisdom with might, why can't Ganon back his Power with cunning?

Link already has his backing - before, he was always on his own, now he has an army. But overall, I don't see him winning. If he defeats Zelda, he seriously risks being caught with his pants down by Ganon, and if he tries to attack Ganon, all he has to do is back off and let the paranoid Zelda attack Link from the side or back - and since she's stated to have become paranoid, chances are she will seize the occasion. At which point, of course, all that's left is a weskened Zelda side and ganon's own side, and while normally Zelda would win in this inverted balance, the losses she probably experienced from Link will make it dead even.

Just my $0.02 on how a total inversion could go.

That's true... however, I don't see Link as making any sort of overt move. Gerudo are thieves, after all, and the natural defense of the desert will keep armies out of their territory for the most part. And the Gerudo forces are probably pretty small compared to Ganny's and Zelda's, so they work best as quick raiders instead of full-scale attacks.

As I said, his best course is to wait for Ganny to take Zelda down and then ninja their way into Ganny's fortress and take him out quietly. Once Ganny's down, his group is going to drop arms right there, and Zelda's newly conquered forces will submit as well... though Link will place himself as a liberator rather than a conqueror, of course.

As for being sneaky... all Link has to do is seal the Gerudo Village and force every supply wagon to be escorted in under heavy guard. If an army marches their way, it's gonna be pretty thirsty by the time it reaches the wall, not to mention tired of dodging arrows. By the time they reach the wall, the arrows will have stopped, and by the time they realize the village is deserted, the explosives will be going off. Or maybe a slow-acting poisonous gas... and of course, now they have to mount of break through the giant gate into the Desert proper... "Desert of Illusion" was it? That's gonna be fun to get an army through. And a monolithic temple heavily fortified beyond a field infested with leevers. Fuck'd yes?

Only way to get Link if he's cautious is to lure him out. Kidnap someone before he realizes there's another threat perhaps. Then he'll have to rescue them, you know. If he comes in force, you've got it made. If he comes alone, I figure Ganny's got a 50/50 chance.

Hm... they've got flaws too. Courage - Recklessness, Wisdom - Corruption, Power - Arrogance.

It can go a lot of ways. Hm... an interesting way to take it... screw-ups all around. Link's on thin ice with the Gerudo after a suicide attack. Ganny's army is swallowed by the desert. Zelda's army defects to the man, vanishing over the northern mountains. And it comes down to the three of them again. Drop an Item of Power in the center of the realm and watch them scramble for it personally. Or a rumor of an Item. A mad, boot-pulling scramble for the chamber where it's supposed to be hidden, reaching it at the same time and... nothing. They stand in position, and the Triforces are painfully ripped from them, forming together once again before vanishing in a shower of light.

You all just fucked up :evil2:

Here's a new twist for you guy to chew on since you are getting so into this but please wait a moment before you scoff and turn away from this post.

Set it in the modern world, think about it really quick. There are so many more ways to gain power and control in the modern world, legally too. Have Gannon go about taking over the world one buisness at a time but not even as an umbrella Corp. rip off. Completely and utterly legit in every way and angle. Sure he'd still be the ruthless bastard that we all know and love but he'd be honest about it.

So here we have Link and Zelda the only two people aside from the sages who know the truth behind Gannon and have to act as terrorists to stop him.

See another of my threads that should be a little ways down... or was it the misc ideas thread? Can't remember. Very similar though.

I've actually wanted a Zelda game like that for ever-so-long...I think it first popped into my head, oh, damn, something like six or seven years ago? After I beat Ocarina of Time, at any rate. Basically, Ganondorf having escaped his prison As Promised?, with Link as one of his descendents reincarnated, with Ganondorf becoming a corporate overlord, with Link as one of his employees, with Link eventually receiving his Destiny?, complete with Master Sword...but, sadly, everyone else has guns, and you look pretty damn suspicious with a sword strapped across your back. And everyone thinks Link went nuts because he got fired, claiming the presdient of said corporation is EVIL. Then they came out with Windwaker, and my exceptionally vague hopes were dashed.

I'd actually like to see a sci-fi Zelda... where the lightsabers fail against the Master Sword, of course :p

With Link, he may decide that Zelda's other powers would be just as useful to him as the triforce itself and decides to break her into his servant.

