From here.

Let's get the formalities out of the way first.

4ed killed him, failed his saving throw vs. Death, guess you can kill Elminister after all, gone to meet the Great DM In The Sky, Rosebud was his sled.

My tears, unending. My grief, overwhelming. My heart, broken.

It is a painful irony that he passed away on March 4th, GM's Day.

Goodbye Gary. Thank you for all that you gave.

What did he drop?
All kidding aside, it's sad that he's gone. He touched the lives of millions, and will be missed.

. . . did anyone remember to prepare a Wish? . . . no? Shit.

Probably a wallet with 1-4 copper and 1-3 silver. :p He was Treasure Type O. :snigger:

Sadly, no one wanted to take the 5 year hit.

Yeah. I remember me and my oldest brother scraping together the money for D&D material, which led to some great times. His work allowed us to have that joy. :blue:

I only got into RPGs with the first edition AD&D, but it still remains my favorite setting.

He gave a lot to us gamers.

First Robert Jordan, who kicked the bucket back in September.

Now Gary Gygax, who just yesterday shuffled off his mortal coil.

Seems that Death is starting to call in on big names in our community. Who's next, Miyamoto Shigeru?

I saw the news on ShackNews. It's a tragedy but apparently he'd had health issues for some time; so perhaps this is a merciful release.

Regardless, he will be missed.

Played 3.5edition. Never knew too much about him, but the OotS comic definitely covers my sentiments.

He may not have been a fan of third edition and onwards, but he still preservered and his spirit was still in the game. Even still holding D&d games up to this Janurary

May you enjoy, your harem up in gamer heaven good lord, you deserve it

For a short span of time when I was younger, D&D was my life. Played every weekend, ran adventures, quested, and bonded with my brother and friends.

It was only a year and a half when I was 10-12, but I STILL use 'MogTheGnome', my original gnome illusionist/thief, as my name most everywhere that I need a name.

So many inside jokes and nerdy references... Hell, I barely even remember the rules and how to play, but I remember what the heck I did.

Gary Gygax... Even if 3rd edition came out under your watchful gaze, I can forgive you, because at least 2nd edition was just that damn awesome.

You will be missed.

Heh, I think OotS's site has been broken.

Anyway, Gygax brought us D&D... but what sticks more in my mind is the Gygaxian dungeon.

D&D was my true introduction to fantasy in general, to elves and orcs, magic swords, and dungeons full of treasure. Because of him I took my first steps into creating something, into making characters and giving them a little bit of backstory. I found out what "charisma," "ki-rin," and "wu-jen" meant. And he influenced the creation of so many other good things in life I couldn't even list them.

Rest well in Elysium, Gary.

God damn, this bums me out.

Like many others, I had a moment of silence as I thought back to all the fun I've had gaming, and it's thanks to Gygax in a big way.
