Well, if you look at it in historical context, it does sound rac...ist...
OH MAH GAWD! I'M USING
LOGIC!
*runs off*
Slaves picked cotton.
Not only that, but why are people still hung up on that? There have been slaves throughout history, yet we only hear about the african ones. Fuck, in a certain part of Sparta's history, there was a 1:8 citizen/slave ratio. Why don't we hear about that? Certain parts of Spartan history are more badass than most of the 300 movie, we need more Spartan stuff.
Then there was Native Americians enslaved by the settlers.
Wasn't that only the Spanish/Portuguese? I dunno, I'm pretty sure the U.S. peeps didn't do it. Though history IS written by the victor.
It wasn't the U.S. back then. Back when the colonies were being established, yes there was Native Americian slaves. It took most of them dying to convince the settlers to look elsewhere to find a new labor force.
I used, "U.S. peeps" 'cause I couldn't remember the word settlers.
Either way, I'm pretty sure the British colonists didn't enslave anyone. Drive them off? Yes. Purposely give them deadly illness? Yes. Steal the land they'd lived on for generations? Yes. Enslave them? Prolly not.
As I said, it was primarily the Spanish. They enslaved the central/south americans to grow new cash crops. Till they realized that they sucked as workers and had to import.