Ganon having a moment to think about what's going on around him, namely that Link has beaten him and his army several times over, while the army is now on Link's side of the equation...

Revived in celebration of my laptop FINALLY being fixed.

I think that I'll give this a shot now, but I have a couple of issues:

1. Need a beta for this. I don't think I've done any real serious stuff, and I'd like to make them attempt. Experience writing your own serious stuff would be nice, but if you read a lot of serious fics/published fiction, that's fine too. I just don't want this to get ruined by my lack of experience with serious stuff.

2. World Setting. The layout of the world tends to change from game to game, and I'll try to create a basic framework/layout of the land, but I'd like some advice, such as if the Kokiri should be included and similar issues. Not all that relevant to the plot, but I'd like to hammer it out before I get too into it, and have to start a massive rewrite in order to make sense/keep it on track.

3. Characters. Since this is going to be a new setting of Zelda, I'll need characters. Any ideas you have for characters would be nice to look over,both as potential candidates for inclusion, and for inspiration for character options.

I'll try to cook up a prologue in the next week or two, but since classes are about to start, I'm not making any promises.

Since this has been revived, a few points:

and some of the wisdom it contains is not made for human minds.
1.) No one in Zelda is human. They're Hylian's.

2.) The Goddesses give the pieces to those who can handle them. That's part of their function and purpose. So you can't really go all LOLNECRONOMICON with the Triforce of Wisdom without changing the entire verse on a fundamental level.

As for Ganondorf wielding the Master Sword, I was thinking something like this:

"EVERY MOMENT OF LIFE IS LIK A THOUAND AGONIZING DEATHS!!!" Ganondorf roared as he swung the blessed blade at the corrupted hero. He doesn't like using it, but he really doesn't have a choice.
You don't seem to understand. It's not that he won't, it's that he can't. Every time Ganondorf has come into direct contact with the blade in canon, Bad Things? happen to him. This has included, but is not limited to:

Being zapped by sacred lightning.

Being immolated by holy fire.

Having most of his magics nulled.

Having all of his magics nulled.

Being turned to stone.

And that's just from him being on the receiving end, nevermind actually trying to hold and use the thing. There's also the fact that the sword is specifically stated to 'retreat back into rest' whenever it's not needed, or whenever someone 'unworthy' tries to take it.

Soo. . . yeah. Ignoring the fact that Ganondorf couldn't even approach the sword in the first place, he could never actually draw it out. And even if he somehow managed to do that, it would probably disappear right out of his hands. And even if it didn't, the backlash of actually trying to use it as it is would kill him.

Trust me. Either Ganondorf needs to go through some serious purification and Good Guy training, or he needs to get himself a different sword.

No, the Goddesses give the pieces to the ones they find BEST SUITED to handle them, which doesn't necessarily mean they CAN handle them without ill effects.

Remember, Link, Zelda and Ganon are fundamentally mere mortals, while the Triforce represents the total sum of the Goddesses' might - divine power. In pretty much every legend where a mortal wields divine power, they can only use a minimal part of it before it starts exerting a heavy toll on their bodies and souls - because, simply put, divine power is not, was never and will never be meant to be wielded by mortals.

The Oracle games specifically mention that while in their mortal bodies, Din, Nayru and Farore actually are cut off from most of their actual power, because a mortal body just plain can't handle it. The Triforce is basically a direct link to the three Goddesses' power, so I'm fairly certain that overusing it is not going to have pretty results. Obtaining wisdom like, say, the true essence of reality will end BADLY for a mortal with the Triforce of Wisdom, because they still have a mortal mind, and some concepts just plain can't be grasped by a mortal mind.

No, the Triforce represents the residuum of the Goddesses' power in the mortal world. The Goddesses themselves are significantly more powerful than the Triforce. They just don't ever exercise that power (for reasons that are, to my knowledge, never explained, though I think it has something to do with them Knowing Things Others Don'tÖ).

so I'm fairly certain that overusing it is not going to have pretty results.
But your entire concept banks on the fact that someone whose very power is wisdom is going to do something as unwise as use all of it at once or delve too deeply into it. Even assuming you are right, it still doesn't make any sense, simply because anyone who has been deemed by the Goddesses as worthy of having it and actually has it isn't going to be foolish enough to overuse it.

Out of the three of them, Zelda is far and away the least likely to end up going mad or biting serious consequences for overuse, simply because of the nature of her power. Ganondorf and Link are both far more likely candidates for Triforce misuse (Courage twisted into plunging headfirst into the power without caution, and Power, well, that's fairly self-explanatory).

Maybe, but you must agree that for someone whose main 'power' is wisdom, Zelda does display a very noticeable lack of it in more than a few occasions throughout the series.

Furthermore, your argument kind of assumes that Zelda would be a perfect medium. She's not, just like Ganon and link aren't perfect mediums of their own power.

Link is brave, but also tends to be reckless. Ganon is powerful, but too full of himself to deal with menaces before they grow, as Link showed.

And Zelda? Zelda is wise, in that she knows of the world, but lacks patience in the long run. She exposed herself far too much as Sheik when a more prudent approach would have still worked and been far less risky in the long run, which makes no sense when she had the patience to keep a low profile for years. Apparently, Link's presence caused her to start acting in a much less wise manner...

By the way, I just noticed an interesting thing: apparently, the Triforce being the Goddesses' RESIDUAL power is only valid for the OoT continuity and TP. In the original series and LttP, the Triforce WAS the Goddesses' power, sealed away in the Golden Land. Ganon somehow managed to break the veil between Hyrule and the Golden Land and acquired the ENTIRETY of the Triforce, which massively corrupted him, as you can imagine. Neither Zelda (who was meant to be a sacrifice to permanently connect the Dark World and Hyrule) nor Link (who was just a very brave boy with no Triforce whatsoever, making him perhaps the biggest badass in the whole series out of the various Links) had a piece of it - it was all Ganon's, and the fact he could warp reality on a whim really showed just how powerful it was.

Also, here's a tidbit: Apparently, the Goddess of Courage is FARORE, not Din as one might imagine from her attitude. Din is the Goddess of Power, while Nayru is the Goddess of Wisdom. Makes sense when you look at the spells carrying their names...

Ain't that bit common knowledge?

Or am I missing something here...?

It is common knowledge or so I thought.
I mean in OoT the Deku Tree says Din with her Power forged the world or something close to it. It goes on with Farore and Naryu.

It is not readily apparent in the Game Boy games, which is why it may not be COMMON knowledge.

True Zelda fans play OOT. And read summaries/wikis/whatever else concerning Zelda.

No excuses, it should be common knowledge. At the least, it should not be uncommon enough to merit an "apparently blah blah blah..." like it was some kind of arcane secret only a select few knows.

Go tell that to the n00bkiddies who only played the GBA games/Twilight Princess because they are too young for everything else.

And yes, being too young to have played OoT IS an excuse. I'd like to see YOU as a three years old playing OoT. Or even figuring anything out about it. :p

It's unfair to assume that a 'True' Zelda fan has to be one old enough to have played OoT. There are some people who just haven't had the luck of being old enough when it was around. And Wiki... dude, you DID NOT just cite Wiki as a place to get information from. For a long time, some Link/Sheik yaoi trollfags kept editing Zelda's article to state she was NOT Sheik...

Tough. I'm not cutting them any slack for something so obvious, stated InGame. If they can play the GBA/Twilight Princess games, they can play OOT. Not my damn problem they're missing a major segment in the Zelda series. Frankly, they're out of the loop, rather than the knowledge not being part of the loop.

Else, I stand by my statement.

Oh wait, were you one of those kiddies who couldn't play OOT when it first came out? :p

And yes, I did not cite Wiki (and I'm assuming you mean Wikipedia here, what with the caps and all).

There's more than one Wiki, and the specialized ones are usually highly reliable. Particularly the Final Fantasy Wiki and the Metroid Wiki. Anyone who isn't Interweb n00bkiddy knows that. :p

Just some food for thought, what about a dual story?

My idea starts off in a slightly darker universe of OoT, in that the King doesn't trust Ganon in the first place. Eventually, in an ambitious move, a coup is launched and Ganon is forced off his throne, leaving the King (name?) of Hyrule as the sole significant kingdom with any form of military in Hyrule. As power tends to do, it corrupts, and the King eventually becomes more evil, and tries to seize the power of the Triforce for himself. However, around this time, a small boy from Kakori Village stumbles out of the forest...Into the arms of the royal guard. Eventually realizing that he is too corrupt to release the master sword, he eventually forces Link to take the sword.

Que Ganon, who has been hovering around stealthily, make a play for power by seizing the power of the Triforce for himself. Of course, he isn't fit for it's whole power, and Wisdom heads into Zelda, who likely doesn't live in the castle. If she does, she hides the fact that she has the Triforce. If she doesn't, her mentor keeps it s secret somehow. And the Triforce of Courage resides within the boy who pulled out the master sword, who is trapped by the sages like in OoT for seven years. The king, however realizes what the sages have done, and has them sealed away into their respective temples.

Ganon escapes into the night, utterly destroying portions of Hyrule castle and the nearby village in his dash to escape, high on his new found power. Zelda, meanwhile realizes her destiny, and begins plotting.

Seven years later, a surprised Link wakes in a chamber of soft light, staring at a beautiful princess, asking him to embark on a quest. Likewise, Ganondorf, emerging from the desert from whence he had been hiding, brutally slaughters the main base of the Gerudo in the desert.

~~~~
Wow, that idea kind of built on itself. I didn't realize how deep that plot could go, but it flowed out on it's own as I kept typing...
And the TL:DR version expanded itself too. Ops...
TL:DR version(with new ideas):
King of Hyrule seizes control of the Gerudo from Ganon, who hangs around, hidden by his magic from the King.
King becomes corrupt, eventually trying to steal the powers of the Triforce for himself. A few days prior, Link had been captured by the Royal Guard, and is forced to remove the Master Sword from it's pedestal.
Ganon, sensing an opportunity, steals the triforce of power. This action, however, sends the triforce of courage to Link, and wisdom to Zelda.
The sages, taking action at the last second, kidnap Link and seal him for seven years. Zelda (if she lives in the castle still) hides the fact that she holds a portion of the triforce from her father, or if she does not, her mentor does, bides her time until the destined Hero is ready to save the kingdom.
Seven years later, Zelda wakes with a start, the Hero is awake. She travels to Kakori village, and the Deku tree, dead for seven years, suddenly catches an azure flame. At the ashes, Zelda finds her hero.
Meanwhile, in a shocking and brutal attack, Ganon destroys the King's gerudo fortress, slaughtering those within it. Ganon had been previously training in using his newfound power, and has now set his sights upon the throne of the King of Hyrule.
Prologue part one, detailing how this Zelda was raised. I'm going to write a second prolgue to set up Link.
--- --- --- --- ---
A little ambition can be a dangerous thing.
It was ambition that inspired the king to raise his daughter, bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom in the way he did. He treated her as an asset, seeking to bring out the full potential of her dormant power.
From a young age, she was forced through the most brutal of training, both of body and mind. Each day was filled with pain, and each night spent in ceaseless study. She was taught by the greatest minds and warriors Hyrule had to offer.
Upon her seventh birthday, this abruptly ceased, and her care was transferred to that of the army generals. Her mind was flooded with military tactics and history. Within months, she was entrusted with a command of her own, and the enemies of Hyrule quickly learned to fear the icy gaze of the child general, and her fearsome soldiers.
On her tenth birthday, Zelda was relieved of her command, and placed under her father's care.
Zelda was taught that kindness and mercy were weaknesses. She was instructed in the use of military might, and how the ignorant masses were incapable of deciding the course of Hyrule's fate. She learned that only the strongest was fit to rule.
On her thirteenth birthday, her father finally revealed her destiny, and she unlocked the first vestiges of the Triforce of Wisdom.
She spent the next year learning the intricacies of her unique power. Dedicating her entire existence to mastering it. Her father watched with wonder, realizing that his dreams of an invincible Hyrule were close to being realized.
After fourteen years of ceaseless effort, combined with the strain of ruling a kingdom, it was no wonder he suffered a heart attack.
--- --- --- --- ---
ôYour highness.ö
ôYes?ö she responded, not looking away from the window, her eyes fixated on the waning moon.
ôYour father has died.ö
ôI see... please make the necessary preparations for my coronation immediately. Hyrule cannot afford to be without a legitimate ruler for long.ö
ôYes, my lady.ö
As her servant departed, Zelda allowed a cruel smirk to grace her face. Almost sarcastically, she bowed her head in prayer.
ôI apologize father, but it as you taught me. A weak ruler serves no purpose when there is a stronger candidate in line.ö
